A Boy's Love For His Rb20
Roy replied to Roy's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
So at the moment car has almost got its new 6boost manifold installed, meaning its time to tinker with some more of the bolt ons I have sitting around. The Trust Ti exhaust I want to run may not get the nod. It seems my HKS Hyper exhaust is quieter and with the gate being plumbed back with the new setup I need the thing to be as quiet as possible so that I actually get some running on the track….AND NOT black flagged after only a handful of laps Having thrown a few brake setups at the old girl, I am hoping this will be my last brake setup that I run for a while Just need to machine up the mounts so that I can use the callipers with the new 343 x 32mm 32 vane rotors I have on order. Also waiting for Performance Friction to release the new compound of pad I am waiting to run. Also waiting in the wings is a set of 256/8.5mm Poncams. It’s a huge waste of money because the engine-turbo setup is already a pretty good setup. But I am hoping that the new 6boost manifold, E85 fuel, will give me a bump in response and allow me to trial the TD06-25G 8cm and TD06-20G 10cm and see which setup works best, and whether with the bigger hotsides I can get more benefit from some baby cams Yes it would be easier to throw a bigger RB in there….but still keen to see how much you can get out an RB20 setup. But with new Plazmaman plenum and new rockers covers, fuel rail etc, may as well trial the cams and see if we can stumble onto a 280-310rwkws RB20 setup -

Ok, so with he body work requiring attention, she sat around at a workshop for a while waiting for time, parts and the biggest factor me coming back to Australia and actually needing it back on the road. So with some to and fro over how much to pump guards, how to mod the R34 spoiler for the right rake...and all the other usual stuff that goes with re-spraying a car... So , after plenty of patience and hard work from the panel beater... -
Hey, the first pic is close, not sure about the second pic though. I saw this on the news this morning and thought "what a man, tells em to get faked, necks a beer and pops the emergency slide to get the fark out of an undesirable place" ... what a man

Whatever you do, when getting quotes please ensure you have had a read of the CAMS cage guidelines and you have sketched up what you want. A half cage is not a half cage and prices vary. If you want side intrusion bars then price goes up. If you want a harness bar then price goes up. If you dont do the removal of anything to assist installation then price goes up. If you want it tied into the b-pillar then price goes up. If you want powder coating price goes up You get the idea, even chosing Tig over Mig will result in a higher prive for not much gain.

Keep it mate. Things ebb and flow, and when things slow down having that car to enjoy or go for drives in would be pretty awesome. Its a low key thing that would pass 99% of inspections as the thing is pretty stock. You seem to be doing plenty of travel with work

Nice. I was staring at the F1 website the other night...thinking Singapoe = "NOPE". But Japan or Brazil would be cool. Same old same old though, will need to be a crime of opportunity with a work related window opening up. Italian GP could be a goer too...just under GBP400 LOL 2010 will be remembered as the year that promised sooo much and turned out to be a farking DUD! Fancy having the option of going to Hungary or come back to Aus to do track days and miss all of them because your leave was cancelled

So You Think Your Track Car Is Pretty Cool? Guess Again!
Roy replied to N1GTR's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Bike? No thanks...i still live in hope that one day i will be banging top quality broads on a boat somewhere in the world. That dream includes having both my legs, arms, all fingers and toes and a functioning Johnson...well at least one that functions as well as it currently does -

Yeh, Caterham Levante is way more likely to kill you so that alone makes it cooler...and cheaper -
Sounds like they may be a Biot kit? Got any pics? If so they are most likely the same 6 pot as the Typhoons, who knows about piston sizes though?!?!?
-
Any decent brake shop will be able to get them for you. Important that you know the caliper part number as there are sooo many 6 pot brembos kicking around. V-Sport, Competition Friction etc are all Brembo dealers and be able to help you out. Post up what they cost, anther reason why 6 pot calipes scare me as I am betting they will set you back around $400

Re said POS for 14k. If its still around at end of Sept then i could be interested. I try to reclaim my life next week. Will be interesting to see how I go....be fun to buy a GTR, and de0file it with GTST badge, V-Tec stickers and just gut it and put it into a wall. Kill it... like all GTRs deserve (not even RIP. Rest in a flaming inferno you gasgety POS) Except for that R33 of course. Giant shoudl put me on a payment plan

Upgrade Rb 20 Or Put Rb 25 Or 26 Into My R32 Gts-t?
Roy replied to 335's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
The gearing is different, just like cars all run different size rims and tyres with different rolling diameters that affects overall gearing. So i think looking at dyno sheets that look at road speed tell a better story of performance. There is no question the RB25s make a nicer road. Car, but frankly, if you are upgrading engines to make it a nicer road car, there are far better road cars then R32s. So i generally look at it as a performance upgrade, and based on my experience there isnt really that much to be gained from performance if you setup an RB20 properly. Re power delivery, its my experience that friends RB25s torch tyres far more then my RB20. Torque tears up tyres wth wheel spin when you punch it out of corners, hell 3rd gear in a straight line some of them. And i dont view my power as peaky, just the RB25 graphs as lazy in how they make their power (if it was a torque curve then i would agree) Mine jsut gets onto making power sooner and holds a good power band, in a slightly different manner,. I suppose this is very dependant on turbos If you are accelerating from 2,000rpm to redline and you are caught in the wrong gear you will be slower and left for dead. If you are punting along and having a go, the RB20 gives away very little. Especially in a drag race or at the track where you are rowing the cars along, with a 3,500rpm power band making the same average power as other cars who have a 3,500rpm power band. then there is not much in it....and other variables such as tyres, driver, suspension are all a bigger variable then engine -

Roy replied to 335's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Cant agree. Why do you care about the rpm? Where you make power relative to road speed is what is important. When i am changing gears accelerating my power is going from 180km/h to 120km/h. In that rev range i make more average power then the other setups. You apply the same 60km/hr band to the other setups and they have less average power. -
DECA NEXT WEEKEND is too far away. Sat night brother. Will sms you from the airport tomoz I would be real curious to see someone buy a basic used R33 GTR, already with the usual stuff for 22k. Spend 5k on stripping it, race seat, and good pads and seat and harness, tyres. I suspect with steel wheel turbo and 280awkws it would be an entertaining, quick and reliable thing without breaking the bank.

Upgrade Rb 20 Or Put Rb 25 Or 26 Into My R32 Gts-t?
Roy replied to 335's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
LOL , i love these threads. The RB30 crew scream RB30, the RB25 crew scream RB25, and the broke ass bastards scream RB20. The above comparison explains all you need to know. Bass Junky is a NEO R34 GTT with GCG Hi Flow, Tomei cams and Power Fc. Abo Bob is a built Neo with pistons and GTR rods and Tomei cams running a GCG turbo. My car is a completely std RB20 with cam gears. No cams, nothing. It runs a TDO6. All cars have fmic, fuel pumps, injectors and Power FC. All are running about 18psi. So as a rule i dotn agree with the bang for buck argument. There are always exceptions, but as a rule RB20 with a turbo upgrade can live with a lot of cars and even those with bigger RBs as the lil 20 uses its power better then the wheelspinning torqe tractors. Choose which ever power delivery you can live with or like. Me, i will keep my 3-5k in my pocket if all i am going to do is gain a few kws under 4,000rpm. Who gives a shit, and when you are having a go when is your car ever under 5,500rpm? My RB20 does not lose out at Phillip Island, Sandown or Calder to any RB25 or SR20 with the same power or, even ones with 40-60rwkws more. They seem to spin wheels with all this torque that everyone goes chasing while i just plant my foot, get traction and drive off. Toffy is on the money, the extra revs you need to get an RB20 on song means you jsut have to use the extra revs available to you up top. You get about the same power band. You can really ring the neck of the RB20, when i need to on tight circuits motorkhanas i use 8,500-8,800rpm. Power does drop off, but means i drop the engine really into the meat of the power curve in 3rd year for those quick blasts in 3rd between sections. Must work if you can beat EVO 8 MRs and R34 GTTs on motorkahanas. The pewter R34 is the one in the above graph. It was mostlya bit of fun...but you can see that where is the "value" in throwing an RB25 into an R32, even if the RB25 has a sub 300rwkws turbo upgrade? So thats my best attempt at a balanced argument based on facts and experience... and actually while i am at it. Here is Russman in his HKS 2530 powered RB20 GTSt at Winton ... And here he is being chased by an R33 GTR with R34 engine and N1 turbos making 280awkws .. -
Looking forward to it soon changing. LOL, i have done the Ring, Spa and attended a few GPs. SO whilst abroad, I am trying to get as much motorsport whislt not piloting my car. Re sports sedans, they are on bigger slicks, 200kgs lighter again then Adams GTSt and use custom suspension points/layout on space frame chassis. So, if on semis you can get within 4 seconds of those times i say you are a freak. He is 6 seconds off the top Sports Sedan times....so still a freak and from what i know is as quick, if not quicker then any Vic GTR. The only times i know of being quicker in a GTR are JFK and Markov on slicks in their GTRs

Replace Current Car With...
Roy replied to No Crust Racing's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
No seriously! There are two guys in WA that have run that sort of boost on their std RB20s. When i get the 25G with bigger 10cm housing on my thing i am going to give it a do-or-die run at as much boost as it will use to see how it goes. I have all the stuff for a rebuild, but i suspect it will live provided with can keep the E85 up to it -

Shoudl go to WA, seems stock RB20s are good for 1.8-2.0bar over there! -

I will be there pouring oil under GTRs as usual. The look on their faces when they see oil under their cars, then the usual..."Not again!" Ahh classic! -

How much you selling it for? LOL, you need to accept now that the new owner will buy it as a drift car and it will be quicker then whatever ass tickling , electro gadget device with bonus fish finder you end up buying in an attempt to find yourself around a track. Hell, why not just option yourself up a AYC EMO and get that free lobotomy that owners are offered.
