  1. I thought it was only ever open for parts of the year. Might be closed for good now though?
  2. Dont you love paying tax on tax!
  3. Search for RAWS at this site: http://raws.dotars.gov.au/rawswebpublic/RA...AWPubSearch.asp There seems to be only one guy in QLD with plates according to that site and hes in Southport.
  4. You need an import license as well before the car lands in Australia. Importing a car without that bit of paperwork is against the law. It costs very little but is a key step. Depending on the cars age you also may not be able to import that model. Over 15 years old should be fine but 14 years and younger cars will need to be on the approved for import list under the SEVS scheme. See the DOTARS site for a list. Shipping costs roughly $65 USD per cubic meter. So about $650USD for a R32 plus insurance which can vary in cost.
  5. I agree. The regulation does not make sense with respect to vehicles with R134a in them. What is the point of degassing a car with R134a only to re-gas it again once it reaches australia? How does that benefit the environment? It seems to use twice as much gas for the same purpose... Obviously it's just a way for the government to tax us some more.
  6. The price is subjective right now as noone is really selling any so people just make up a price and run with it. For example, SWOOP recently sold his nicely modded GTR V-Spec for more than $100k. It had about 20k in mods though so it was probably worth in that vicinity at the time. On the other hand PowerPlay imports have a pretty stock 99 GTR (some minor mods worth about 3k max) with 36000 kms on the clock for $115k. This is overpriced but someone may pay it. On the import side of things you're looking at $80k and up for a good mid to low K's GTR or V-Spec. Or $72k and up for a standard GTR with maybe a few paint blemishes and medium to high KM. Occasionally you see some "bargains" for $65k - $72k but they either have high kilometers or some other problems. And accident damage - well no you cannot have any serious accident damaged or you will not be able to get the car complied at all. Under SEVS serious accident damaged cars must be re-exported or destroyed. I guess there is some small chance that the car you get will have been in a small ding and have panel repairs but thats just the same as buying any second hand car anywhere at any time throughout history. These prices factor in compliance etc.
  7. I've seen a lot of them and in all sorts of colours. Purple was nice.
  8. I actually called these guys yesterday. They are one of the only 3 shops in Sydney to be listed on RAWS database as being able to comply R34's right now. They seemed to be very knowledgable when I spoke to them. Anyway, the car you mentioned does seem to be a 40th Anniversary edition. Here's what FAST says about it: ECR134519 Model Code: GGKBRTFR33VZACAYDM Production date: Jan-98 Color: QM1 White Body: 2 door coupe Engine: RB25DET Model: GTS25t Type-M Transmission: 5 Speed Manual
  9. Well you can do it a few different ways. You can technically just go to Japan and buy a car and have it shipped. When it gets here you will need to clear it through customs and pay duty etc on it. This is probably the worst way to do it however as you probably wont get such a great deal on the car, and you will have difficulty getting the paperwork done and getting the car on the boat yourself. The other way is to use an import broker, they deal with finding the car for you while you stay home. They speak with buyers who attend the auctions and bid on behalf of their customers. They can also source a few cars from various wholesale yards they have dealings with. Probably the most talked about import brokers on this forum are Prestige Motorsport and J-Spec. I'm not endorsing them although many do. Another way to do it is to cut out the import broker and talk to the buyers in Japan yourself, some of them speak english and specifically deal with overseas customers all the time. You can save the import broker fee this way. The problem with this is that you dont reach as many buyers as you would if you used an import broker. You may take longer to find a car. Since you're such newbie at this i suggest you do a load more research on it, read the FAQ's and such on the J-Spec and Prestige websites. There is no hard answer on which way you should go when importing a car. It's kind of a personal decision where you weigh the risks and costs against the benefits of each method. http://www.prestigemotorsports.com.au/ http://www.j-spec.com.au/
  10. Good thread. Looks like we all have a fair idea of the rules now. Someone should post this to the FAQ or something.
  11. R134a was in cars well before 1996. My 93 Skyline had 134a.
  12. People I am talking to about importing a newer car under SEVS are saying that it's possible to privately import 1 car for private use without degassing.
  13. You would need the VIN number to do a REVS check anyway so what are you waiting for!
  14. You could probably option the "Series 1 wing" from the factory. There really is no such thing as a "Series 1" wing since both spoilers were options from the start.

    Wtb: R34 Gtr

Yeah that is either a standard GTR or V-Spec rebadged as a V-Spec II. Not exactly kosher.

The RAWS website begs to differ. There are 3 shops in Sydney with compliance plates for them.

That sounds awful how did they miss that during their inspection? Got any more info?
  18. It is generally a GTR only colour. It did however make an appearance on 40th Anniversary R33 GTS25t's released in late 97 and 98. edit: I thought you meant the midnight purple colour. I have no idea about the colour you mentioned.

    Bump still looking!
  20. A very popular japanese car accessory. You see them on every second car driving around. I guess they are parking aids but also you can get neon ones, LED ones etc for rice value.
  21. I've seen them in Japan. On an R33 GTS25 (non turbo). Gold side badges and gold rear badges. Seems to be one of those little factory dress up options that no-one really ever cared for.
  22. The answer is to buy now !!!
  23. ugh that's horrible, they should've left it dead.
  24. The absolute last thing you want to do is wax a car when it has impurities on the paint. You need to get the paint clean before waxing it. This means buffing the white residue off or polishing it off. Of course then you have to wait the proper amount of time for the paint to set as memphis says.
  25. Are you saying the R34 GTR gearbox wouldnt fit or it's weak?
