My R33 Gtst Buildup
Cowboy1600 replied to AlpineFreak's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Garrett GTX4294R with 1.01 rear housing Aye curumba! That's a hot list of goodies, but perhaps a touch overkill on the turbot? Me thinks the poor little 25 is going to struggle to huff out enough to fill such huge bellows. Keen to see how it all comes together! -
A KE55 corolla and save your cash until you're allowed a turbo car. Otherwise they are both puss, so buy whichever one you like the look of best because neither are performance cars and both are pretty much the same in terms of reliability.

Most of Staos charts show him pushing around 20psi, rarely over, and getting 300ish. 17psi nets him 290kw. Check the first page. He updated it last week with his most recent results. EDIT: That's on the G3 profile, by the way.

Coil packs, rear left wheel bearing and rust under mirrors are about the only issues to expect. Other than that, they are a mix of essentially an R33 GTR (drivetrain [note ESSENTIALLY]) and R34 GTT (engine). The rest is typical Nissan. I've got two sunroofs, neither leak. Everything else is tight, box doesn't crunch, all the various handles and buttons still work etc etc (on car with 125,000ks). I'd replace the o2 sensor the moment you get it home and give it an oil change with filter. Get box and diff fluids changed as well, just so you know precisely when it was all done last. Other than that you should get years of happy motoring. Just be aware that they are heavier than a Skyline so do use a bit more fuel. I get about 14L/100ks with generally spirited driving (12psi) and pretty much no long trips (it's all either a blast across from Hurstbridge to Laurimar or a slow shuffle around Hurstbridge, Eltham, Diamond Creek and G'boro). I'm really beginning to gel with my Stag and love it nearly as much as I did my 33. The practicality of a station wagon really is shit hot. My first car was a shaggonwagon and I fecking loved the room. Now I've got the room with comfort and performance! Winning!

1999 Hyundai Excel - $3,500
Cowboy1600 replied to Cowboy1600's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
*cough* -
The second hand market is dead, has been dead for years and will remain dead probably for ever. What I would do is find out what you'll get for a trade in and then advertise it here for a grand or two above that. You'll likely move it very quickly (as it will no doubt be very cheap) and get a couple grand more than what a dealer is willing to give you.

I want to know how it's not going to understeer into the grandstands the the first time it takes a corner in anger.

Bingo. -
Wha? Not a single reply suggests it's big ends. As has been said, previously and by you, it's likely lifter noise which was being muffled by thicker oil. It's not a big deal. You can either ignore it or go slightly thicker next time or, of course, get your lifters cleaned/replaced.

I know someone wants it. Don't make me put it on Carsales -
No one in their right mind would "expect" the car I've described, or anything similar, but it's fun to dream. You've only got to click the link in Terry's opening post to know what to expect; a rebadged POS front drive budget mobile.

1999 Hyundai Excel - $3,500
Cowboy1600 replied to Cowboy1600's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
I know someone needs a cheap, quality daily -
For sale, 1999 Hyundai Excel. Have recently upgraded in anticipation of a baby so it's for sale. 5 door hatchback. Manual Blue 220,000ks - has been owned by my wife since 13,000ks. Fastidiously maintained. Near perfect service history. The car is in amazing condition for it's age. It's had car seat covers on it it's entire life as well as car mats. The interior is spotless. The exterior in in excellent condition. Air con works perfectly. Power steering. Sony head unit. A very frugal little car. 450ks out of a tank and about $40 to fill. This car is an absolute cracker. If I didn't have a bike I'd keep it as my daily. Rego'ed till May $3,500 with RWC and remaining rego. Car is located in Hurstbridge, Vic. Contact Aaron (me) on 0418 994 629 or email [email protected] to arrange a look.

Bwahahahahaha!

Most requirements are simple sensors and an ECU capable of doing what it has to. There are no requirements for a car to have super dooper intrusion protection, 20 airbars and all that crap. The only mandatory requirement is ESC. A 5 door Hyundai Getz weighs barely over a ton, so it's not hard to keep kerb weight down cheaply. The original 1600 (with iron blocked L16 and full sized spare) was 900kgs, so add 100kg worth of modern shit to it if you must. That should be more than enough to appease the safetycrats. GIMMIE!

I think I would soil the front of my pants if they revived Datsun. Imagine a modern day 1600. I'm getting goose bumps just thinking about it. I want small (<1000kg) rwd 4 door, boxy shape and a banshee revving, quad throttle bodied, all alloy 1.6L 4 cylinder. 16 inch wheels, independent suspension at each corner, old school trailing arm out back with some geometry correction as is generally applied to 1600s now, very basic interior. Strip away as many electronics as legally possible, only two airbags. 280ishmm brakes with twin piston callipers up front and smaller single pistons out back. R180 LSD diff, big sway bars. Fuel tank underslung, a can of tyre goo instead of a spare and a boot mounted battery. Chrome bumper bars, door handles and c-pillar vents. A Venetian blind in the back window. Please Datsun, do it for me. Without doubt I would buy one on pre-order. A new 1600 is a dream come true for me.

I assume you mean this thing? If so, that's the Cam Angle Sensor. It sends a signal to the ECU so the ECU knows where the cam is during it's rotation. It's likely that it's made BY Mitsubishi, not made FOR a Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi make lots of electrical parts for other manufacturers as they are more than just a car builder. It doesn't need replacing unless it's broken. If your car is running fine then it's not broken.

I don't think much has been done with them. Oh, wait, there's this 129 page thread on them. Perhaps that will help? http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/347726-kando-dynamics-turbo/

Wha? What's a nipple for a cooler?

I concur. Anyone who assumes they are going to crash is an idiot. It's a self fulfilling prophecy. Sure, motorbikes crash easier than cars but don't ASSUME it's going to happen.
