Aussie Delivered R32 Gtr's
Roy replied to BoyWhoCriedWolf's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
That's the exact reason I own this bucket ... And I hear what you are saying ...but regarding the originality side of things will people really ever care that much about Aus delivered R32s? They were no different in performance to Japanese ones, minimal spec difference with regards to a few brake lights and gearbox coolers etc. Most other cars that are collectible are because they were limited in build and different to other models. You mention HO, but same goes for VN Grp A, RS500s etc. The R32 will suffer a little like the E30 M3 as the homologation car was a mass produced car. IMO, but no doubt will always be worth more then JDM R32s due to their genuine Austrlian history -
I personally wouldnt be too fussed about when it hits 18psi. Plus there are so many variables. Make sure you have cam gears, no restriction in the exhaust and a good tuner. It will be more responsive then the TD06-20G but the big gain will be in the transient response. The 20G spools from around 3,500rpm and hits 18psi about 500-600rpm later. The 18G may only start spooling say 3,400rpm but because the lower inertia wheels spin quicker and harder you will be seeing 18psi perhaps only 300-400rpm later meaning it gets its boogy on earlier. If you have a std plenum and cams I expect quite often the car would be quicker then the 20G...now i dont know any of this for a fact but suspect it to be the case so I have been looking for a Trust TD05H-18G for about 18 months now

Top RB20 Club... do you have over 260rwkw?
Roy replied to RBsileighty's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I had no reason to worry about the condition of the turbo, but like I said...I was just stating that I had not personally ran it so couldnt swear by it being a good thing....but was confident it would be fine. LOL, with the greddy manifold, std inlet plenum yours will be more responsive then mine -
I have tried both the 10cm and 8cm housing on an RB20 and the 8cm housing is definitely the way to go. That said I suspect a TD05h-18G would be a better bet. A friend had a TD05-20G and it was pretty rubbish. The little TD05 exhaust wheel loses some of its response trying to spin the bigger 20G wheel. My 2c is decide if you can live with the lag and go TD06-20G or decide to sacrifice 20-30rwkws for more point and shoot and go a TD05-18G. I am constantly on the hunt for a TD05-18G as I suspect with 20psi up it will make for a quick car, often quicker then a car with a TD06-20G

To be clear I wasnt calling you a fanboi. Just those that argue until their blue in the face that one is better then the other....rather then just accept they are different. When the ZR1 first came out I was reading US forums and the ZR1 has some pretty ignorant fanbois...just like many of the GTR fans.
-
I have no idea what they cost. I think the ZR1 may be a little more expensive in the US, but then again I have read that the GTR is sold at a loss so...who knows the facts with fanbois all fighting for their corners. I agree that what makes all these cars interesting is that they achieve their speeds differently. And funny enough because of that you end up with different natured cars which will appeal to different owners You say imagine a GTR with 700hp. I say imagine a ZR1 with AWD and DSG! I hope car manufacturers dont all run down that same road getting carried away with numbers rather then what their car's owners have typically wanted. My pet hate was when I bought my R32 that Nissan had the DNA of the original GTR and the previous GTS-R model and instead of producing an alloy guarded, multi-throttled twin turbo RB23 that would have weighed 1250kgs, they created the BNR32 GTR. I love it for what it is but if all car manufacturers built knock offs of other cars it would be very boring What I would guess is that Chev spent very little developing the Z06 -> ZR1 compared to what Nissan would have spent developing the GTR. Chev spent a fair bit of money designing the fist LS1 from memory because they knew that they couldn't afford too many different engine lines so their truck engine had to be able to double as their performance engine. To me, that is what engineering is about. A tight budget, a broad functional requirement which challenges all facets of the project (ie engineering is always about compromise). Credit to Nissan too, but they had a blank sheet of paper so the GTR was never really going to be much of a compromise...evidences by the fact that they are relying on technology transfer and flow on to other models to help justify the loss they are taking on the actual car
-
That's not even true. The Olofsson/Crompton GTR was already on wets and not far behind the Shell Sierra. If the thing had gone on for another 2 minutes the Winfield team car would have most likely won
-
Ahh, that is funny. So having power is cheating, but having two pedals, two clutches, AWD, turbos and all the stability computers in the world is "engineering" and fair play. Personally all "sports/super cars" should be balls to the wall challenging cars to drive. Think GT2RS, R500 Caterham, ZR1, VIper ACR etc. Grand Tourers can have all the tech they want to make them mega safe and allow the wife to drive as fast as the husband And before people jump down my throat saying that a fast R35 is challenging to drive...sure. Any car is challenging to a degree to get speed out of. But I can tell you that last year when I was at Silverstone in a Caterham and there was an R35, I was working waaay harder to be that little bit quicker than him. I love cars so have all the respect for R35s because of what they can do. I can promise you I dont want one.

So thats the TD06 Kris? LOL, it makes more power then mine Got through another track day on the weekend. More 8,000rpm, 19psi goodness. Going to put the car in for a compression test this week and will see how it is all going. Need to spray the engine bay so will see if there is anything the lil 20 needs or whether its worth buying a $400 short motor and throwing something healthy in -
R34 GT-Four RB26 Time Attack Build
Roy replied to Luke_ENR34's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Really? Where can I read more about the details. Whilst my car is in one piece it may be time for a road trip -
Some more Winton laps. I think I am finally happy with the brakes so could well be time for some new tyres

A Boy's Love For His Rb20
Roy replied to Roy's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Sounds like a sorted package. I personally wouldnt bother with cams. I think std are fine. That said I do have some Tomei 256/8.5mm cams that may get a god in a few weeks when my car finally goes E85. Perhaps they will work, but I suspect I will lose power again.I will be sure to report back either way. And just got back from the SAU Nationals where the car ran pretty well all day. A few little gremlins that hurt early running but car drive home which is the main thing. I think its time for a compression test to see how the engine is holding up. -
Meh, who needs a rebuild when you have wrecker motors that are cheaper then the above cameras and will last 6 years and 60,000kms
-
You cant really believe that! Hamo, "I am Lewis "Victim" Hamilton...i only need to be near the back of the car in front and I should be gifted a position" I am not sure if Massa was a little later on the brakes or if Hamo knew he wasnt far enough up the side, he was on the dirty side, he had the wrong line...err basically he had ham fisted it and was trying to get out of there. Massa has to be the most hit guy in F1 this year. Between Hamoo and Webber in Monza...he is a magnet...it seems everyone thinks he is a soft touch, including Alonso
-
How in the hell did Hamo get aeay with that move. Massa got a shaftin he didnt deserve...crazy stewards
-
I think I am a payday or so away from getting one of those Replay XD1080.
-
As if they let Webber get that close to Vettel..."Hold position Mark"...Hacks!
-
I am not convinced. I used the waterproof housing and there was still loads of wind noise. I ended up caking the iside of the housing with headphone foam and only then did you get a reasonable (not good but bearable) result. These look at lot better with external mic and all. Do they sync via bluetooth so you can see the view of the camera without ripping out SD Cards?
-
I have shithouse timing as always. Grabbed a HD Hero about 6 weeks ago because I was in a pinch, works ok but desperately needs an external mic to counter the wind noise....and low and behold here it is FARK! Oh well. It will probably catch fire with the rest of my car this weekend anyway
-
I have often thought about a mid engined V8 Mazda MX-6 This, Twin Turbo Lotus V8, Plus, this They are a good looking car, and even havea reasonable V6 as standard which you could throw in the back with a few turbos I do have in mind the ultimate engine transplant for my lil R32, but I wont make a peep as its actually no more expensive then a rebuilt RB26 with some good fruit....and one day I may actually do it
-
Full space frame and AWD from a GTR. Should handle fine. Also, TVRs handle just fine, well the Griffiths, T350, Speed 6, Cerbera etc all do (late model stuff) Its just that hacks cant get their heads around driving 400hp rwd cars that weight 1000kgs ( i include myself in the Hack Dept )
-
I need this weeks Powerball to do it. But it can and has been done. Z-Cars in the UK took a Cerbera and put GTR running gear in it. I would do it to a Sagaris, with RB28 and some punchy little twins for 450awkws But in this body The other car I would kill to build up... Take one late model Exige and combine With And a few parts from the Lotus Motorsports parts bin to create

Ahh technology. His launches were shitty because he forgot to contact Mission Control and get co-ordinates for his lunar missioning landing thingy. Three pedals and a bit of art in launching the car is where its at. Mashing pedal GT5 style re-arranges organs for sure, but where is the romance ?

Looking forward to this weekend. I am so going to T-Bone your car through the flip flop. You better pray you are in a different group Boy!
