  1. I showed a friend the noise today, he knows a bit about Cars, not skylines in particular, but he thought it was the clutch.... And thats got my thinking, what if it isn't the gearbox, what if it is the clutch, or something to do with the gearbox install.... could either of these things cause this noise?
  2. the guy at nissan ferntree gully called me this arvo, tried telling me that Nissan said it may be normal for the gearbox's in this car to make running noise, i was honest and said that i had heard a little bit of running noise in mine and other r33 GTR's but you had to listen for it, where as this running noise in mine is louder than the engine! He said ok then, and to bring it in on Monday morning they need it for a week and will get it stripped down and looked at... so hopefully it gets sorted out from here.. but who knows... Out of interest - anyone else have any whining/running noise in thier R33 GTR gearbox? if so how loud?
  3. Who was the car sold to? and if you want to answer how much did you let it go for?
  4. How much is your WRX worth there? How much is this R33 worth there? Are you doing a LHD conversion or can you drive it as a RHD? It would be good to own an R33 in the states since they are so rare, but also means finding someone to work on it, and trying to source parts may be a lot harder than your WRX.... that and its 8 years older than your WRX... Don't belive the miles on the car either, it is probbaly a lot more What do you want the car for? racing? daily driving? dragging? etc...
  5. I think the tape on the headlights make it look mean raid will be more trouble than its worth for you, and not much performance gain, its best used with scsi stuff in servers
  6. torque was the worst movie ever, i want my bandwidth back!
  7. does it happen when you brake and/or turn without going up a gutter /driveway etc? If it seems to mainly happen when going up a driveway, or over a speed hump etc.. could be something to do with the suspension, what does the squeek sounds like? Does it sound like a bolt/nut undo'ing from being really tight? if so maybe a nut/bolt not tight enough etc... play around with it, see if you ca narrow it down.
  8. ylwgtr2: Any luck with your contact at Nissan ?
  9. remove the gearbox, they weigh a lot and they just break anyway
  10. 10,000rpm, 15,000rpm are spin speeds of the drives, the faster generally the better, scsi doesn't use your cpu where ide does, but like i said, unless your doing lots of video capture stuff then the fast hard drive isn't worth it... and yes stay away from raid in your sitch... with 3d, cpu and ram is more important than hard drive since its all calculations not huge files.... as said above, LCD's aren't that good outside thier native resolution, where CRT's are fine as long as they support it why are you going for dual monitors?
  11. If your using MAYA and stuff for your 3D, make sure they suppor the graphics card you buy or you will regret it, it will crash all over the shop... as for rendering, you want the specs in a powerful CPU and at least 1GB of quick DDR ram, if you can afford it then 2GB would be good, run it in dual channel... Rendering hard drive speed won't matter so much, but video editing it will, if your going to be capturing and editing video, buy some good 10,000rpm hard drives, or pick up some 2nd hand 15,000rpm scsi drives and just have a normal 7200rpm ide drive for storage... raid i wouldn't bother with, it will be more trouble than its worth to someone who doesn't know the ins and outs of it... not sure why you want dual monitors... i'd just get a big single, 21" flat screen CRT's are nice, or if you prefer LCD then a 19" one of those... personal preference....
  12. 225/50/R16 is the stock size i think right? on 18x9s (my wheels) stock size was 245/40/18 i could of gone 245/40/18 or 255/35/18 or 265/35/18 I found out 265 would probably be to much sidewall flex, which would be ok on a gtst for a luanch but on a 4wd gtr, you dont need tht left you want a good stiff sidewall... thats my opinion, go fro 225 or 235 on yours
  13. Add another to the list, hankook k104 ... got them on my gtr in 255/35/18, they are a good tyre for the road, i'm happy with them and will buy them again, 1200 i paid for the set, should be alot cheaper in your size.
  14. One of the GTR's i test drove was burgandy, but i'd probably say i've seen less burgandy GTR's than any other colour, lots of burgandy gtsts tho
  15. Troy: That would be appreciated mate, I'll drop you a PM with my contact details if you want to contact me directly or if you want to find out any more info or pass them onto your nissan contact... thanks again
  16. Call and leave a message if he doesn't answer and/or sms and let him know he has till 3pm today to make contact with you before you take this to his bank and the police... If you want i'll call/sms him and leave the message?
  17. ben: yeah haven't paid, and if it was me directly with them i'd do exactly what you said, dump it on their doorstep and say 'fck you very much' but unfortuantly its through my mechanic who i'm friends with and it would hurt his relationship with them, which i don't want to do... but he's sticking up for me and said he wont give them a cent till this is sorted and we're happy with it... I'm thinking of calling Consumer affairs and just sussing out what rights i have... And am definatly going to call Nissan head office feedback/customer service... see where i can get to from there... while they are doing what they can for the next week or whatever... but if they want my car off the road again for more than a day, they can damn well give me a loan car, they had thier chance with this 3 days i gave them! Very interesting to hear that blackburn nissan advised him to put a heavy duty clutch in at the time when they replaced the box... might have to use that one.
  18. As some of you know i blew my gearbox recently and decided to go for a new one Nissan... My mechanic ordered one from his nissan parts contact at Ferntree Gully Nissan, got it the next day (they had 3 in stock!), he installed it, this was around the 1/10... put vmx80 in it, all good... The day i got it back i noticed i had a whining noise coming from it, that went away when you pushed the clutch in... Organised a time to show my mechanic to get him to listen, make sure it wasn't me going crazy, he confirmed it shouldn't be doing it and checked the basics like it had enough oil in it etc... All fine he didnt know why it was doing it, suspected the input shaft bearing... said its wierd since its a brand new box (and it was it came in a box, and had no marks on it etc..) So he called his contact at Nissan Ferntree Gully, expalained what was happening... he booked it in to get it checked out, strip down the gearbox fix it and put it back together, said it may take 3 days or so, booked it in for 26/10 (Tuesday just gone)... i dropped it off tuesday morning, showed the guys there the sound it makes, very easy to hear in neutral inside or outside the car, and its very whiny in 1st/2nd and 5th, 3rd and 4th its probably there but just harder to hear since there is more engine/exaust noise... Left it with the guys at nissan, he said he didn't know how long it would take and he'd call me when he hears anything... I let it go till this morning (thursday) when i still hadn't heard anything.. call up the guy (Barry) i dropped the car off to... he's not in, so left a message for him to call me back... Wait 30mins, no call back, so i call back, get the same guy i spoke to he said he gave the message to Barry, but he will chace it up himself... and call me back in 10mins.. i wait 30mins no call, so i call back get ANOTHER person who tells me the car is ready to be picked up... So i called my mechanic and asked him to call there and check out what they did to fix it... He does and calls me back, they haven't touched the FCKING CAR in 3 days.. they drove it on day 1, stalled it at every set of lights, and said it can't be a standard clutch, so that voids the warrenty, you fat fcks.... after i get off hte phone with my mechanic, i get a call from the guy who said he'd call back in 10mins (Rick) explaining the same thing to me and apologizing for no one calling me etc... i expalined it has made the noise since it went in brand new, so how could hte clutch have anything to do with it, if it had of been 6months down the track and i stripped 3rd then fair enough blame the clutch... but this box was delivered to me ****ed... he said he didn't know that and that he'll see what he can do with that.... but for now to come pick up the car if i want since they won't be able to do anyting for at least a week... I go down there, speak to him he apologizes for the stuff up with nothing happening to the car in 3 days... and that he will do everything he can to get nissan to fix this etc.. but he can't promis anything... i explain how frustrated i am with the whole sitch.. and to look at it from my point of view, i bought a brand new gear box from nissan, that is delivered to me ****ed but i dont find out till i've paid my mechanic to install it... then i put my self out by leaving hte car at nissan for 3 days where it jsut sits there with no calls to me and when i chase it up i get told sorry warrenty is void because out shit**** mechanics keep stalling it... he said he'll do what he can over the next week and has booked it in for in a couple of weeks, and hopefully nissan will come to the party and fix it... how ****ed is that... how much ****ing around have i been through, and this was the exact thing i wanted to avoid by getting brand new.... so pissed off... What do i do now? Call consumer affairs? Call Nissan headoffice feedback/customer service and explain it to them? there's no way i'm letting them get away with this the gearbox hasn't been paid for yet by my mechanic its on his account and he avoided paying it for this exact reason.... anyone know anyone in nissan?
  19. When ben tuned your car Heath he said anything under 60 not to worry about...
  20. The ebay account will be stolen/hijacked/hacked hence the feedback...
  21. I had this problem with a cadence amp in my skyline, changed from a cheap alpine to a better/more powerful cadence, and couldn't get rid of the whine, so went back to the alpine I also know some spark plugs without the 'R' in the model number cause whine... worth checking
  22. Never heard of these mods, interesting Anyone else tried them? any feedback?
  23. R33 GTS and GTSt, look the same, same body, same interior, same stock body kit, only visible difference AFAIK is the gtst sticker on the back of a gtst and 4 stud wheel hubs on the GTS where GTSt has 5 stud.
  24. So did you get your stuff adz?

That website is NSW, different in VIC, but there is a number you can call that can run a search on the VIN for you, and give you a insurance policy/statement against it being repossesed etc, cost about 20 bucks or free if you dont want the statement.... look on vicroads website or call them and ask for the number
