Hey Marlin, It was a bit of a tongue in cheek comment, but I guess my main issue is one of not so much purity but really molesting an otherwise nice car. You can certainly make gains from the length of the engine itself i guess but I imagine being a large v8 and alloy too that more material would actually be required for the same strength hence the weight would not be a huge differential (without being able to see figures), it goes without saying there are alot of weaknesses inherent with certain engine designs which incorporate alloy. There is plenty of power to be made from a 2.6 Litre, having huge capacity increases isn't exactly necessary. In my oppinion not all big capacity 8's sound good, very few do actually, but this doesn't mean others cant like them That said I have heard a crown with a 1uz with a nice exhaust on it and it sounds magic !

32 Gtr Tyres And Attessa
Nee-san replied to Cosa's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Hey mate, Do you really think it's worth chancing it ? Realistically you could be looking at buying another 2 tyres anyway which means your not really saving any money, obviously it's totally up to you but you might just be better off buying 4 tyres of the same type and selling off your other two -
The seventh level of hell is reserved for those who put other engines in a GT-R.

32 Gtr Tyres And Attessa
Nee-san replied to Cosa's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Hey mate, Run a search in this section of the forum as this particular problem has been covered a number of times. As far as I am aware it is the actual rolling diameter of the wheel and tyre that is important for the ATTESSA ETS system. So having variance between front and rear diameters has been known to cause the ATTESSA ETS to behave in some pretty strage ways, like I said, do a search. Cheers, Mitch. -
Need A New Cat For R32 Gtr : Glutted, New Cat Or Test Pipe?

I actually run a high flow catalytic converter business, which drastically increases the flow through the unit whilst retaining the standard shell -

Need A New Cat For R32 Gtr : Glutted, New Cat Or Test Pipe?
Nee-san replied to cobrAA's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hey Cobraa, If you have a look on Ebay, there are a couple of cats, the main one manufactured by a workshop in western australia that are reasonably cheap $200 - $230 in 4 or 5". They use 100cpi metal matrix if i remmember correctly and these should flow sufficiently for your GT-SS's and at that price if your really chasing the power you can probably afford to knock the internals out for use on the track -
Great result , does it chirp second ?

I'm really glad we all see eye to eye on this, as I think it's an issue thats massively understated. Alot people seem to only be interested in making huge power and not fully understanding the considerable effects turbo selection plays on vehicle dynamics, gives turbocharging a bad rep...
-
Yeah massive difference, Nismoid is right, you actually have to put your car into a situation like that of a racetrack or a run through the hills before you will notice the change in transient response and be able to gauge whether it is right for you, just measuring the point at which the engine makes full boost or even begins to make boost is ultimately pretty uninteresting as it does not give an indication as to how the system will perform when asked to do more complex things like; driving the car with the throttle ie modulating mid corner or how it behaves and reacts dynamically, rather then just shoved down a gear at WOT.

Pretty keen to get it out and hit some cruises here in bris once shes running again.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I like that Imola wheel but as the car is daily driven i would prefer to avoide suede

Hey Gents, My car a 32 GT-R will soon be back on the road and am looking at getting it somewhat ready for trackwork. Just interested in what various people are using steering wheel wise, pro's and con's of various types recommendations etc, because at the moment I dont really know whats out there available for me I bought the car with an Isota steering wheel the thing is hideous and besides being horrible to hold, detracts from the otherwise sexy interior. Cheers, Mitch.

Spotted my car, in my garage, where it has been for the last 3 months

Yes, they went that way to fit into a certain displacement class, and I wholeheartedly agree with you about the state of tune of a standard 26 but as we know, the R32 GT-R was always destined for a life above 206kw.... As for the torque issue, at the end of the day I will have to respectfully disagree with you. I think these cars, with the philosophy behind their design are meant to be really driven hard to get the most out of their powertrains. No one can deny the RB26's output capabilities, which goes a long long way to making up for any loss of lower end torque. It is a high revving (relatively) small displacement turbocharged engine, one will never see the sort of lower end torque that makes around town driving feel sedate like a turbo diesel. In fact, many people find having to really drive the pants off something to go quick or get around to be half the fun, just ask the honda boys Realistically, if having bucketloads of lazy torque is a big kicker for you, you would obviously be better off with a V8, but no ones that desperate Failing this, RB32DETT = Win. Cheers, Mitch.

If you look at Displacement versus vehicle mass, the picture isn't really that bleak, I just think the 26 suffers from its status where people no longer consider 400-500Hp alot from a 2.6 Litre engine.

$400 for 30Kw is a very good deal, once you do all the basic stuff like ECU and Exhaust, getting a whack of power like that get's a whole lot more expensive then $400... My 2c

Better yet don't drive it at all is it worth the risk really ? Also as for -5's with a built motor and some go fast bits I see no reason why 430-460AWKW can't be acheived

Mrstabby, may i ask where you purchased your kit from ? -
Back OT, As for the choices, realistically the R32 has one or two advantages, these being; Weight, Price, some even prefer the styling the engine is almost exactly the same so there are no great advantages there. The primary differences as everyone has stated will be in a much nicer ride and interior as the car is in some cases 10+ years newer, newer styling you also get a 6 speed with the R34, all in all its still the same beast just a little bit fatter and a little bit more refined and nice.
