  1. hehe yep happened to me the other day, driving down a back street doing 50 in 3rd gear (60zone) some old guy walking with his wife yells 'slow down' i looked around to see who he was talking to but was only me around... they are just embaressing themselves with thier lack of knowledge...
  2. It won't happen. Deaths/injuries/accidents aren't caused by exceeding 100kms/h. Most of them are people doing 80 in a 60k zone etc.... How will they stop people doing 130k/h in a 40k an hour school zone? i think certain people need to think before they speak.
  3. I've driven probably 1000ks on this new gearbox, so don't think its a running in issue - thanks anyway... I spoke to exedy, they recon it is the box, gearbox guy recons its the box, mechanic recons its the box... who knows... I can't logically think it could be the thrust bearing - maybe if it was a push type clutch, but not a pull type - there is noething for it to rub against etc... and the load on the thrust is when you push the clutch pedal down... which is when my noise goes away... doesn't make sense... but we'll see...
  4. 4500 for a brand new gearbox for a gtst ? I only paid 3300 inc GST for my brand new R33 GTR gearbox from nissan....
  5. easier and cheaper to buy a gtst than convert a gts, you'll have to change the brakes/wheel hubs to 5 stud, which also means new wheels etc... and get it engineered, and i think most people just swap the whole engine for a gtst one rather than mess around with the N/A one, so probably not as cheap as you imagined.
  6. A quick google, shows up this: http://www.street-line.net/seats/Nismo.htm
  7. Took it to the gearbox place today, he said he's 99.9% sure that it is the gearbox, So i'm gonna get the box taken out of the car and deliver it to nissan..... see what they can do
  8. Ait: did you change the thrust with the new clutch? That wav file may make it sound a little worse than it is (it is bad...) but the recording was taken from outside/under the car so probbaly sounds a little worse than it does in real life, but its certainly not a quiet whine... I'm taking it to a gearbox place that my mechanic uses today to let them have a listen, see what they say.
  9. What thrust bearing did you use in your car Al? do you still have the part number?
  10. theres no problem with the clutch disengaging, it shifts fine, no crunching, no struggle with the shift, its just the noise - mainly in neutral...
  11. pred: i think your thinking of a push type clutch, we have pull type in R33 GTR's... the box feels fine, shifts smooth as a freshly waxed......box when its in neutral its fine, its just the noise, and sometimes the clutch pedal feels like it hesitates or something, hard to explain and i can't replicate it when i want so no one else has experienced it in the car with me... Al: Who else have you heard/seen of having this problem? How long have you had your clutch? I didn't put the box in so no idea baout re-adjusting the clutch take up point - what will this do?
  12. THe copper spark plugs are fine - its what i choose to use.. just change them every 10,000ks... may be worth gapping to .8mm rather than 1.1mm
  13. jimbo: 180 each for 265/35/18?
  14. Al - i woudn't mind meeting up with you someone to have a listen to your clutch and have a word about it - drop me a PM if you're free in the near future... What makes you think its an excedy thing? I don't know if i belive that since it was perfect (no noise) in my old box, then i put new box in and it has the noise, bit of a co-incedence(sp?)
  15. check the wear on your tyres, if they are uneven rear to front (or different sizes) it will cause your torque split to play up...
  16. im no expert... the more camber and/or toe you put on for better performance expect to loose out on tyre wear.. depends what you want more, handling or tyre wear... handling - ie track, then as much neg camber as you can put as much postive castor on as you can as well... toe i've been told to stay pretty neutral, think i have a tiny bit of toe on the rear, none on the front.
  17. I'd be a bit worried about putting different treads/worn tyres on front and rear of a GTR, it may end up playing with your torque split, keep an eye on it.... But yeah i only found out about that 2nd hand tyre place a couple of months ago, i'll be trying them out next time around.
  18. I remember when i was looking at them i was told you can get them direct from Nissan... can't remember how much, but around the $300 mark sounds right.. this is the kit to convert from push to pull right?
  19. HKS-R33: Ask your dad if it is the thrust bearing?
  20. ummm whines a little when driving, only when your just lightley on the throttle otherwise engine noise drowns out any whine..
  21. Don't know what a dogbox sounds like
  22. I showed Dean from UPI the noise, he seems to think its the thrust bearing since aftermarket clutchs like my twin plate generally use a smaller thrust bearing since the hole in the fingers is smaller... he's not certain but said that would be what he would do first.. I tend to agree, since when i put my clutch in i changed the thrust bearing which i got ordered from nissan, i think i was given the part number from the guy i bought the clutch off... the thrust bearing that came with the gearbox (that is in it now) is for a standard clutch... does anyone know anything about this? http://gtr.ferni.net/misc/whine.wav there is a (bad) recording of the noise, you can hear when i push my clutch in because the noise stops... (this is from outside the car)
  23. ferni

    EPA anyone?

the cops will get you no matter what, its what they belive not what you have, best bet is to stay away from the city and try not to drive it on fri/sat nights and pub hols, and after some bad press on skylines, ie some dimwit dragging and crashing on the princess
  24. Whats your number? I don't have it anymore...
  25. It can be the thrust bearing thats fine with me because they delivered a brand new one with the gearbox, so thats thier fault... My old gearbox made the same noise, but not as bad when i first got it, then when we changed the clutch from the excedy heavy duty to this excedy twin place, and changed the thrust bearing to a new one the noise went away... i was happy... now when i've changed the gearbox and the thrust bearing its come back, twice as bad....
