  1. What is being missed here is that concepts are designed to raise the profile of the manufacturer. They are to show case the ability of the design teams and show the potential innovation of the brand. The Coupe 60 got so much publicity because it showed the potential of the Holden brand, it opened speculation that it may be built. BMW released the GINA concept car with the fabric panelling, this was to showcase innovation. Concept cars are a rareity, they are almost never released for sale, if a production 1971 351 GTHO fetches $750k, who is to say that a one off concept is not worth inexcess of $1m. Value is proportionate to scarcity. Would I pay $170k for the W427, no I wouldn't, but I did pay that for a Datsun, some people would call that just as crazy.
  2. Hi guys just thought I would give you a heads up incase you damage you lower spoiler and need to get it replaced. I had my bumper scratched including the lower spoiler by a Valet car park attendant. They agreed to cover the costs, however the quote I have got to get this done is amazing: Front Bumper: $2768 (Supply Only) Front Bumper Lower Spoiler: $2058 (Supply only) This is without painting. Total repair is $7440.00 with painting, fitting etc. Makes the $999 ebay one quite attractive. The scratch is not that bad, but the car was new before they did it and as such it is going to be new after the repair. Lesson: Treat the car with care...repairs are expensive
  3. OK...all this midpipe talk got me motivated. Mid-Pipe is ordered. Let the games begin.
  4. I might have a little project for the weekend...if I can show my wife that it is quieter...then the Willal mid pipe may be an option.....hmmmm
  5. I find cars are much cheaper to run.....oh and I have always had a tear in my eye when I have parted with a car....
  6. Well do tell ....I would love a set...the 1.5 on front and 1 on the rears was pointless, so 2.7 sounds like a good start. PM if you like or just post where I can get a set. Cheers, Gibbo
  7. Stumbled across this whilst surfing for some accessories: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Nissan-R35-GTR-Fron...703143001r11152 Seemed like a very good price, may be good for those track day misadventures. Cheers
  8. One thing we really care about here in Australia is the new versus old. We always quote improvements from one model to the next. A great series would be side by side comparisons of cars as they have improved...then throw in the wild card. Eg R32, R33, R34 then the R35, have the 0-100, the 1/4 mile and then a hot lap. You could do the same with the HSV GTS Cars...but throw in a CSV car also to mix it up. Ford could do their V8 mosters but throw in the F6 as the future of ford. M3's from BMW but throw in the 335 as a wild card. At the end of the series you have the best from each Marque in a shoot out. HSV, FORD, BMW, MERC etc etc. Top 10 in a shoot out. Like Wheels performance car of the year...but live (Even include a Joe average as one of the drivers in say the 0 - 100). This could be one segment. That would get the fans from all brands watching...for bragging rights. You want it done all at the same time in identical conditions, not on some witches hat track done over a 5 month period. I also would like to see a "scientific" episodes... like effects of drink driving. Get a bomb of a car, full cage etc and then do a series of motor khana tests including slalom, a set track etc. See how times decrease with progressive comsumption of alcohol. You get the laugh of the driver plus the progression of getting pissed. You could also do the generation game, instead of celebrities you have P plater, 20's, 30's 40's 50's 60's etc....and you run them through a series of driving tests including skid pan, track work, 0-100 etc etc. Once again all at the same time, actually competing. They need to add something different....maybe these would be a start.
  9. Someone has to show me this method....I am getting bogged at 2,000revs. Are you guys holding the brake pedal, stomping the gas and waiting for the revs to build, or are you one the brakes, stomp the gas and release just as the revs climb towards the 2,700 mark. I just seem to have the car fighting the brakes, there is no progression past 2000 revs.
  10. Day was a bit ordinary, rained for the first 4 hours, then the sun came out. No chance for any completely dry runs, as such the effort was abandoned ...till next time. Let me know how the camber mod goes, 1.5 was no where near enough.
  11. Guys after the most recent track day and then some 0-100 test I have found that since my car went into Nissan for the 2000km "tune" it seems to run slower. Main straight at the Creek I was struggling for speeds above 233km/h, before the 2000km service I was consistently seeing 237, up to 241. 0 -100 times are all around 4.4 second, I have got a 4.2 but I am getting the bog down off the line (hesitation). This was not there before the 2k service. I am wondering if the Nissan guys have put a new tune through the car during this service...I will be hitting them up today on this.
  12. What is the proof behind the Dunlops being quicker? I am curious, I have a set of Dunlops about to go on my car after the original ones are almost shagged after 2 track days. Any real tests done would be great, if not I will post comparo times when I get back to the creek on the dunlops. Cheers
  13. Sorry did it get 4th or 7th... Either way I am not sure why they thought it was ugly with a quote like: "But it ain’t pretty. Impressive, yes. Cool even, the design – like the engineering – fabulously precise and detailed. But undeniably brutish with it, from the gaping grille and Terminator-like beady eyes to the cartoonish, howitzer sized multi-barrelled exhaust system. Untamed aggression is all part of the package though. And we love it!" Anyway I love it.....like a mother loves an ugly baby.
  14. I had an issue with the wife...she could not stomach a $170k Nissan, however after she took it for a drive her mind is completely changed. She no longer wants to take her BM anywhere...it's always "You look after the kids and I'll duck up the street in your car". I am convinced that 95% of the people that knock the GTR have never driven one, once they drive it their mind will often change. My wife and her Euro snobbery was converted. She loves the new Datsun.
  15. I have just had the camber done 1.5mm front and 1mm rear. This is the first alteration from last months track day. 146.8 was my record last month...lets see what the camber does. Also I have a set of the Dunlops going on next, will then do another test, same camber etc.
  16. Try thinking of a decent driver that can actually present a show. The current guys are just hopeless. Maybe one of the drift guys like Leighton Fine or Luke Fink to back him up. They need a genuine personality not some half baked has beens or never was's
  17. This is a question for the guys that are measuring their 0-100 time with the performance box, drift box or similar. How far out are you finding your speedo. I invested in a performance box on Friday and have done a range of checks. I am finding my speedo is out by about 5km/h from about 57km/h on the speedo. Eg at 62km/h on the speedo I am doing 57km/h on the performance box. What are you guys finding? This is going to effect 0-100 times and also other "quoted" performance. I am running cmpletely stock setup with the Bridgestones. I look forward to the feedback.
  18. Agreed, Grant Denyer would have been great. current line up is sh!te
  19. If I am not mistaken it was the VS GTS and the Blue Printed GTS-R that came in yellow. The SV5000 came in British Racing Green. I could be wrong but I don't think so. Cheers
  20. Hence you have confirmed my point, the cars are identical....it is not the cars performance that has contributed to the time differences. It is drivers, conditions etc etc.....but not the cars. So to with any comparitive test that is done, at a certain point it is no longer the car.....it becomes external factors. Especially when cars are this close in performance. This is why Porsche could only pull a 7:50 and Suzuki could do a 7:26...Suzuki knows the car perfectly. Put him in a Porsche GT3 and he may only do a 7:55...who knows, the point is you get a "company Expert" in each which know their respective cars perfectly and they will provide the best bench mark....however that does not mean that it will translate into anywhere near that in the real world with us driving. Cheers
  21. I have another track day next Wednesday at the Creek (24th). There will be another 2 R35's there. I have organised one of the instructors (Professional V8 Supercar Driver) to do a couple of hot laps, I will tape the footage and try to get a Performance Box or similar for the day to then do a complete overlay. This should be a good base to start from...or to aspire to. Cheers
  22. You know what your points would be valid except even professional drivers ability differs dramatically. A very basic example is a simple test done by Top Gear Australia, the race they do in the "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car". To date they have had Mark Skaife, Greg Murphy and James Courtney. Their times are below in an idential car: 1:22.47 - Mark Skaife 1:23.53 - James Courtney 1:23.60 - Greg Murphy We look at a relatively short track with 3 "professional drivers" and we have over 1 second difference. Therefore by your logic Mark's car must be the best. The fact is it has nothing to do with the car at this point. With a 1.13 second difference on a 1:23 laptime we are looking at an variability of 1.58%. On Nurburgring this equates to a variablilty of 7 seconds based on "professional driver". The "science" of this comparison is pointless, especially when we are talking 10th's of a second difference between cars now. My point is: when quoting Nurburgring Laptimes on the top 5 cars to prove which car is better, you might as well quote which is better to reverse park, because when you get to these degrees of variability they are not statistically significant. Hence my call to get off your a$$ and onto the track. The capability of these cars is now only up to the individual driver, not the cars potential anymore. The potential is proven.
