  1. the turbo is a generic ebay "T04E" or t3/t4 if you prefer. a little larger than standard rb25 and only bush bearing. It comes on beautifully.....in fact towing the club trailer up a steep hill in the wet today I got 4 wheel spin at about 2500 when full boost came on so early lol. no plan for a different turbo, cams, injectors, anything else - this is just a daily and tow car where I figured the extra capacity would be perfect. And I'm very happy with the results.
  2. hmm may not be a bearing after all then (although you bloody deserve it if it is ) generally a big end is a rythmic knock that gets worse when you rev it (more revs = more load = more noise)
  3. yeah I did receive an invoice, and yes I personally suspect some things were missing, eg I didn't see the new smaller battery for instance. But a lot of the stuff was on an exchange basis too, so lets call it $10k + a stuffed rb25 motor including plenum and manifolds + return style intercooler. I already had the PFC, fuel pump etc. So $10k covered the forged bottom end build including sump adapter, an exchange skyline head, and chinese plenum/zorst manifold/turbo, and all the fabrication of cooler pipes, pod shield, tune etc. I thought it was time to give china's finest stuff a go and see if it can meet everyday requirements....I am far from convinced that we all need top $$$ stuff from japan for everyday builds.
  4. did you make it home OK?
  5. wrap up thread over here..... http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Te...Te-t306227.html
  6. lol. good work today everyone, I enjoyed some skids despite the shithouse weather for part of the day, and it looked like there were plenty of people enjoying the skids! good work from the camaro guys too, I think a lot of the courses were a bit tight, but man they smoke tyres and sound good.
  7. Sorry Chris...I didn't answer your question.... I had the fastest car in muscle class, but given the mods on my car I think that was good luck not good management. I would still expect to be blown into the weeds most times and I think their class rules are wrong in my case (ie they should follow CAMS to keep simple) Overall the weekend was very smooth, I like the amount of track time, and I love the mixed race formats (scratch, reverse grid and handicap). But ultimately, for me, it is not the CAMS state championships. Personally I have a car that can win the state champs but it takes ultra comittment to do so - I think I can do so one day so I will stick to it and spend and committ what I need to For people interested in fun/acheivable/affordable racing, I think irace is a great option. Oh one last thing....driving standards in muscle class were not up to scratch. Not sure what they can do about that but people need to understand that they are not racing for sheep stations....and that crashes cost everyone money. In the CAMS series we have some good processes in place to "talk" to people who don't show the appropriate understanding to their other competitors.
  8. yeah mate....I would be delighted to find something wrong in either the externals or the long motor - at least that way I would be confident I found the problem. Otherwise it's chuck the new motor in and hope it just works :| anyway...for anyone interested Irace is being broadcast tomorrow 1pm on SBS.....your chance to watch the last race meet that happened at Oran Park
  9. well like I said pad are available from most reputable brake pad makers for the AP6 piston calipers and they fit straight in. I've always used the just jap/chinese generic pads even for race use with no issues so I would stick with them as long as they are available ($500 for race pads is a good price.....things like pagid can go over $1k a set for these calipers) for discs you are stuck with the chinese factory....so D2/G4/Ksport retailers. If they disappear you would need new discs/hats/caliper adapters. Having said that I've bought 3 sets of these brakes for different cars and none have shown significant wear or cracks on the discs yet
  10. I guess you have looked at the basics and there is no leaking anywhere....from there just simple stuff like pedal or mount flexing? BMC moving? have you bled the abs? (having said that....I have never, ever needed to, but it is a possibility) I saw you bled the handbrake (definately a potential problem). No leaks at BMC or calipers? Do the caliper mounts flex? I hate brakes that are not rock solid....but have always been able to get them through proper bleeding. maybe take use through how you bled them??
  11. while overall diameter is the only thing that matters - life is much easier if you get 4 wheels and tyres the same to let you rotate them
  12. yeah pads are an easy replacement - anything to suit the AP racing 6 spot calipers will fit (very common pad size). I bought replacement pads from just jap last time I needed them. I would also contact Just Jap if I needed replacement discs....but I have not got through a set yet
  13. so how are our sau-ers going? Looks like Kel is still on the road in the mighty mx5 which is a good sign. But what is going on with snowie....entry says RICHMOND/BRISBY, and the only Brisby I know is our favourite blood nut Troy??? Was there a last minute change of plans or something? BTW on regs....no point blaming CAMS, it was AASA that came along and opened the door to significantly different regs allowing more mods. The CAMS rules have stayed pretty static and I think that's a good thing (not that I often agree with what CAMS do!) Anyone down there or got more information than just the website?
  14. and very important....us a drill press of course. Otherwise many broken drills lie ahead in your future
  15. well if that is correct, the RDA group buy on here is the place to go. I just picked up slotted front rotors $260 and (crappy) green stuff pads $150
  16. haha for sure. I threw a brick through the ute's windscreen and got it replaced. Also broke the race car's one years ago removing a rusted rear wiper As long as it's an accident.
  17. good call. bolts job is to clamp, dowel's job is to locate. should be fine
  18. OK I thought I was a fan of dodgy turbos....but that is pretty good.
  19. I just had an rb30/25 built at Hills Motorsport in Castle Hill, I am very happy with the price and result. Thread is over here: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Santa-t300855.html
  20. yeah but not unless it is broken....
  21. Hi guys, we are a fair way overbooked for this event - so those that can't make it just send me a pm saying if want a refund or credit towards the next one.
