  1. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. My GTR has forged internals coz the engine was apart when we did the first big build. The standard internals should be good enough to hold around the 350rwkw mark for awhile. They could possibly hold more. GTR700 had standard internals with over 440awkw. Not sure how long they lasted though. Just remeber that the engine that burns twice as bright lasts half as long.... As for the gearbox. My standard box was fine for hold 375rwkw everyday but I changed to the OS Giken Cross Mission after we did another build and got the 446rwkw. The box is holding nicely. Smashing gearboxes isn't hard but on the other hand, if you drive sensibly, there is no reason why you should be breaking boxes.
  2. I think some of you may have the wrong impression of what the story was addressing. "But yeah... get other people into these cars and see how they far. A darn sight worse is my prediction. And i've never EVER had to use a slalom course on the street, anyone else here ever used a slalom course on the street?" It wasn't about whether people have ever had to do a slalom course on the road. It was more about how people managed and perceived themselves with a "high powered vehicle" and how the wrong mentality can bring a lot of grief to those who overestimate their abilities. Agreed that the R32 did not have 500kw. That's a fricken joke. That would mean the car has over 350kw at the treads. I know for a fact how hard it is to drive a high powered car on the street and although I'm not claiming that I'm the best driver in the World, far from it but at least I know how far I can go before I'm putting myself and others in danger and that is the reason why I don't turn up the wick until the car hits the track. There is no point driving a car with 500+rwkw on the street coz there's nowhere you can go to use the power and enjoy the exhilaration of flat sticking it before trouble comes your way. This is an email I sent TT after I saw the story first back in Sept 9 2002: Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing in regards to your story on Monday 9 September regarding "The need for speed". Not everyone who owns a Japanese sports car a hoon on the streets. You have painted us all in a bad light when it is simply a few irresponsible people giving the rest of us a bad name. When I saw your footage of the cars doing 200km/h+ and the bike doing nearly 300km/h on public roads, I found that to be very disturbing and realise why you were doing the story in the first place. The truth of the matter is that you have singled out 3 individuals who were overly confident in their driving skills and turned them into a stereotype which people will now associate with myself and fellow Japanese sports car drivers. I spend a lot of my leisure time around people who own Japanese sports cars, some stock, some modified and to this day, I have not seen any of these people break any more road rules than you would find an average person breaking on any given day. I am also a partner in a business which works on modifying, servicing and upgrading Japanese sports cars and all of our customers are 'clean' members of society. Although they may drive very fast cars, none of them brag about their driving skills like the people you had doing the training course with Ian Luff. Those 'hoons' as you describe them are simply ****y people who are too arrogant for their own good. My friends, business partners and associates spend time in this interest circle for the simple fact that we find these cars interesting and have visions of improving our cars from standard form, whether it be visibly or performance wise. I am also questioning whether you made a mistake when you stated that the man who drove the Nissan Skyline 'Godzilla' (assuming it was a GTR) had 500 kilowatts. Are you sure you didn't mean 500 horsepower. Very few road registered cars in this country have that kind of power. I only know of one of these cars in Victoria. Although my car doesn't quite have 500 kilowatts, it has been on a dynometer and measured 360 kilowatts at the wheels. After estimating drivetrain loss, we came to the conclusion that I had 470 kilowatts at the engine. 500 kilowatts although obtainable costs a lot of money and man hours to achieve. It is not something that all high performance sports cars would have. The only times I have really given my car a flat out push was at Calder Park drag strip during one of their legal off street drag meets. I believe that it is a good idea to encourage driver training for people with high performance cars and there are many places in Victoria which people can partake in training courses such as the Jim Murcott Driving School and DECA training days. Maybe if you publicised this kind of training, not so many people would be having accidents due to lack of experience and training. My 2c worth.

    Calling Rezz

Hey Rezz, Do you trade out of a shop or do you only trade online? If so, are you in Tokyo? My GF left this morning for Tokyo for 2 weeks and I want her to bring back some goodies for me. If you do have a shop which she can visit, can please provide the details as I'd like her to pick up some various GTR nick nacks for me like a Zippo lighter (r33), polo shirt and a jacket. Also a phone number would help incase she gets lost. Any help would be appreciated.
  6. There are no real drawbacks of using modifed stock cam gears. As long as they have been machined and the plates are put on with the correct markings, there shouldn't be any problems. There isn't all that much stress put on the gear itself except wear and tear from the belt.

    New to Vic!

Hey MRGTST32, Welcome to the forums. The contact details for Ice Performance are below. You will speak to either Gerald or Nigel. If noone answers, please leave a message and someone will call you back. I don't actually work at the factory but I am a part owner in the business and in frequent contact with them so if you need anything in particular, let me know. As for cruising, everywhere is cool to cruise, especially down your way. The drive from Flinders to Portsea is awesome as is Arthur's Seat and around Red Hill as mentioned by others.
  8. I, like Jameszilla am under 30 although approaching at a rapid rate of knots. I was 25 when I got my GTR and had it paid off by 27.
  9. Work hard and save every cent. The price of R33 GTRs have dropped quite a bit since I bought mine 2 years ago. You can get a clean one for about 40k these days.
  10. Stock GTR plenum is fine. Most people with high HP change to a JUN or Trust plenum for the single throttle body which makes tuning a lot easier. I am still running a stock plenum and made 526.3rwkw on my GTR recently.
  11. Is Drag Combat ANDRA sanctioned? Essentially, am I going to need to install a roll cage and chute on my car in order to race? What other requirements are there in regards to fire extinguishers, fireproof clothing etc? I don't want to bring my car up from Melb to find out I can't run,
  12. Looks good. The white rims really emphasised how big the profile the tyre was. The new thicker spokes give the rim more body. Top job!!
  13. Hey Rezz, Thanks for the info mate. It's been a great help. One thing though, there is no payment option for credit card, nor can they ship OS. This would mean that they will only take a money order (or equivalent) or internet transfer? Is this what you've experienced? Also, since they don't ship OS, I'm assuming that they can only deliver to Japanese addresses. Hope it doesn't take to long otherwise the GF will be on her way back by the time the stickers arrive.
  14. Does anyone know where in Tokyo specifically where someone can purchase RH9 stickers? My GF is heading over next week and I want her to bring some goodies home for me including RH9 stickers just incase some day I actually get there and can put 1 on my car. If anyone does know, I'd really appreciate it. Keeping in mind she is a girl and has no idea about where things are, if an address and closest large landmarks could be included, it would be greatly appreciated.
  15. Did I hear someone mention Bar 20???? WooHoo!! I've got lifetime membership now due to my oil wrestling days of which I have now retired from. It was a brief career of 1 fight with 1 win (in my opinion). 100% win rate. I like those odds. James, while you're hooking up my buddy Ed, you got anymore on the side there??....
  16. Hehehehe. Love the quote!!! I don't even remember posting that....
  17. Well said Wardest. It's been a pleasure being your mate again for another year. Let's hope there are plenty more ahead of us. Anything I can do to help, you know you can count on me mate.
  18. What Snowman said was correct. Run 1 - Clutch slipped at the top of 2nd and in 3rd, I came off the gas to save the car. Mid 12. Run 2 - Launch sucked big time and heard a pop at about 5500 in 3rd so I came off the gas again. Low 12. Run 3 - Driven by Nige, stuck the launch brilliantly, awesome change to 2nd and then slippage in 3rd so he backed off. Best of 10.7@132MPH. Last time we headed out, we managed a max of 140MPH so there is some potential in the car. Just need a clutch that can hold it. I am currently in investigations to whether I should go a quad plate or a carbon triple. More details to come soon.
  19. Yes, I rob banks everyday for a living while also contracting professional hits. On a side note, I lead US investigators to the capture of a recently dethrowned dictator which had a fairly decent paycheck. On Wednesdays, I whore myself out in St Kilda. Look out for a "girl" named Monica. I love you long time....
  20. I won't be attending anymore as have family commitments Also, I don't have the time atm to go the factory to refit my headlight after Sundays racing.
  21. I will try to make it down with my puppy and whack it on the dyno to compare the BMT dyno to the RacePace dyno.
  22. Generally speaking, if the accident occured in Sth Yarra, the pedestrian would have been taken to the Alfred as it is the closest. If you got their name, you can just ring the hospital, explain the circumstances and get a condition report.
  23. The same thing happened to me a few years back on a Friday raining night outside Q Bar which is pretty damn close to where you were. FREAKY!! Anyways, I was heading outbound down the hill on Toorak Rd doing bout 50 coming up to the lights and a few guys stepped out infront of a parked taxi and saw me coming so they stepped back. Before I knew it, a chick had tried to bolt across the road and ran straight into the side of my car and hit the A piller crashed into my windscreen which spiderwebbed nicely. The momentum of the car carried her all the way into the middle of the the Toorak Rd and Chapel Street intersection where she rolled off and I braked hard swerving to the right and stopping 2 ft from the traffic lights and barrier infront of the NAB. She was taken off in an ambulance to the Alfred with a concussion and a few broken ribs and collar bone. After witnesses were questioned, statements and breathaliser tests taken I was allowed to leave without a hassle. I called the Alfred on the Sunday and they said that she had been moved from ICU to a recovery room and she would be fine. About 2 weeks later, I received a phone call from the RTA saying that this woman was going to sue me for damages as she thought it was my fault. Feeling kind of confused about the whole thing as to how it is my fault that a pedestrian had run into my car was beyond me but the RTA said that they wanted to represent me and also advised that I counter-sue as the woman had tested .19 BAC and also had traces of prohibited substances in her body when she got to the hosiptal. Needless to say that the case didn't make it to court as I think she realised that she was gonna come out of this one second best and would have to pay for the court costs as well as repairing my car. I got rid of the car a couple months later as it was a really bad memory I didn't want anything to do with anymore. Even though it was entirely her fault, the fact that you have hurt another person in that way is quite disturbing. SKYL9, I hope it all works out for you.
