$100k or $150k omn a car is not a massive amount, maybe 2x or 3x the average family car. Personally, based on your opinions above, i don't think you get what the R35 is about.
-
i nearly choked after that Stu! funny.
-
so.. is there going to be a protest to the type 6 credentials? i mean, not by the obvious people posing the questions, but by the faceless paddock people for which the said people are apparent reps? wish i had a time machine, we could go back a few years and tell the time attack people they have a totally illegit. sport. sort of going quiet on that front for some reason.

VDC off

err, wasn't SL run under CAMS these last couple of years.. pretty big event too happy they didn't wait for a CAMS stamp, whatever that is
-
R35's don't come with a jack, but the locknut may be located in the hidden area undert the passenger side footwell (as above) front passenger side, look under carpet. I hope the lucknut is there, otherwise, bit of a pain.

too good to be true bugger
-
Wow, this is great if true! never thought i would see it..

$90k is probably on the low side but good luck, it's a very small market. Either way, you're going to drop $1.5k a month on depreciation yourself for a while, too. Which will make the $10k you save (vs the current price) look like play money.
-
Excactly. Production is limited alright. Limited to how many they can SELL.
-
Sorry to see you stacked it Snowy. Rally gives me the heeby jeeby's - don't think i will ever do it. Lucky you just missed that big tree. I hope you're ok.

I think we've answered your query (in this thread). They "get kicked out" (of drag racing).. and guess where they go. Across the road, and run 250km/hr down the main straight, 180km/hr through T1, grinning from ear to ear. Subsequently, they're hooked. 30 track days later they have spent hundreds of hours in the sport, tens of thousands of dollars in mods, and now want a cage to continue on with a sport they have fallen in love with. I guess it's complicated, but IMO this sort of change has to come from the top down, not the bottom up.

I wish i could be optimistic but i don't see this being addressed to everyones satisfaction anytime within the next decade. Reality has shown that cars are faster and safer vs what they once were (obviously) however the rules still have to cater for the lowest common denominator / worst case scenario too. Coupled with certain attitudes running the show i think it's a practically impossible situation. Unfortunately i think you're pushing shit uphill Kenny. That's just my $0.02

A while ago i looked into running the R35 at the dry lake runs in S.A. If you think the ADRA rules are antiquated you should look at trying to run at one of those events. It's esentially impossible with a street car. They cannot comprehend (nor want) a sedate rice burner in their 200mph club. Such sports/organisations are run by guys holding on to the past with a tight grip. I hate to say it but unless people make the effort to get involved at the organisational level, it's not changing anytime soon. Better off planning a trip to Heathcote and/or the Temora 1000m dash.
-
wow that looks really weird. i've used a lot of michelin slicks and never seen that. are you 100% sure there was no rubbing?
-
p.s. let's organise a road trip to Heathcote!
-
Hi Kenny, Duncan here. I used to help run v8owners and organised quite a few WSID days in the past (do you still have the 911T?) I have an R35 now and have run 10.7@132mph in my bolt-on + tune Nissan You can run it more than once in the same meeting... sometimes. Have you got an R35 now?
-
Another factor is, how are you going to know it has been tracked if the owner doesn't tell you? And quite often a tracked car comes with tens of thousands $$ of mods.

Where Do You Guys Get Slicks From ?
LSX-438 replied to The Bogan's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Could you go to an 18"? You may be able to get porsche fronts (240's) 2nd hand. I've purchased dozens of used slicks (and heaps of new ones too) the 2nd hand ones are a bit of a lucky dip - heaps of tread usually it's just the heat cycles that kills them. SO it's difficult to judge just be looking at the tyre.. Race teams dispose of them simply because they aren't competitive.. but still great for the amateur having fun. The going rate is about $25 to $50 each. The easiest way is to find out which category is using an appropriate size, go to the event and walk through the pits offering to buy them. Or what about some hoosier A6 or R6 AS A "cheap" option (not slicks but close) some of the north american GTR guys have tried them: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Hoosier&tireModel=A6&sidewall=Blackwall&partnum=44ZR7A6&tab=Sizes http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Hoosier&tireModel=R6&sidewall=Blackwall&partnum=44ZR7R6&tab=Sizes -
I've had my R35 for about 3 years and done 40+ track days. 1. Running costs: a set of tyres will cost from $2000~$3200 and will last from 1 to 4 track days. It depends on what tyres you want (OEM, R's, Slicks) and what sort of events you do. You'll need to upgrade rotors and pads for track, and replace them every 5 to 10 track days depending on pads and rotor selected. The pads will cost about $800~$1000 a set and rotors about $800ea. However the rear pads/rotors will last 3x longer than fronts or longer. When tracking regularly i replace diff, trans and engine fluids every 5000km. Budget about $500 to $1000 for that depending on fluids selected. 2. Cops have never come near me, and i daily drive it in Sydney (have for 3 years) 3. I purchased the car for $167k drive away and i hazard a guess it's worth $100~$110k now (PM me if you want to buy!) 4. Once you start doing sprints you will meet heaps of people 5. By far the biggest cost for me was upgrading bits and bobs.. active wing, e85 setup, new coilovers, exhausts, etc. The car is a fantasic track weapon, given you can drive it to the track and run faster tha most race cars. However, it's a pretty boring road car (you just can't use it on the street, to anything near its potential, and to be frank once you experience balls out R35 on the track, you'll never think you can have fun on the street again anyway). The C63 is a much more entertaining street car fwiw, but would be smashed by the R35 on the track. Hope this helps

Pics Of Your Car At Or On The Track
LSX-438 replied to hamiltonau's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
^ great pic that first one! -
That's a pretty good summary. The reason i purchased the r35 was merely due to lap time capability (in a truely road rego'd car). There are so many other cars what are much more fun on the street, some for seriously less money.
-
Well if we work out how much $600k in 1992 would be worth today (i would say probably $1.2 to $2m in todays dollars) whatever Miles has spent doesn't touch the sides in comparison. Tobacco sponsorship was good!
-
Comparing the Gibson R32's to Miles car? I believe they spent something like $600k on each car (20 years ago)... Seriously it's a silly comparison.

Govt. doesn't actually care about speed off the street Stu.. only votes. Unfortuately motorsport (whilst a huge sport across the community wide, as a spectator sport) doesn't suck in massive political advantage. I only wish we could get the amount of land that GOLF courses have. Think about the average 50yr old impotent kock running about on sunday morning, smacking a rubber golf ball... vs 180km/hr at T1 at EC. Sad, really. I have SIX major suburb-sized golf courses within five minutes ftive of my place. Give me the shits.
