  1. The old question "Where were you when you were shit?" should apply to all people who regard themselves as Ferrari fans. If like Michael Schumacher you cannot envisage a time when Ferrari were any good without him driving then you cannot count yourself as Tifosi.
  2. Anyone devoid of even an ounce of talent can put a car in the wall. But the reach around gear change is the mark of a true champion. Once you have mastered the art of the reach around you will never look back....

Well it may be a bit hard if you are in Karratha, but if you are doing FIFO I am sure someone will have an event on when you are in Perth. As an aside I have found the people who organise & participate in these things to be enthusiastic, supportive & generally great to deal with. The shame of it is that there aren't more people involved. Have a look at http://www.circlework.com.au for some photos of the Speed event at Wanneroo last weekend (14th). You can see that anything from a full blown series IV RX-7 sports sedan to a humble Mini is perfectly fine to get out there & have a go in.

Well my point is twofold. 1. Once you have had a proper go at some track days you will understand how completely lame "exploring the limits" of your car on the road is. 2. We need to differentiate ourselves as "motoring enthusiats" simply so we don't all get landed with the "hoon" tag.

I don't think so. You can organise a temporary CAMS licence on the day. When you get you act together & want a permanent one (re-issued every 12 months) it involves the massive inconvenience of A. Filling out a form. B. Writing a cheque/credit card authorisation for <$100. C. Sending it to CAMS. It really is not that hard.
  6. Ferrari = dodgy. It is ingrained in their team culture.

You mean like these places? http://www.motoringsouthwest.org.au http://www.wascc.com.au http://www.dtec.com.au http://www.motorplex.com.au Or these groups? http://www.nolimitevents.com http://www.speedeventseries.com http://www.driftwa.com http://www.dtec.com.au/mc-motorsport Frankly I get tired of people whinging there is nowhere to go & yet when I turn up to track days there are half empty grids.
  8. Arrows were pretty much always rubbish. The only time they were any good was when Damon Hill drove for them & Ron Tauranac helped fix the installation issues they had with the Yamaha V10 motor. They should have won in Hungary in 97. The back marker rule is relatively new - about ten years or so I think. It used to be drivers needed to scare the crap out of the back markers to get by. For example Senna was brilliant at it. Prost less so. Just another art lost to GP racing.....
  9. It will never be the same now that Minardi have gone. Actually now that I think about it it hasn't been the same since the made it mandatory for the back markers to leap out of the way whenever the leaders come within 300 metres of them.
  10. Pads, rears were Bendix Ultimates & fronts were Ferodo DS2500's. I will post up a pic when I get organised.

Given the choice between spending money to fix a problem & not spending money the government will always pick the latter. Even at the expense of making everyones lives that bit more difficult. Unfortunately it has reached the point whereby traffic policing is more about PR than anything else. As for your second point - well I don't agree. The sort of clown who choses to do burnouts on the roads or generally drives like an idiot is almost never seen at any of the regular track events run by various organisations. The requisite planning, commitment & discipline is well beyond the reach of these intellectually challenged folk. What upsets me the most is the police & government PR doesn't bother differentiating between dickheads driving rubbish but supposed performance cars & people who might otherwise be referred to as car enthusiasts. The next time I hear of a bog standard Commode and/or Foulcan referred to as "high powered" I think I will throw up. Remember car enthusiasts are not hoons & hoons are not car enthusiasts.
  13. Then use the RDA. The DBA 4000's crack from the return slots. I have lost two rotors to this - one from & one rear & both with minimal wear.
  14. If you mean the SES at Wanneroo their should be some soon. Lots of photographers there. It usually takes a couple days. Try one or other of the Barnes family. After anything in particular?
  15. The race you are thinking of was in the US from 1990, Pheonix, I believe. To be honest I cannot remember if the Tyrrell had the anhedral/dihedral (can't remember which is down) front wing at that race. It was introduced that year, but not in the first few races I think. If you want a proper example of a team being fkd over by the FIA have a look at what they did to Ken in the mid eighties. Made up some seriously dodgy allegations of him using illegal fuel so they could make everyone run turbo motors. It was nothing short of a disgrace. I don't think you can lay the blame for the teams long term demise at the feet of the Japanese pay drivers. Tyrrell had their last good chance to make an impact when they scored Honda V10 engines (when McLaren went to the V12's in '91) and had Stefano Modena driving for them. They had good sponsorship from Braun, but unfortunately the Pirelli tyres combined with the new motors heft made them uncompetitive in a year when they needed to reestablish themselves. After that they never had the money to return tot he top levels.
  16. You don't think that the department of whatever are dumb enough to tell people exactly where they are do you? Nice website update too. www.bunburyic.com.au I am pretty confident that there is more to the story than the PIMM utterings.
  17. Check to see if you have blown an indicator light. That is the usual reason.
  18. THe problem with being a cynic is that you get no enjoyment about being proved correct.
  19. How could have possibly gone past the Simtek? I mean, really.
  20. It is amazing how quick Ferrari fans are to chuck accusations about. Guess they know how to cheat properly. Ron Dennis is one of only a few team directors (Him & Frank Williams) whose integrity has been unarguably floorless over the years. It has not been alledged that McLaren gained from the Ferrari information, nor that even Honda has. On a happier note, here is hoping that Piquet jnr can land a drive with Spyker as a prelude to getting a Renault seat next year. His old man in the Brabham was just awesome & if the kid has anything like his talent he will do very well.
  21. If only there was a circuit in Queensland that combined a good history with an interesting layout.
  22. You are correct. Pumping losses for airflow in piping systems are very temperature dependant. Therefore you are better off having the cool side on the longer run if you want to avoid frictional losses. With regard to lag there are two different sorts: 1. Turbo lag, ie time it takes the turbo to build up tot he requisite boost. 2. Throttle lag, ie time it takes for all the air to go through the induction system, intercooler included. As is self evident what helps turbo lag will hinder throttle lag. So you pays you money & you makes your choice. Better off spending it elsewhere.
  23. It is pretty common to make the accusation that a new driver and/or anyone that is starting to make an impact has a glass jaw. Watch for the Hamilton critics come out with that the first time he runs into some difficulties.
  24. They are different. The difference is more than 10mm.
