OMFG I am not well!

Sorry dude I didn't mean it as a personal attack .... the real problem lays in the high price your wholesalers charge you. Of course what you charge the public is a reflection of that cost. I just think that if Jpn shops can sell them at $283 retail, then someone is making a LOT of money in the middle somewhere. (between the Jpn wholesale price of say A$230 {which would leave the Jpn businesses with 20% markup} - and the Aus retail price of $483) - in fact 100% difference. This is the case with most Jpn goods - the middle man takes a large chunk of the pie. I agree parallel importing is a risk and here in Aus you have all the associated cost of shipping, wharehouse, staff, warranty etc to deal with, so all this has to be factored into your price. It's just a case of $968 + fitting vs. (possibly) $720 + fitting (assuming post from Jpn is $150 and no duty or GST). But if you can go any way to get near what I would be paying from Jpn then I'd be more than happy to send my business your way! Same goes with a Power FC (to suit S15/200SX), Greenline do them for $1,050 .... what can you do on them? (if you do them as well). Thanks for the open discussion. At the end of the day it's all about the money. If we can get it cheaper from OS then that's what we'll do, cos when we spend say $5,000 average on mods on our cars, if we save 20% off Aus prices we save a grand to spend on other things/upgrades. What would you rather pay? (Of course there are other issues like you stated to consider too). It's pure economics, nothing at all against the industry here of course.

TODA, man that's nasty .... he's just trying to help out a few mates in getting things that importers/licensees here make up to 100% profit on. There is no ****ing way I am gonnna buy Toda cams here (for example) that cost me over $500 a stick, when I can get them direct from Jpn or through Maxx for $283 + shipping .... even if I factored in the 15% duty and 10% GST I would still be ahead! (not by much, but still .... and thats if I got 'pinged' by customs).

Yeah my idea of fun .... about 30 young P-platers with powerful cars and no ****ing idea how to drive. Remember the last 4, 6 & Rotary cruise? I think there were 2 cars written off. I'd much rather cruise with people I know, and people that I know aren't going to do the wrong thing at the wrong time. (Nothing wrong with doing the wrong thing at the right time though )

I'd rather do a course in my own car .... so I can particularly figure out the nuances in handling and stopping (with professional advice). But the BMW course would be way cool anyhow!
-
*coff* yes racing in the wet is stupid *coff* I am 100% with John on this one, I have always believed that defensive driver ed courses should be compulsory for getting your licence, and indeed every 5 years thereafter. If the govt really gave a shit about the road toll they would heavily subsidise courses for eveyone - the resultant reduction in the road toll/police attendances/ambulance attendances/3rd party person insurance claims would surely give massive long term benefit (as well as less dead people) - not to mention decreasing the likelyhood of some wanker in a VL smacking into you cos he doesn't know how to brake properly and doesn't respect the power of his car and subsequent speed. So, I'll bring up the topic again - who wants to do a group driver training course? MattR brought this up a while back and I think we should pursue it. Sure it is a bit expensive, but if it saves you having an accident once it's well and truly worth it. Average excess even for a minor accident is like $650 or similar. Makes an investment in your driving seem cheap. Not to mention the fact that one day you might have to live with killing someone cos you couldn't stop properly! What IS your life worth???
-
cool well I'm in for sure .... does 7pm at Bunnings Mile End sound too conspicuous? Yep will be more than happy to do a couple of laps around the place then head back to my pad (Northgate) for an 8-ball comp .... anyone wanna challenge the house Champion? lol
-
Have power restrictions come in somewhere in Aus? I heard whispers they are contemplating doing it here in SA ..... how in hell would they determine your power though??? /imagines Copper: Excuse me sir, but I think your car has over xxxkw power - here have a canary Driver: wtf how can you have any idea how much power it has? Copper: I don't need to KNOW son, I think, therefore I AM .... muahahahahahaha you have 12 hours to reduce your power output, have the car on the police dyno and approved by the Nazi vehicle testing centre. Oh and here's a $500 fine 'cos I think you might be a hoon and would do heaps of burnouts and drag people everywhere you go. Driver: /sells nice car and buys a $300 rust-bomb-no-brakes datto cos you get hassled less by the cops.

kewlies .... will give ya a buzz .... even if we end up back at my place playing 8-ball
-
ooooh that was below the belt .... yeah Russell the love Muscle and I used to hang back in the day .... *waves my walking frame at Matt*

Anyone interested in a little cruise about the place - wife is out for the night and thinking about heading out and about ....
-
Oh yeah dude .... cowabunga for the Spillage on a Thurs night .... guaranteed fight every 5 minutes once happy hour has finished - with DJ ARMAC on the tunes (went to school with him lol).

They are for the SR20 but I'd assume RB20 cams are a similar price? The ones I am referring to don't need cam gears (not sure if RB20 ones would need cam gears - if so then they would obviously be more expensive). Yeah the A$ is the strongest its been for as long as I can remember against all currencies - even US$ items are reasonably priced with A$ tipping over the 65c mark .... if only we could get to 100 Yen to the dollar then my buying spree would well and truly begin
-
Joel .... you know - the Spillage .... or the RapeandPillage .... or the Piss Palace .... officially known as The Village Tavern, Golden Grove

Steve, whilst I am 100% for bringing in stuff yourself I had it pointed out to me that say you buy a PFC from JPN .... Cost ex-JPN $1,050 Shipping (say) $ 100 --------- TOTAL $1,150 BUT if customs open it and decide it should be taxed (supposed to if value over $200) then they will work out RRP in Aus $1,800 (I think)(and can take up to 2 weeks) duty on $1,800 * 15% = $270 THEN GST on total $2,070 plus GST on shipping $100 = $2,170 * 10% So in total you're up for $1,050 to buy the thing, $100 shipping, $270 duty and $217 GST TOTAL $1,637 .... that is 70% more than the original price of $1,150 landed here. If you get caught this is how it works. In saying all of that, I personally believe it is worth the risk of saving $700 .... so I AGREE with you Steve - just thought I'd point out how it works to the less informed btw did you see the price of Toda cams on the Greenline page? $283 each .... awesome performance upgrade for $700odd landed here! Of course in all of this you have to weigh up the warranty issue .... if something goes wrong, what then???
-
For waaaaay less than half the price (and heaps less insurance, parts/damage issues etc.) I know what I would choose .... again 'Just wait till you drift it' and you'll just how much fun even a lowly 160-odd rwkw S15 gets you! And a 13.33 second pass in full street trim is nothing to be sneezed at either! Of course if money is no issue then there is absolutely NO comparison!
-
I'll bet you breathed a giant sigh of relief that the copper was so dumb
-
Can you do Power FCs for $1,050 like Greenline? Can you please qoute me a price for an S15 200SX unit landed here in my hand including air freight, tax etc? Cheers

b4st4rds! I had my new 'S' Silvia front badge stolen right out the front of TTP (front row near the pedestrian crossing) in BROAD daylight .... stopped 20 minutes for lunch, came out it was gone .... there were youngsters everywhere out the front and they must've seen who did it. It must have been one of them that took it I disagree - it looks like they had no idea what they were doing .... they must have made HEAPS of noise and taken plenty of time to do that sort of damage! I had a 'Millenium' style pager installed in my car the other week .... as soon as someone as much as touches the car (shock sensor is set VERY light) the pager goes off in my pocket vibrating and flashing. Nice peace of mind anyhow! Sorry to hear about your misfortune dude .... I reckon we need to put a GTR out there one night and hide in the shadows then kick the living sh1t out of any bastards that go near it!

ROFL .... Zilla my Alpine is some second hand pos I picked up for about $50 a few years ago .... but it KICKS .... one of those lucky buys I guess .... but its not the fancy looking silver one if that's the one you meant!
-
Looks good Joolz, nice work! .... I'd be happy to contribute some cash toward the project.
-
hrm looks like the weather might take a turn for the worst .... hail etc .... I'm thinking of bailing (like a few others have mentioned to me already).
-
hey I'm interested too .... just have been sitting back watching .... I have DLS 6" splits in the front of my line with Alpine 10" sub with box in the rear - all driven by a 400Wrms Boss amp hidden under the drivers seat. Of course have the JVC MP3 deck running the show. I'd recommend not to bother with rears, but just put in a sub like I did - save your rears money toward a good amp - it will pay off big time in the end. I have always until now had rears but don't miss them at all now! btw if you're gonna go to Strathies go see Paul at Blair Athol, tell him you're a mate of Andrew Nuskes (if he doesn't recognise my last name say Derek Ahearns cousin) and he'll look after you.
