  1. I've recently imported a 89 ceffy with a rb20det (previously a auto non turbo it appears). Have had timing belt changed along with a major service so far since its arrival. Upon checking timing i aswel as the workshop have discovered that the idle timing is sitting at +30 degrees when the CAS is centered at where it normally should be at 15 degree. CAM belt has been double checked and is all aligned correctly and when put at top dead centre (i think thats what u call it) the harmonic balance also reads 15degrees where is should be. even if we retard the timing the whole way it will not get to 15degrees. so to double check that the timing was returning to normal upon load and acceleration we put it on the dyno, timing adjusted to normal as it accelerated/reved, no pinging was detected, power figure was at what it would be expected (116rwkw for completly stock car) , and was also running fairly rich..... btw we have checked ecu and it is stock and not chipped from visual inspection. and was also tested with 2 different timing lights to varify that one wasn't broken. does anyone have any ideas why its sitting at +30degrees at idle but as the revs increase returns to how it should be with no pinging or detonation what so ever??? i'm looking at swapping the ecu's with another rb20det soon, but other then ecu i'm kinda stumped and so is the workshop. cheers ben
  2. yeah agreed, clockwise retards it, anticlockwise advances it. and gatty, i also suggest u not touch ur CAS
  3. dude if ur in a rush or stuck for finding some just borrow some of another ceffy owner in sydney....get it engineered and rego'd then worry bout finding some later. edit - if also seen some for sale on yahoo auctions if ur interested
  4. ^ fair enough, thought i was off, but worth a try asking. cheers for clearing that up
  5. well if ppl say a rb20det can fit into a z31. then i highly doubt there will be much trouble putting a rb30 in (i'm sure someon on the 300zx forums has done it, and if not just measure it all up and that will give u a fair idea, u'll probally need custom engine mounts, but thats no big deal. better still while the rb30 N/A is in, save ur cash for a rb25 head and all the works to make a rb30Det for when ur off ur p's. beats any rb26dett!! :boobies2: btw if u posted this up in the general tech section u'll prob get more replies....
  6. dam....$1650!!! i paid $1200 for mine and only took 2 working days to be done. surely there is elsewhere u could go.
  7. i know this could be way off and slightly off topic, but would the fact that most of us are probally running the original auto computers (assuming with the limited amount of genuine manual ceffy's that were made) with now manual change anything with the timing when starting/warming up? (eg are the ignition maps different?) anyway dude as i have mentioned and as jaik also touched on, check ur thermostat (could be siezed open) and coolant temp sensor (could be old and faulty/corroded). other then that might be best to post ur issue up in the tech area as alot of r32 drivers would prob have experience/knowledge with such an issue aswel.
  8. yeah most cars do it when cold. just don't try giving it alot of throttle till its warmed up. if its taking so long to warm up (15min) then i'd check ur temp sensor or even thermostat
  9. hmm can't remember exactly but think it was like a dull green or silver sorta colour goin into deakin uni.
  10. ^ yeah im also in SE area although not as far and also thought of the cruise after seeing the NSW thread. I've personally only seen 2 other cefiro's drivin round melb (inarks one when he had it and a stock looking one around burwood). hmm i wonder how many ceffy's there actually are in Aust.... couple hundred?
  11. Just seeing how many ceffy owners are on SAU.
  12. yours may have a R32 RB20 in it, not a original ceffy one.
  13. my stock rb20det cef with i believe the original N/A tiny exhaust made 116rwkw, which i believe is pretty much what it should be making for a stocky. Hmm time to modify!
  14. i just got my ceffy complied with SRICAR. so if ur stuck, give them a try about the side intrusion bars. http://www.sricar.com/15yroldcompliance.htm Contact details are on thier website.
  15. buy it here, with no auction... http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...8307532473&rd=1
  16. hmm from memory, the power steering lines running to the HICAS unit need to be either blocked up with lugs/nuts or a U shapped pipe connecting them back into each either can be done with hose or made up metal piping, just make sure it doesn't leak. Better off blocking it up at the start of the lines under the engine bay. ah well that was probally a crap description. i'll take some photos of how mine was done if i get time. Also you'll probally get a alot better description by PMing skylinegeoff for instructions as he sells them normally with a typed up sheet of instructions.
  17. amerikiwi, that is probally one of my fav looking r34's, done very tastefully! also 10/10!!
  18. they do have a drum handbrake setup as stock, well mine did when i swapped it all over for r32 brakes and hubs not long ago. Just adjust it just like GTR-Ben has said.
  19. actually try http://www.driftcorp.com/driftcorpframeset.php and click team, the car is there, also with contact details on the site.
  20. Yeah from memory, they are both the same car at different stages, actually a Cefline (ceffy front on r32) and yes in NZ. I found them awhile on the net. Can't remember which site they are from.... Sorry dude.
  21. Yes, well i've imported a car via meggala and have been very happy with the service. Plus know of plenty other people who have only positive things to say so i think we will leave that issue alone (someonestolecc's issue has been discussed enough in another thead). By the way, the laurel has since been sold as i spoke to meggala today. Anyway back to topic, yes i'd agree with you konect that there are some potential cars been going lately (well last time i checked) on NS that are worth checking out.
  22. i know its not Sydney, but Meggala is selling a Cheap Laurel which would be a great project espec if u still got ur 180 motor. You would prob easily have it running within ur budget.
  23. Delete, Not needed anymore
  24. my ceffy had only a few removble things, but in the end had nothing taken or damaged. was quite relieved.
  25. when looking at the car from the front, its the one on the left. Although i'm pretty sure that they would work on either side. Don't think i will be getting a RWC for awhile yet as wanna get other things done b4 compliance first, so not in huge rush. If you are willing to sell it PIMP_DAT, if you find it, PM me a price.. Cheers Ben
