  1. Did you order Nissan deflectors or the ones from Unique Autosports? It shouldn't be too hard to bash something together with aluminium plate & strap it onto the castor rod/LCA? I cannot for the life of me remember if these ones are stock or aftermarket. The appear to have a couple of holes to use where the castor rod meets the LCA.
  2. Don't work under a car held up by just a jack. They can & do collapse. Get some stands aswell. They don't cost much. Whether or not you need spring compressors depends on what type of suspension you have & what you need to re-use.
  3. Surely the interests of good taste would dictate that it not be done?
  4. No one is suggesting that suspension does not have a contribution to make to grip level - wet & dry. What is being said is that the grip level afforded by a good quality tyre (one with silicon as one of its constituent chemicals to help increase grip in the wet) is of greater influence than the suspension setup. In fact the less grip there is available the less influence the suspension setup has relative to the tyre. In any case the tyre needs to begin to accelerate the car before you can get any weight transference. Which means its grip level (static friction coefficient if you like) is of more importance than spring rate. If you look at a drag tyre you will see how much give there is in the sidewalls - it is there to allow the weight transference to begin. Oh and my high end coil over are built to be as stiff as I specified. A hard spring rate sounds good but doesn't necessarilly work better. Usually it is considerably worse.
  5. A sway bar is simply a torsional spring. The larger the radius of the bar the stiffer it is. It is actually a fourth order relationship. Hence the steel at the centre of the Whiteline bar does next to no work but just adds weight. This is why you use tube instead of rod for torsional anything (Springs, structures whatever). I bought my Cusco bits from Greenline. Try them.

The one use stuff is usually anything with a lock not on it - the nuts are the one use item, not so much the bolts.
  7. It is not your suspension, it is your tyres. Cheap shit tyres have stuff all grip in wet/greasy conditions. That is why you spend money on good tyres as opposed to spending money on panel beating.
  8. If you haven't bought LCA's then have a think about the Nismo LCA plus upper link bracket plus castor rod kit. Bin the castor rod but the other two bits are worth having. As ever with Nismo they are standard Nissan bits just with the holes drilled in different locations. The LCA gives about +5mm per side and the upper bracket moves the locating bolt holes to twist the upper arm & hence reduce the tendency to bind with more castor added. Just understand that you need to remove the ABS etc to get at the damn things. As for Cusco sway bars - big tick. The rear is slightly stifer than the Whiteline gear (20%?) & the front is alot stiffer. I haven't found any adjustable Cusco ones for the R32 but there are a few references to them & they may exist. You may not need both ends adjustable anyway. I set my front Whiteline to soft & the rear to hard. Never moved either of them off those settings. Replaced the rear with a Cusco & felt happy about the near on 4kg savings.....
  9. It chirps second, so will do an easy 130mph.
  10. New issue out today. 2xGT-R (Gibson R32 & an R35) with some bloke called Mark Skaife on the cover. Write up of the R35 V-spec. Free DVD about the creation of the R35. So go buy one.
  11. The length of the upper arms will constrain the amount of neg camber you can get. Stock length is 182mm, the Whiteline kit is approx =/- 6mm. Usually this gives two and a little bit degrees of neg camber. If you want much more (ie three to four degrees) you need to think of numbers in the 160 - 170mm range for upper arm length but it also depends markedly on your ride height, your upper mounting brackets, lower control arms & castor settings. Also remember that the more castor you wind in the less camber you end up with. Usually I just set the castor so the wheel is centred in the arch. Any chance of a photo of the spring/shock units themselves?
  12. Trefolex Trefolex is an active cutting compound. Description: Trefolex is a green coloured, active cutting compound containing a colloid. It melts slowly as frictional heat is generated. It maintains efficient lubrication throughout operations such as pipe screwing, hack sawing, tapping, reaming, etc. It is suitable for all users of hand tools. Trefolex prolongs the life of the tool. It will not corrode steel nor affect aluminium. Although the surface of copper and brass is darkened, the metal suffers no detrimental effect. It is ideal for use with stainless steel.
  13. Look the chances of it there being something fundamentally wrong with the system are remote. If it was a seized caliper the car would pull hard to the left or the right. A seized master cylinder would not allow the pistons to return from the depressed position - hence the brakes would be on more often than not. It won't be fluid. The chances are some nugget has fitted a well hard set of brake pads. My first R had something similar. It would take what seemed like month of Sundays to stop. This fix was as difficult as getting some new pads & replacing the (wornout) rotors. Obviously new fluid would be done at the same time.
  14. So if GM are going to kill off SAAB, what are all the architects going to drive?
  15. In all honesty what hope have they got when, for example, a certain multiple championship winning Ferrari driver (hint it was Michael Schumacher) in all seriousness once asked whether him & Irvine locking out the front row of the grid was the first time it ever happened for Ferrari? It always used to sh1t me to hear Murray Walker banging on about how everyone in the race did such a wonderful job. But the longer I follow the sport the more I realise he had a point. Anyway Ferrari aren't going anywhere. Nor, as far as I know, are anyone else. Maybe a bit like the revolution is just a t-shirt away, P1 is about an hour away?
  16. Good call lets turn the F1 thread into a group buy for IPL gear. On the other subject (not that anyone cares any more now that T20 is here) Ferraris history in F1 is no more compelling than, say, Lotus' history, or Porsche in endurance racing or even Subaru in rallying. The sport is larger than any one team. Hell I remember a time when HRT didn't even bother doing a complete season of SATCC - ahhh, happy days. Equally there was a time when Ferrari habitually missed F1 races. Tifosi: Italian for bogan. So is it Collingwood, Man U, Ferrari, HRT then? Look, like any group of people there are the good, bad & the ugly. The hard core & the casual. I just don't agree with the implication that because there are a disproportionate number of casual Ferrari fans that the team should be regarded as anything special. Yes it has a long history & that should be respected. But remember much of that history was ugly - marked by dodgy dealings & death. Not unlike that of, say, Lotus.
  17. With all due respect that is a pile of rubbish. Formula One over the years has lost many names just as "important" as Ferrari and McLaren are supposed to be now. Like Alfa Romeo, Mercedes Benz, Lotus, Brabham, Tyrrell, Renault (at various times), Honda (a few times now), Porsche to name but a few. In any case I would liken a large proportion of Ferrari fans (Not you) as being the same as Man U fans or HRT fans. In other words they understand little to nothing of the sport anyway, it is just that supporting that team usually takes less effort & attention than others. Which they need for breathing. The big teams up the front all sell massively more merchandise than those in the mid pack & on the rear o the grid. I mean, how much merch do you reckon Team India or Toyota sell? The jacket count in the stands really only ever tells you how successful a team has been in the last few years. By way of an analogy every other muppet around home used to wear Essendon jumpers - now (thankfully) you don't see any. Bit like HRT jackets. Next year expect to see every other muppet in a Brawn jacket. So, Roy, seeing as how you are an expect - how do I get my hands on a Delhi Daredevils jersey????
  18. Actually to the extent that I have thought about it there is a fundamental problem in my logic. Simply put the threshold (for want of a better word) for entry into any of the activities I care about can be best quantified as being high enough to keep the dickheads out. Hmmm. I guess the reason everything has to be so organised is because that is how our society has evolved. Believe me I don't need any convincing of the merits or otherwise of that when I have to get up at 6.00am to get to scrutineering. But to the extent that an activity can give the general populous the sh!ts or affect them adversely, then yeah, it does need to be properly organised. The upside of it things being well organised is it offers a path for development & a support structure to enable people to learn & better enjoy their activities. Which I guess you would well understand if you are participating at a national level in anything. (See I do read stuff)
  19. Gold. Gold I tell you.
  20. Give them somewhere to get the sillies out that won't affect the general public. Is that such a bad idea? No, but where would that be? Anyone with a loud exhaust pulling a burnout will generate a heap of noise. The facility for such a thing would therefore need to be a long way from any residence. Like Kwinana. Or 10kms out the back of Collie. Or Wanneroo. In other words as has been noted too far away for people to bother with. Plus money would be needed to be found to develop it. To pay for such things as staff, public liability insurance, upkeep etc etc... $20 for a few people a night would hardly make a dent in the problem. As has been observed elsewhere - there are dickheads everywhere. Look at the end of the day people don't do stupid things for lack of facilities or lack of organisation. They do stupid things because they are dickheads. What needs fixing is their dickhead tendencies. The best & probably only way to do this is to get them involved in properly organised activities. Of whatever nature & at whatever level they can aspire to. There are already more than enough outlets for this. Which is my point. The analogy I used was to advocate the benefits of organisations & properly organised events that already exist. It wasn't a comment on the activity itself.
  21. You missed the point. What I am saying is that motorsport is organised & regulated. Just like paintball. Just like almost any sport or activity you can care to think of. So why would an exception be made for a tiny minority? Least of all a bunch of idiots/dickheads? Just because some people can't plan ahead or organise themselves doesn't give them carte blanche to give everyone else the sh!ts. The "Its all too hard" excuse is a feeble one at best.
  22. McLaren & Ferrari aren't anywhere. Which just goes to show of how little import any one team is to F1.
  23. I am sorry but I completely fail to understand where you are coming from. Barbagallo have test & tune days, the speed events series runs there plus all manner of other clubs (eg HSV club, Porsche club etc). A day out is competitive as you want it to be. Collie may be too far away for you, but not everyone lives in Perth. Wanneroo is a 3 hour drive for me but I still can find the time. YOu don't need to book the track there are plenty of groups who you can join. AHG have regular competition, training days & the like. If people don't have the time/money/motivation to do things properly then they shouldn't be bitching about a lack of facilities. If you want an analogy it is this: I want to go paint balling but I can't be bothered nor can I afford to go to a proper facility. So why cant me & my mates just run up & down random streets in suburbia shooting at each other? The reason is simple: Because it will sh!t the local residents to tears. There is an industrial area a few kms from where I live. But I still can hear spankers in commodores doing single pegger burnouts late at night. Not everyone enjoys your preferred outpourings of, err, patriotism. Love to all, etc....
  24. Closer to Perth & cheaper than Barbs? You don't want much do you? The WASCC (ie Wanneroo ie Barbagallo) are currently busting their guts getting money out of the government in order to lengthen & improve the circuit. Collie are doing the same. There are other facilities out near the airport (Speed dome, AHG driving centre) plus the motorplex at Kwinana. Frankly if you cant find something worth going to this week you are not trying. Look I need to preface the rest of this post by saying I am not having a go at any one person. People don't have "street fun" because there is no easy alternative. There are a vast array of alternatives. They do it because they are: A: Are too stupid to realise the consequences. B: Are too lazy to do anything properly. C: Are too ignorant to be competitive in any organised events. Like Keets said these threads pop up every week or so. As often as not it starts because some muppet didn't have all his lights working or attracted attention by bad driving or similar. Then got pinged because his tyres were bald & his bov was atmo. Frankly I look at these threads & think that the yellow was entirely deserved. If you want to modify & drive your car in ways that are not legal & do so simply to attract attention then why get all upset when you get the attention you are so desperately seeking?
