Another R32 Money Pit
Roy replied to SimonR32's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Yeh, so many S13/R32s etc all complain about not being able to get 180-200rwkws to the ground and these days I automatically assume its because they run "fully-sik" all sub frame bushes. -
How was traction...did you get around to changing anything
-
How in the hell did you warp a head though? The motor must have been cooked at one point or another. I had a session where a lower hose came off my radiator and the coolant temp sensor was reading air temp whilst the car was at speed around Calder. As soon as I backed off and started my cool down lap the coolant temps shot up over 110deg C at which point I had no option but to shut it down hot. Got to the pits , fixed the hose and started filling it with hot tap water and started engine to circulate. 20,000kms the engine is still ok....so it must take a bit to warp a head! Provided the base engine doesnt have issues you can push a 20 pretty hard on the dyno. We pull safe 275rwkws, cant get it to keep pulling higher numbers with more ignition when all the temps get up high like they would on the track
-
Mine lost a bit under 30rwkws when i plumbed back the gate

I bought these seats and have only just opened them up to look and trial fit them on the floor of my living room. I love these seats and a little gutted that for my frame size the shoulder harness opening is a little too low for me. So no good and need to look elsewhere for a different style of seat. Comes with brand new OMP alloy side mounts. Actual seat Mounts Seat info http://www.revolutionracegear.com.au/index.php?PCID=10409&PSO=245&PSID=4464006920&PSV=Primary&CDO= http://www.sparcousa.com/pseats_comp.asp?id=656 Two available, Asking $1200 each inc mounts.

End thread I am working on the fat and working on earning more money. Cant wait until i rock up in my ex FIA GT3 Ford GT Which is just a kit car I built in my garage running a 302 -
Webber simply isnt doing the job required of him this year. Its no crime, but it is disappointing for his fans and no less him But, you have to laugh, last year with the cold blown diffuser and last years tyres Webber was consistantly beating Vettel RBR-Renault sort the hot blown diffuser, car becomes easier to drive and Vettel catches pace on Webber. Then compounded by this years tyres and Webber is struggling to beat the Ferrari and McLaren, I am not sure there is that much in it. Webber is a good qualifier but cant turn on the tyres. Vettel is the master of it. Button, Webber, Alonso, even Hamilton cant match his ability to turn on the tyres and get a close to perfect lap. I think the McLaren and RBR are very even cars. You only have to look at their respective race paces and amount of GP wins to see that they have the equal car, especially with the 2011 spec gadgets and their straight line speed over the RBR...the cars work out even in a race. Ferrari is definitely slower then the Mac and RBR

I just want fibreglass. I am going to vinyl wrap the front end of the car so no point getting carbon

Just looked up nismo strut braces and couldnt see any master braces

Aussie Supersprint 2011 Eastern Creek

Cool, another SAU-Motorsport Fight thread. I will add, the smart thing to do is buy an already engineered car for a song and go quick. But when you develop and build something, which is hopefully quick you will always get folk viewing the efforts differently. I am pretty slow by the times people do these days but everyone always comments its way fast for an RB20. Point is its slow and I have spent a fair whack on the car. Perception is it should be slow. V8 Supercar, call it whatever you want in 2011 terms, but its an ex front running Supercar from a Championship winning team. Now back to the State of Origin flame wars. Anyone with more then a std OE Nissan 2L engine is a filthy cheat in my books -
Nice vid and great work getting out there and punting it. I will add, though and I am not trying to be overly critical as me... I am a 100% armco eater at the track...but do waaay more braking before downshifting! Your car control looks great, just work on the braking way harder and longer before down shifting. You will kill bottom ends like a CHAMPION if you forever engine brake and pin high revs on the downshifts. (my opinion only )

It is funny when you look at it that way. But a laptime is a laptime is a laptime. That in itself is where the credibility lays. Not the "Champion of the World" titles etc. Though who is going to knock a trophy even if it is from a thrown fight against out gunned cars I am with FATZ and his idea for a series. I hope it gets off the ground as I reckon I am going to rock up with that Joss Supercar and not leave the pits due to a shopping list of excuses. But I will have Alpinestar gear on and not only look ace but will talk up a storm too -
What turbo are you going to run and what power, boost and revs do you think you will have? If this is a temp engine, then I personally would just throw the std motor in, run a good oil cooler and filter. (pressures on my engine are all over the place depending on the oil filter I am running, Std Nissan seems to work well) and enjoy the thing. Run Castrol 10W60 Edge, make sure your volume is a tad over filled and just enjoy the car. Unless you have slicks and running amazing times the engine will be fine. All this money spent on your oil system, it would be cheaper to just buy another NEO IF the engine has a problem. In which case you woudl be able to sell the old head to the RB30 deviants, bottom end could be of use to somebody. Seems waaaay too much hard work and money when rwd RBs last perfectly fine if you just keep good quality oil up to them.

So out of JSAI, Bodyform , Viva Garage etc who is going to give me good quality and not take forever to deliver? PM your experiences if not comfortable posting up here. Fit and finish has to be decent as a starting point as I dont want to be paying panel beaters hourly rates to fix things up Did a search but not much around specific to lips for R32s

As per above. I have had to remove my Cusco brake stopper because it hit my Plazmaman plenum. I have seen strut braces that have master cylinder stoppers in them but have no idea of which brand. Any takers?
-
Ideally you are in Vic so I can pick it up. Do not need inlet or exhaust manifolds, rocker covers etc. If it comes with it then great...but just looking for a bare head that hasnt been warped/overheated or starved of oil to use for a new build
-
Nothing is worse than some new part failing on a car and then that pain being compounded by bills from mechanics. Sad to see that being a pioneer is proving so fraught with disappointment. On the flipside, I wouldn't like to be a distributor of a product that is causing problems for the people you have sold them to. Its not like you are buying from Ding-Wang Rajakrishnakan from a shanty house on the hill. Its Borg Warner for gods sake and as distributor I cant imagine you expected there to be these problems with the product. John: I just hope your car ends up in a state that means going forward it is ballistic and reliable. Wont make you forget this....but would not a bad asprin compared to going back to -10s etc
-
Scary thing is the testing at the moment is telling us that next years tyres and generall going to be softer and more fragile. There goes Webber having any chance. Lets go back to cold blown diffusers on last years tyres. The people in the know have commented the cars were pretty tricky to drive and Webber had the edge over Vettel in driving the tricky RBR. Come Hungary when RBR introduced the hot blown diffuser, sure Webber was mega quick and won the race...but he wasnt as quick as Vettel and it was the beginning of the change

I was at Phillip Island on the weekend and I hope my Cossie was in Sydney Must have been my doppelganger -
You mean he had to do an amazing job to put Heikki into the shade? Hell, I would smash Heikki Lewis had a great first year when his head was screwed on right. He didn't bin cars, make mistakes. His focus was F1 and trying to beat the current F1 yardstick that is Alonso These days his head isnt there which allows guys like Button to match him. He thinks he has proven himself and excuses explain why he isnt a multiple WDC by now. Button is by no means a hack. But he has managed the tyres this year better then Hackilton this year. Same problem that has affected Webber and Massa has affected Homo's ability to win races. Button had bugger all experience when he found his way into F1. He needed a few years more racing and winning championships and testing like most others had to do. The fact that he was dropped into the acid of F1 so young and inexperienced its no wonder it took him a few years to stop partying and chasing flange and trying to build on his natural ability. According to Button his head wasnt in the game until he drove for Honda and god some guidance from Richards.

Ahh, whats stupid about it? A std engine with 9.0:1 compression on PULP98 is going to fall victim the laws of physics if you lean on it too hard. A std 9.0:1 compression bottom end isnt going to like too many revs, too much boost or too much power in general. Mix all three together and you have to accept that the state you are running your engine in may result in a faiulure. Keep revs to below 7,800rpm, boost under 20psi and I suspect the thing will be pretty reliable even if its making 360rwks. Run 24psi and the risk simply increases

Well Mark who i used to see regularly around the traps at tracks in Vic is selling his R34, It was always a tidy and well presented car with quality mods....and I cant believe his asking price! http://my105.com/ListingDetails/tabid/65/p/2/k/nissan/id/4939/Default.aspx#

A Boy's Love For His Rb20

Wash your mouth out with soap I may have a GTR bumper and rear spoiler on my car but I would never defile an RB20 with lowly RB26 rocker covers. I am painting the engine bay over Xmas so will play with the rocker covers and breather system then. Should be a lot neater, and also got some things planned for the Plazmaman plenum before I ditch it. And finally someone was nice enough to take what I think is a cool pic of Lazarus :0 -

I am interested to try the 10cm housing again as with the 8cm housing it stops making power after 19psi. Iam curious to see if the 10cm and E85 make enough top end with more boost to live with the loss of power at 4,000-4,500rpm
