No actually my (very) ex-mechanic used magnatec in my car... And I chose the dealer/specialist in question because I had done my research and had decided on Amsoil for my vehicle. I wouldn't ask Autobarn/Supercheap or Repco for the time of day let alone advice on oil You make alot of assumptions. I wasn't calling everyone a muppet just those that were dispensing poor advice and making too many assumptions
-
+1 for Amsoil AMO 10w40 fully synthetic. Amsoil filters are pretty good to from what I have read & heard I use those when I can... Although currently running a Drift magnetic filter which are also good (there is a thread on here somewhere about them) I get all of this stuff from a mob called Lubrication Management who live this shit. It is all they do is sell and analyse oil... mainly for race teams They were horrified that I was running Castrol Magnatec when I first rocked up and they made me flush the old oil - Jesus you should have seen the shit that came out! If track your RB regularly a top quality oil & filter is an investment. Don't listen to some of the muppets on here that don't have a clue

Honestly mate after the issues I've had lately with my Walbro and the negative experiences of others on this forum (including numerous tuners) I wouldn't touch a Walbro even if it was legit! Do yourself a favour and get a Bosch or Deatschwerks (exact same drop in fitment as a Walbro and comes with a Nissan kit) http://www.prospeedr...GTS%252dTs.html
-
I feel your pain mate... My Walbro has been slowly dying in the arse (less than 2 years old and 10k's) after recent power upgrades - it cannot keep up with 250rwkw@14v There seems to be people happily running these numbers with them (e.g. dyno results thread)... but also just as many with problems these days! Fuel supply is not something I want to leave up to chance... god knows what damage has already been done (hello knock!) P.S Just purchased one of these 300lph Deatschwerks to replace the Walbro: http://www.prospeedr...GTS%252dTs.html It flows the same as an 044 and is a drop-in, in-tank replacement at a lower cost.

Bell end I didn't think school holidays started until next week?

I'd say don't comment on things that you clearly know nothing about. My tuner is one of the most experienced in the biz (Robert @ Sabbadin) and I am very happy with his work. He came down to Sandown at short notice and spent an hour helping me out at no charge! That kind of customer service is farking hard to come by these days! Most tuners don't even answer the phone/email/sms and are proper a-holes to deal with. This is the second time that he has looked at this issue free of charge for me assuming it was his tune that was the problem. We both assumed the problem was too much timing in a couple of cells but that was not the answer. There were no problems with the pump during the original tune or second check-up where of course he used a wide band. The issue was almost impossible to recreate until the track day where it just got worse as the day went on P.S if you read through the symptoms it doesn't make any sense that it would intake temperature related
-
Thanks for the input guys... as always much appreciated There are enough negative comments and experiences here combined with the symptoms my car is experiencing to make me very suspicious about the Walbro. I am ordering a Deatschwerks DW301which flows about the same as a 044 at 65psi (see link above) and is a drop in replacement. $200 is cheap insurance in my books after the funds that my Skyline has sucked up so far... I also have a wide band coming for Xmas (PLX DM6+Wideband) so i can keep a closer eye on AFRs Hopefully the fix is that simple I will update this thread with my findings and results on the fix and the DW301
-
Agreed it should be OK according to those figures and there seems to be plenty of people running higher power levels than me with these pumps However I'm not the only one that has had problems with the walbro at these power levels Have a look at my other thread here to see the symptoms I'm having and other peoples comments It certainly looks like it could be the pump at this stage... I was very careful but maybe I got a dodgy one? (if it is fake it is a bloody good fake!) http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/385690-r33-fuelingknock-issues/
-
I can't argue with that mate... It just that it is very difficult to any find flow charts for the 040 and the info from Bosch is not inspiring. After this experience I just don't want to take any chances
-
Yes I've decided not to go down the surge tank path... but will be keeping my tank topped up all day at the track
-
Your missing my point which was; like me and my tuner (who you were having a go at) you still tried and you were shooting for 280rwkw+ whereas I was only shooting for 250rwkw How many "high horse power" cars running Walbros do you want? http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=search&fromMainBar=1 I'm not going to argue the point with you because I agree the Walbro is not up to the task... However you're saying that it's common knowledge and that my tuner f^cked up and I'm saying that it isn't and he didn't. Let's move on!
-
Yes people are doing that... you should also install a one-way valve apparently and a it's bit of mucking around to fit the pump & sock The 044 pump is designed to lie flat (that's why you need the one-way valve for an in-tank install) and I have heard of people (on forums) having reliability issues with the pump when it is installed in an upright position. Call me old fashioned but when it comes to the fuel system I'd rather not take chances using devices for purposes they weren't designed for... again... OK I f^cked up with the Walbro The 044 would work well in-line with the Walbro feeding it but I am off the Walbro big time after this experience and relying on 2 pumps when you can get away with one seems stupid unless your utilising a surge tank
-
DW301 is the exact same dimensions as the Walbro but it is an in-tank pump unlike the 044
-
I understand what your saying but my tuner didn't install anything on the car... He did ask about the pump and how it was wired up and clearly the engine wasn't leaning out on the dyno or during road tests. There also appears to be plenty of high HP cars out there running OK on Walbro's... weren't you running a Walbro with a GT3037? Just saying... it ain't a perfect world mate Back on topic; do you have any experience with or opinions about the DW301?
-
There were no issues on the dyno or during road testing at the time. I have full confidence in the tuner (Sabbadin automotive) these guys have been doing it longer than most and have an impressive track record. The problems started happening towards the end of a couple of long spirited runs through the hills and then again on the track deteriorating as the day went on. It really does sound like the Walbro is getting hot and slowly breaking down under long periods of high load. Anyone got any experience with the DW301?
-
What data sheet are you looking at Sarge? There seems to be some wild claims made about the 040 but I tend to go straight to the source: http://apps.bosch.com.au/motorsport/downloads/fuelpumps.pdf That would be only 102LPH @ 6.5 bar for the 040!!! A definate downgrade from the Walbro... it's the 044 or nothing from Bosch for me however I have reservations about putting one in the tank (not what they were designed for) which is why I've been looking at the DW301 & Aeromotive 340 (DW301 seems to be more tested and comes from Deatschwerk who are known for quality injectors etc). FYI - the DW301 has similar flow rate/characteristics as the 040 http://forums.evolutionm.net/automotosports-illinois/566110-bosch-044-aeromotive-stealth-340-deatschwerks-dw300-walbro-255lph-fuel-pump-test.html
-
The pump is wired to the battery via a relay and I gave it a new earth etc Knock was getting up to 120 No (550cc Tomei's should handle this power easy) No (ditto for the Z32) My tuner was there at the track (FYI - Sabbadin automotive have fantastic customer service!) pulling timing from cells (5 degrees out of a conservative tune) etc but it just didn't make any difference... I'm sure they would have double checked injector duty cycle and AFM levels etc the only thing that couldn't be checked was AFRs due to lack of wide-band hence the suspicion about the lack of fuel. The issue was also mostly occuring only in high gears at the end of the straight i.e. after I'd been on WOT for some time again raising suspicions about fuel.
-
I know I don't need a surge tank for the amount of power I'm running - it's the track work that is the concern with surge
-
Bingo! @65psi the Walbro is only flowing 170lph which is only just enough for 450HP from my (very rough) calculations. Keep in mind these flow figures for fuel pumps are averages taken from limited samples so you may get a bad one (or a good one) Anybody trying to run 500HP on one of these is fooling themselves the pump will be right on the edge of it's limits (Walbro only rate them to 500HP and that is only at 3bar) The NISMO pump seems a little pricey and still only flows 276lph @ 3bar... The DW301 is half the price and is still flowing close to 275lph @ 5 bar and is also a drop in replacement! I'll definately be going back in for a tune and will also be recieving a wide-band for Xmas. I am not keen to do any more "testing" (read detonating my engine to hell!) without taking some remedial action first (i.e. new pump) and fitting the wide band so I can see what's going on with my AFRs. For a couple of hundred dollars ia new pump is cheap insurance! I have seen that engine management warning light flash a little too often for my liking lately... god knows how much damage has already been done P.S. The PFC is going great thanx Mafia

Hi Guys I have recentyl upgraded the RB25DET with 550cc injectors and a HKS GT-RS turbo plus supporting mods. My tuner originally said 245rwkw @ 18psi At the track for the first time on the weekend and I was getting knock; it started out in 5th gear only, even on small throttle openings and seemed to get worse as the day went on... occuring at lower boost and in lower gears. My tuner came down did some data logging (without a wide band) and reckons my fuel pump isn't keeping up... It is a recently (less then 2 years and 15000kms) installed Walbro 255lph with the direct battery feed (14v) and new earth etc. I went to a lot of trouble to confirm it was a genuine Walbro and was purchased from reputable Aussies dealer (NOT Ebay!) My tuner also said that they have recently found out that their dyno under-reads by about 30kw at the 250kw mark so my beast is actually putting out more like 275rwkw (nice to have some good news!). I think at this power level the Walbro may be struggling (especially at the end of the straights) and I'm looking at the Deatschwerks DW301 in-tank replacement pump. Has anyone else experienced similar issues? What was the cause/fix? My tuner is also recommending a surge tank... So my main question is how neccessary is a surge tank in an often tracked R33? It seems like a complicated, expensive set up with more things to go wrong (relying on 2 pumps) and is also very obvious and illegal (car is still street legal and stealthy). How good are the R33 fuel tanks (baffles) etc for track work? At what point do you seriously need to consider a surge tank on an R33? Cheers

Hi Guys I'm looking at the Deatschwerks DW300 pump for my 275rwkw RB25 anyone got any experience, comments or other options to consider? I currently have a Walbro that is only a couple of years old (low kms) and failing me badly (reaching it's limits @450HP?) NISMO pumps flow 276lph @ 43psi and I haven't seen a pump yet that doesn't drop off at higher pressures so I'm not convinced they will be any better then the DW300 (they are also 3 times the price!) The Bosch 040 is weak as piss... the other option is to put a 044 in-tank but the Deatschwerks looks like an easier fit and will meet my power requirements without going OTT Would love to hear your learned comments and feedback

Clutch Pivot Ball
Checkbuzz replied to SlowSkyline's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
+1 - The standard clutch pivot ball is a known weak-link and you are running a HD clutch. You can pick up a NIMSO item off Ebay for $60 (40% stronger). Job Done -
Brand: K-Sport Piston QTY: 8 Rotor Size: 330mm Piston Diameters: Unknown but they are not all the same size Comments: Best bang-for-buck brake upgrade on the market.

As everyone else has said get new coil packs - anything else is just an exercise in turd polishing! Do not get the cheap coilpacks (hello JJR!) as they are a waste of money - get Split fires or OEM (currently going cheap on SAU forums!) My tuner explained to me (after replacing my <2 year old JJR coil packs with Split fires) that the "popping" that you get every now and again (usually heat related i.e. when the coil packs get hot they don't work as well) can be worse for the engine than detonation!

I have ordered mine as well Oil pressure is also next on my list... If you have a look at the specs in that link the outputs appear to be suitable for your requirements... there is even a link on using it to replace your current stock 02 sensor!
