G4 / D2 8 Piston Brakes - The Diffinitive Review
Roy replied to Blipman's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Thats partly it. The other is a longer pad means more surface area of pad which helps with lower pad temperatures meaning less need for craxy high temp pads. Also the fact that the narrower pad means for a given rotor diam you have a shallower pad which allows you to run a narrower steel rotor with larger alloy hat reducing unspring weight. Also the larger pads means you have less localised heating of the rotor which at high temps can help with the onset of rotor warping. Then you have the more even pad wear...there are a whole bunch of reasons. If i wasnt drunk i could think up some more -
That is another thing Duncan. The mid week open days that i used to go to were dusty, dirty as hell. Unless the track has has some cars sweep the track on a Saturday with Prac/Quali then i think the track woudl be slower in the morning. God knows poor old dust bowl Goulbourn would have lots of garbage on the track mid week in a morning session?!?!?!?!

LOL, oh i am a dreamer

Yeh, yeh, yeh. But we are talking about me the hack who is lucky to get 16 laps of a race track every 3 months. Its all good in theory, but odds are most ppl will go quicker later in the day. We are not all race machanics/engineers who can have the car all set up to go. Obviuously those in the know or with workshop backing hold a large advantage. Hell at Wakefield i could never be bothered to take spare fuel or go back into town so i always filled tha car up and just drove the place. Never attended a sprint round there so didnt really care too mcuh about lap times. But these days i have the spare 20L drums of fuel and only run with 20L in the tank. I welcome anyone who wants to set up my car, hire the trak for the day before to get he car and driver dialled in. A big bouncer to keep me away from the pub the night before and then pay for a second set of tyres for the sprint the next day Even things like heat cycling tyres. At track days i often waste morning sessions just cycling the tyres as i am after the best were possible from them and i cant really do it on teh streets, not around the city where i live
-
I find the same thing. I always go quicker in the afternoon. Partly the fact that i have burnt 30-40L of fuel and mostly the fact i have done a few laps and got my eye in. I wish i got enough track time that i can go out to a track day and punch out the best 4 laps on the day in the morning session

R32 Gtst And R32 Gtr Wheels
Roy replied to agentx's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
We need to swap jobs for a while. LOL so i can get some office time and gawk at beauties in suits and you can work in a dirty engineering field Forged is typicall from a machined billet which is then pressed whilst at an elevated temperature to the required shape. Typically more machining follows. So not really similar to casting. Though there are several forms of casting with some better then others. -
Well if he needs to spend some time with you then i am happy to put the red car into the wall on the back straight

Cool, you are most likely right. LOL, but this is motorsport so i woudl be calling it an Elise as well, just to lower expectations Like they say, speak to a driver of a 300kw track car and he will tell you it only has 250kws. Speak to the driver of a 300kw street car and he will tell you it makes 350kws

VL turbo brakes are decent enough for a car of its weight. But yes the VL chassis / suspension isnt briliant. But there is plenty of aftermarket parts that will sort that out. Also, comparing a VL to an R32 is a bit rough, its more equitable to an R31. Then again the bulk of the car is dated back to the VB, so other then some small tweaks you woudl have to say the suspension wasnt all that bad, no doubt it aged quickly towards the lates 80s. There is a VL running around doing track days in Vic with a few guys running VBs and VHs. Considering they only have about 300hp at the engine they are doing damn good times. Point is they are not that bad you can categorically write them off

Dont follow Duncan The GT3 Exige went up against the Challenge 360, GT3RS etc, the factory hi-po cars. Just like the little GT3 Exige in the linked EC results. I saw the Peter Lucas car at the GT Round at Albert Park earlier this year. Unless he has two or converted engines (doubt it, these things are pretty rare to start with and i think an engine change will mean it is no longer eligible for GT Championship) i am pretty sure its an ex European GT3 Exige. Last time i looked at the Production Sports cars there was a handful of drivers and cars that were also doing the Australian GT Championship.

Track Rim/tyre Combo On 32 Gts-t
Roy replied to falcon's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
What is your ride height likel. I previously fitted 17x9.5 + 36 rears and 17x8.5 +30 on the front. I ran 235/40/17s on the front and 245/45/17s RE55s on the rear. 17X9 and 17x8s are an easier fit for clearance sake, only you have to go down to 235s all round, the 235 are a good fit on the rear but bnot that great on the 8" wheels, really need to go to 215/45/17 -
I heard an F40 at Calder. It did sound great even though it was being driven gently.

Its a crock of shit. Are they going to say the same thing about bull bar manufacturers who actually drill through structual componenets to attach the bull bar. What about stretch vehicles, limos etc. They modify and strengthen chassis rails in these cars, are they illegal? Bullshit they are engineered and registered. I can understan things like ppl installing aftermarket HIDs etc in their earlier model cars beign illegal. But most of what being discussed here is a joke. Personally, if i ever get caught with this sort of stuff, i will be requesting a list of the ADRs that my vehicle contravenes and will be personally reviewing the language to ensure that i am not beign dicked. This all came up when a friend in an R33 was being dicked for the same thing. I went through the ADRs at the time and couldnt see anything detailed enough that they can defect you for it. Now the whole EPA thing i have no problem with, its fair and obvious. But this whole mod thing?!??!?!?!

Rather then something that has been bolted together in a backyard i would suggest they are a race derivative of the Exige from one of the European GT3 series. Here are some specs of one i have saved in my favourites - Toyota 1.8 2ZZZ Charge-cooled and supercharged 320bhp - Dry sump - Hewland PCT 6 Speed Sequential Transmission (flat shift) - Limited Slip Differential - Switchable Traction Control - 2007 Wide-body - Quick Release Carbon Fibre Front and Rear Clams and Rear Wing - Air Jack System - Digital Dash - 6-point FIA Approved Roll Cage - Removeable Steering Wheel - FIA and HANS Approved Recaro Seat and Race Harness - Ohlins 4-Way TTX Dampers - Aluminium Uprights - AP Twin Master Cylinder System with Dial Bias Adjuster - 6-Pot AP Front Brake Callipers - Centre Nut Hubs - Lotus Sport 5 Spoke Alloy Wheels (10 Inch Rear Wheels) If i have guessed right then there shouldnt be any real surprise that the thing is as quick as it is
-
LOL, they can take my phone, but not my internet connection and lunch break
-
People that are sayign chassis is dogs balls, are you forgetting that a VL won Bathurst in 1990 beating the R32 GTR, and in 87 beat the R31 GTS-R at Bathurst. (and the years between they did ok) So if they are so bad then something must be wrong with Nissans as well

I am seriously going to speak to a friend that is both Vic Roads and CAMS and knows all about car importation, registration, compliance etc etc. I want to know what it takes to become a Vic Roads engineer as i want to get licenced. This is a farking joke. I know in NSW you have to have relevant industry experience, and i recall that you dont vene have to be a formally qualified engineer. Does anyone know if this is still the case? So any car that has an airbag needs to be crash tested and repaired, then crash tested again, then repaired then crash tested again....hang on, when can i stop testing the repair or deviation from factory????? Tell me how many modern cars with front air bags, curtain air bags etc etc get repaired on a daily basis in Victoria, oftern which require putting on a jig and stretching, often requiring factory spot welds or glue to be removed so new panels can go on get repaired every day and just drive out the door on the say so of the panel beater!!!! This whole engineering thing has its place and is a good thing. But if it is allowed to turn into a sham which is what i am reading here then soon stupidity and profiteering will replace integrity and safety!!!
-
I dont doubt thats what was said to you, and this is not an attack on you, just a general rant! How the fark wont they apply some common sense and approve a modded inner guard skin, or a repaired skin? How is it any different then a car that has had a minor hit in the front that needs a new inner guard. Or a hit up the ass that needs a new beaver panel. Its farking laughable that they wont approve a vehicle. It shits me that more and more it seems that stupid muppets seem to be holding positions of influence over the rest of us. Not just specifically related to cars, but in all facets of life Personally Ash, if this is the engineer that is working on your car then i would suggest speaking to someone else. He seems to be encouraging the legislation as it gives him power, influence over car enthusiasts which seems to make his business more profitable. There is a fair chance he is abusing the trust you have placed in him and is taking you for a ride! Its a sad day when an engineer doesnt challenge stupidity and isnt willing to sign off on something that panel beaters do as a matter of routine!

There is another problem. Only one set of suspension between two cars
-
Awesome! IS the specs of the 1:34 and 1:37 cars the same? Im guessing that the 1:34 is the ex-European GT3 Exige or similar etc?
