  1. Pics are on the way kids. Just sit tight for a bit until work settles and then I'll post the pics up for you all.
  2. pentae, besides the shots on fullboost.com.au and what other photos people have taken, have a look at http://leewah.org. There are some photos there which were taken sometime ago but essentially all of it is still the same. I didn't take the path of exterior mods. I took the challenge of making a streetable car with enough power to run a 10 sec 400M. Now that I've done that, the car is for sale. In the meantime, we will be chasing the 9sec timeslip.
  3. Ok, here's the thing. I have gone through 1x OS Triple plate and 1x Ogura Triple plate and I had less than 450rwkw when we went dragging with these clutches. They simply couldn't hold the power and then slipped when they got too hot. I then consulted with some drag racers and they recommended Jim Berry up in Qld. I rang Jim and spoke to him at length about our problems and he agreed to rebuild by Ogura clutch using his special materials and rather than rebuilding the clutch as a triple plate, he was only going to building it as a twin. The clamping pressure was also raised from the 2500lbs of the Ogura to 4400lbs using Jim's pressure plate. The car has now been out on the track now with over 100rwkw more than what the previous clutches have handled and the only thing that can describe it is magic!! After about 6 runs, the clutch felt no different to the 1st run. The way the clutch has been built also allows for more slipping off the line but grips hard when in gear at full throttle. Judd is correct in saying that there is a bit of play in the clutch when power is applied allowing us to put the power down hard when required. I am of the opinion that a gearbox in our realm of power levels is only as strong as the driver allows it to be. Noone expects the box to hold up if we flatshift or try to pull the gearshift from the box. It's simply too harsh. Smooth changes and treating the box with respect will preserve the life of the box. Even expensive boxes break. Kier has busted his Hollinger on a number of occasions but that is most likely because he is pushing the box to the ultimate power levels. Another thought about boxes. You many want to give Frank Modena of Modena Engineering a call here in Melb. He maybe able to build a custom box for you. He's responsible for a lot of the internals in today's V8 supercars.
  4. Judd, When we went dragging on the weekend, we were running the car with a little less boost than at AutoSalon (it would have been closer to the 570rwkw mark). The reason as to why the car won't be running 8s or low 9s besides not using a dogbox is simply due to the fact that my car has no weight reductions. The windows are still glass, the door trimmings and dash are all still intact and the airbags are still there. The only things which have been removed are the spare tyre, amps and subwoofer from the boot and things under the bonnet to make room for the engine mods. I still run the car with the A/C system as I drive the car on the roads quite regularly. We believe that the gearbox is holding nicely as the custom built clutch is taking a lot of the stress from the box. Also, the fact that the car is still standard capacity means that we don't make the same torque numbers as Kier or Munro who run 3L bottom ends. Don't know anything bout the HKS box but I know that the Trust box strips gears under large amounts of power. The RacePace GTR (1:16 around Sandown and 11.06 quarter mile) has stripped 2nd once, 3rd twice and 4th once and it runs around the 420rwkw mark around the track. This maybe due to the 3L bottom end in it too. I'm happy with the OS box but due to it not being a dogbox I would recommend you ask Munro about the Pfiztner dogbox. He's using one in his street GTR at the mo and I hear he's quite happy with it.
  5. I'm currently running an OS Cross Mission gearset with a billet sandwhich plate in my GTR and it's holding fine. Last dyno run was at AutoSalon and my car made 617rwkw and 593awkw. I'm happy with the box and it held together fine on the weekend when we went to Heathcote.
  6. Ah well. Another day at the track. What can I say about today's efforts? I guess the only really good thing I can say about today is that the weather was good for racing. The best result today was a run of 11.03@138MPH with a 1.88 60'. Nothing to write home about but still showing a good MPH. We started the day with a high 12 and then a high 11 with a big cloud of smoke. When we lifted the bonnet, we had found the the oil cap had come loose and shot off the rocker cover to spray oil across the engine bay. Not so bad as there wasn't a huge loss of oil. The next 2 runs lead us to more trouble as there was a loss of boost somewhere undertermined. Thanks to Nige and Karl, they managed to source the problem and solve it with little trouble. The next run then lead to a problem of overheating and the Autronic cutting the engine at 7500 in second (1300 rpm before rev limit). It was found that the radiator had little to no water in it which we found strange as the fluids were all changed in the morning before heading to Heathcote. Once the radiator was filled again, it was time to hit the track again. A clean burnout lead us to belive that it was to be a solid run. The launch was fair but a big bang and cloud of black smoke in second killed the run. Marshals on the track were then picking bits up off the track. We knew this was bad The car came back and the bonnet lifted revealed that the stock radiator had blown itself to smitherins.... The cap had stayed on but the top of the radiator had cracked from one end to the other spraying fluid all over the engine bay again.... Although cleaning the oil from the first incident off, it had now left coolant all over the bay. The car was then loaded back onto the truck and we all went home in disappointment. I must give much thanks though to those who came up and supported the running of the car again. Special thanks to Gerald, Nige and Karl for getting the car together in time to race, Jack from CityWide Towing for all the efforts he's put in to getting my car from point A to point B, James for lending me his oil cap in a time of need (I promise I'll give it back soon), Des for the lending of the battery and the SAU/FA people who came up to support the car. If I've missed anyone out, please forgive me as I do appreciate the support. A new radiator and thermo fan will be ordered this week and fitted to the car shortly and we will most likely run again when I return from Japan on June 12. The 4,6 rotaries are on on June 19 so we may aim for that day.
  7. Racing is on!! We are doing a drive by the Ford Factory at 9:15 tomorrow morning. If you are not there when we go past, we will meet you up there. Sorry to post so late. Weather was the permitting factor here.
  8. If we head up, it will first thing in the morning. Planning to get there by 10 so we can prep and be racing by 10:30-11. Gives us as much time as possible to fark around if required.
  9. Don't worry if you missed it, it wasn't all that special. Most of the focus was on the Pac Performance MX6. Admittingly it is a sexy beast running 7.1 (Aust record), I wanted to see more about expert class as this is the area which is closer to home. The intro had a quick shot of GTR700 but that was really the only Skyline of note. There was another one (R33 GTS-T circuit car) from Qld built by Custom Carbon which ran a 12 sec pass. The winner of the expert class was a R31 sedan which ran a high number due to every other car dying on the line.
  10. The clutch still hasn't been done yet due to work commitments so the short answer is no.
  11. Very impressive. Congrats!! What was this car? Was it running slicks? Specs?
  12. Due to the weather of the last plannned outing, we are now planning to head out to Heathcote this weekend, 16 May. A final decision will be made on Sat afternoon when the weather report is a little more accurate.
  13. OIC. All good then
  14. WTF are you talking about?? A dyno is used in tuning a car and to a lesser extent getting power readings. What does hosting pics have to do with a dyno??
  15. Lodau, GTRs can be dynoed on 2WD dynos. If it's an R32, we simply pull out a fuse thus killing the 4wd system and putting it back in when we're done or in the case of R33 and R34s, we remove the front shaft hence stopping anything from driving the front wheels. Trust me, it works.
  16. I think I've got the Top Secret part worked now. Does anyone know of a HKS workshop I can visit and get cool merchandise from? As you now know, I'll be travelling by train, so any help is still greatly appreciated. BTW, if I catch a cab to the Top Secret factory, will the cabby speak English (Engrish) or at least know where I want to go?
  17. Mate, if anyone is getting charged double for the time spent on the dyno, it's me
  18. Ash, don't get smart or we'll charge you double!! A 4WD dyno costs double a 2WD dyno. Takes a lot of GTRs, Evos and STis to make up the outlay. If we do need a 4WD dyno, we have other places we can take the cars.
  19. NRB, It is indeed. http://www.falkentire.com/tires/st115_infopg.htm I love these tyres. I had the Bridgestone RE540s before this and they too were brilliant but the Azinis have a better value for money I reckon.
  20. Hi All, We have a new toy and it's name is DynoDynamics!! Ice Performance has now had it's big red 2WD reading machine delivered and it's ready to rumble. We are planning a Big Dyno day/BBQ very soon, so will keep you posted. Also if any of you guys want to plan a day yourselves just let us know. Call (03) 95127591 for any queries or bookings and join the Ice Performance Pyramid of Power!!!!
  21. I highly recommend the Falkan Azinis ST115. It's not the semicomp rubber but as most people won't touch the track, these are awesome. I've done plenty of twisty runs with these tyres and they held the road magnificiently. Also, in the wet, they hold the road very well.
  22. I believe it's the same as an R33, simply remove the front shaft. There is no need for expensive wanky toys unless yr drag racing and need to warm the rears up.
  23. Two Words: HARD KANDY!!!!! That'll take up most of yr weekend Start at 11:30 on Friday night and go till close on Sat morning, go back to a friend's place to chill out and recover. Sunday is then spent reminising about the fun from Friday night I'm usually there every fortnight with Wardest kicking to the beats of Scott Alert and the rest of the Kandy Krew. Ash, yr soft and will never make it to a Kandy night If you do wanna come though, gimme a hollar and we can hook up!!
  24. Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. As I'll be travelling mostly by train, are these places difficult to get to? Are they easily accessible via train or do I need to catch a taxi from the train station?
  25. As Ash has said (coz I told him ) I will be running on the weekend if the weather holds out and isn't gonna rain at all on Sunday. Even a slightly wet track in the morning won't dry fully till the afternoon and I don't travel to Heathcote to sit around and watch rain dry. Currently according to the BOM, today and Sat were looking like scattered showers and then fining up. If it doesn't fine up by late Sat arvo, we prob won't go. I will check BOM again tomorrow afternoon and check the radar and then give a post in the evening around 8ish. SLYSX, yes I am still running standard GTR shafts They may break, they may hold. I'm a strong believer in that it is as strong as the driver. If you're gentle on them, they should be fine. Dumping a clutch at 8000rpm with as much power as my car will put out isn't a good idea, standard driveline or otherwise. As for passenger runs, if we get a time we're satisfied with, there maybe some space for a couple passenger runs but you gotta take a number coz there are plenty of people queuing up before you mate. Sorry. People have been asking me for a ride since the last time we were out and I have promised some people rides as long as the target time is achieved.
