  1. From the EPA website the 'Modified vehicle guide line' says that the guideline is not applicable to vehicle pre June 1976 (ADR 27A), then the default is the Motor Vehicle Safety act of 2009 which requires the max of 4.5% CO requirement.
  2. I don't think it's the only difference. I think the ECU's are different, and the CAMS are different too. Perhaps injectors, but I'm not sure. The rest I think you'd have to find out for yourself on this forum??
  3. The document you refer to isn't for pre 1976 cars. I'll dig out the official requirement for ya.
  4. Just to clarify a few of those comments previously. There has been a revision to this rule. You can in fact run both a pod filter and aftermarket intercooler if your vehicle is built prior to June 1976. You are only obligated to meet the emission standards of the date your vehicle was built now (not engine). If pre 1976, your vehicle is only obligated to meet 4.5% CO readings at idle and 1200 rpm. In my case my car is cleaner than this requirement.. (insert picture of doves flying over head and heaps of green meadows filled with skantily clad blondes running in my direction to hug me) This information was given to me from my engineer. It's great to know, because I was always worried about the pod filter I have. Also, supposedly all I have to do for future modifications (ie larger turbo, injectors and electronic boost control... even aftermarket ECU) is notify my engineer for another CO test and he updates the report. As long as I am below 4.5% CO, i'm set! Even more reason to buy that KPGC10 GTR or C110 or anything else old skool prior to 1976!
  5. To answer this straight from the EPA document (perhaps we all need to read it to come back up to speed - I did for a refresher...) So basically the Datsun 180B (HAHhahaha) has to pump out below 96db(A) You poor suckers in your skylines have to pump out less than 90db(A) Can anyone say KPGC110 Skyline? (96dB with an RB26DETT fitted????)
  6. Regarding comments on engine replacement: The EPA has stated: So basically the Datsun 180B as previously mentioned by Ash with the Rb26DETT fitted (aside from the fact that this combination is illegal due to the weight of the motor, and the factory power output being over the limit for a car weighing under 1000kg... whereas an SR20 is perfect.........) can legally be fitted if justified by an engineer that the modifications performed are deemed equal to or less than the 'original vehicle'. Now this is open to discussion as the original vehicle could be the Datsun, or it could be the Skyline. I think in this case it is the skyline. So technically you could fit a pod filter, aftermarket intercooler and other associated odds and ends, and after the relevant tests performed and engineer sign off , it would be legal. If in doubt speak to a VASS automotive engineer.
  7. Regarding the previous posts on aftermarket turbo kits for V8's or V6's or anything else that is commercially available. APS (a local melbourne supplier of aftermarket turbo charger systems to put twin turbo's on your v8 commodore or twin turbo's for your 350Z etc.) perform the necessary ADR testing to the emissions requirements and conform to the EPA rule: This basically means the company has paid the money for the test and done the R&D to get it to conform. Technically you could fit a 350Z motor to your skyline with twin turbo's from the APS system and it would be 100% legal...
  8. Nope. They came out with the ECCS red top, and the NICS red top. The NICS is the older of the two, and comes with the funky 8 (4 short and 4 long) style plenum chamber.
  9. If your car came with an airbag, that was the year that needed it...
  10. May sell for cheaper without RWC (but it only needs a windscreen and fitment for the Cert...) Say perhaps $8490 withou RWC?
  11. What sort of rear muffler did you run?
  12. Thanks davecarter, I'm not sure, but I think the market is ultra Slooooooooooowww at the moment.
  13. You sure you didn't miss read the reading of 90.4? On a serious note, do you have paper work to show 90.4? Usually they have a tolerance.
  14. I was always keen on making a pod box from carbon fibre. Doesn't conduct heat as bad as aluminium, and can be moulded into a variety of different shapes. Just bloody expensive. NZM031, that's a nice engine bay mate. Looks tidy. Another good thing about non polished stuff is that if you scratch it, it's easy to blend it out and most scratches don't appear that much.
  15. How easy was it to fit the GTR FMIC? Was it a kit? I always wanted to fit a FMIC to my HR31, but never got around to it. (fitted a FMIC to my 1600 instead - probably more work....) <free bump>
  16. Preferably local so I can inspect and drive (and extend the same opportunity to the prospective buyer of the HR31)
  17. Interested in swaps?? (and cash in your general direction!)
  18. Would've been more interested if you were in VIC. Wanted a VR4 or Stagea to swap for my HR31. What are you interested in swapping for?? (obviously a skyline due to advertising here???)
  19. Battery wire tie downs every 600mm (60cm). From memory that's the requirement, but sometimes it's better to have every 40cm. It's a fair call, but pretty pedantic. If I was the copper, I would've said "Fix this and you can go on your way". As for the open ended wheel nuts.... Not sure!
