Err, what is the peprformance car cup?
-
wow, nice work! what tyres are you running?
-
when i was you age (and had a few highpo v8's) i found i had to seriously shop around for fully comp insurance. for example NRMA wanted $4k and QBE wanted say $2km or $1.5k, for the same cover. All i can suggest is seriously shop around, all it costs you is a bit of time.
-
The $25k i quoted was for OEM non-spec-v turbos
-
They wouldn't. But going through the warranty process you learn these things (the dealer tells you what Nissan charges). Btw, you have to buy two turbos at a time from nissan (a pair) which costs $50k+ Insane.

I agree. But there are other issues at stake. Which is why we have discussion forums. If people want to simply ignore what suits them, whatever i guess. Hell it will only bite you on the arse if you happen to a) enter sprints and b) be quicker than the compliantant (which i suppose is ONLY likely to affect a very small amount of people in the coming years, which is lucky and convenient for most). Otherwise, ignorance is bliss. -
i would steer clear of third party warranty companies. I've heard some bad stories. With the R35 OEM engine+tranny costing $100k from Nissan, i reckon they would be doing their best NOT to pay if anything goes awry. Funny thing, a friend got a quote for two replacement OEM R35 turbos a few months back, the cost was about $25AUk EACH. Of course, you would never pay it, which perhaps is their desired outcome. Honestly i would just find a car, find a good mechanic (someone who has actually pulled r35's apart, which may be difficult) and have them check it over. As for your $90k price (in 12 months) i think it's about right. Should be doable.

Stuart, we've both helped each other out in the past BUT there is a bigger issue. Unfortunately you can't have it both ways: a) Appear to be the nicest bloke in the world, someone who would practically help anyone. However, b) If someone runs faster than you at the track, begin lodging protests and ambiguous objections, numerous rants to CAMS organisers (about specific people, their cars and various rules) THEN, c) Deny it was you when asked and/or say it was other people. Eventually you'll get found out. Which has happened. Several times now. As long as noobody is running faster than you, everything is fine. Otherwise we've got to play these silly games which is stupid, wastes everyones time and IMO ruins the sport. Perhaps this is the way it's done at all levels of motorsport (even sprints) i dunno. If so, then perhaps i had been doing it all wrong. -

I couldn't agree more. -
> People who buy the Nissan do so because they want our car and can't afford it There is definitely an element of truth there. But it does demonstrate typical Porsche arrogance. Unfortunately a 911 in this country (which competes at the same level in terms of lap time with the GTR) is going to cost somewhere between $300k to $500k. If i was insanely loaded i MIGHT buy one.. As it stands i was stretching just to buy the GTR. I HAD to have the GTR because a) It smashed the 911T at the time, a $400k car in AU, and b) i could stretch to buy it.. just. I would never spend $150~$200k on a DD. Anyway I wonder how many 911T buyers would stretch to a Veyron is they "only" cost $600k? I bet a few. So are 911 owners only buying 911's because they want a Veyron? Silly argument really, bit of a smoke screen to cover inadequacies whilst putting down people in a market that may one day buy their product. Dumb.

actually on 2nd look the hose the guy is holding plugs into the blue connector, but obviously he's attached something to drain fuel away. Anyway, disconnect the hose connected to the blue/green clip, and should be good.
-
Dom, it's the hose that connects to the BLUE connector in the pic (not the one the guy is holding) You pinch the blue connector with your fingers and pull the hose up to disconnect (no special tools required) then the hose that comes off is where the fuel will come out. So either connect a hose to that (just buy some 15/20mm hose from hardware) and drain into jerry can. Just watch it when you pinch off the hose as a little fuel will splash out. Also, be careful to make sure the blue clip doesn't come off the lower hose (it just sits there.. can easily come off and fall into engine bay).

Jesus Christ, if i had travelled interstate and the published regs where changed (materially) at the last second murder would be done! Vote or no, that's just disgusting. But unfortunately i am not surprised. This sort of stuff is really destroying the sport. -

What actually happened? -
Fantastic.

The mods for that power are exhaust, Willall e85 tune, upgraded injectors and fuel pumps. Boost is up to about 16lbs i think.

Depreciation is not really much of an issue? perhaps you can tell me where the -$60k (that my car has depreciated in three year) has gone exactly? depreciation is the biggest factor if you're concerned about true/total cost of ownership.

yes we were running 1:38's - but we've done a lot more laps at wakefield. by rights we should probably be running 36's at EC or theeabouts, with new rubber. just need bigger balls for T1. We would be running about 385awkw in E85 tune for these times. Not bad, i drive to car to work every day, flick a switch for the e85 map, put some tyres on, and smash a 60.x at WP. I just don't think any other road going car (in this sort of easygoing trim/comfort) could match it.

Yep that was me last round of the NSW sprints last year, there was just 1/10th separating Marek and I (in championship points) leading into last session of the day, last round, with only a single point in the championship. I managed to pull a rabbit out of my ar$e and grab another 0.5s out of our times for a 60.8s lap (60.7s on the GPS) to win the championship outright, type and class. i still don't know how i managed that really!

Eastern Creek "new" Layout Lap

whomever is driving that car in the video is just a c*nt. period. I reckon they are on e's or some shit, nobody is that stupid/bad/reckless without being under some influence. -
Leaps and bounds? Doubt it. AFAIK the differences 2008 to present are minor in terms of hardware. Some intake, ECU and suspension geometry etc. In terms of outright/straightline performance i am sure a tuned 2009 is as quick as a new one today. The only big factor in terms of 0-100 performance is probably software on the launch (which version you have) however you can get that sorted if you care. If you are comparing say 2009/2010 vs 2012 model (re the saving) i would say it depends on what you want to do with the car? Personally being interested in having a quick road-going track-capable car i would acquire the older car and spend the savings on mods. I dare say a new car with $50k on mods vs an older car with $50k on mods would yield the exact same outcome (except your wallet). Plus I would feel less 'bad' about trashing an older vs newer car, if you know what i mean.
-
It's great to see Nissan pushing forward with the performance / number but seriously this is really just what owners have been getting for about 3 years, with a exhaust and tune (thanks to tuners who cracked it).
-
I would contribute these points: If you have no tracks near where you live and/or you have no intention of tracking the car, why would you buy this car? If you can afford the buy price, insurance shouldnt be a worry. Ditto tyres and fluids, however don't even think about using Nissan for consumables nor servicing. You will pay AT LEAST 2x the price and get relatively inferior product for your efforts. Servicing is nothing too difficult or spectacular, there is no great magic really. As far as your depreciation comment goes, all cars with this sort of value will lose $1k to $2k a month in value. That's right - the car will depreciate between $10k ~ $20k per year, for the next few years - which is probably going to be your biggest cost/loss right there. And if you're financing, add up the finance costs, together with the depreciation + rego/insurance, then suddenly servicing is actually the least of the ownership cost. If you want a fun road car for shits and giggles, get the LS1 camaro. Chances are it will probably retain most of its value (if that's your primary concern). But most important, and having said all this negativity BS, buy what makes you happy. You only live once
