  1. Here is the results, all fine except high levels of silicon. Which they said were most likely silicon sealant used in assembly or dust that went in when i built engine. I have to do another 100kms on the oil and send another sample to see the trend. everything else he said was fine. A big thumbs up to oilcheck in sydney. Sent friday, results tuesday morning. win. So im pretty happy there's no bad metals running around in there. I guess the silver flakes were zinc off the hinges as i suspected. I will be able to sleep again. Anyone have input?
  2. I have a brand new alloy radiator i think is for an r32 i have a 33 and only realised a year later when trying to fit. ill try find out. its about 40mm thick. pm me if your interested
  3. the big ones are fine to link, as to the small one im not 100% does it come from a similar place in the water jacket compared to stock turbo feed? if that makes sense. all would depend if you got enough flow through it maybe someone else can confirm
  4. Does the rb20 filter mount have the relief valves?? and are they 85psi ones?
  5. Id be plumbing the lines back into each other so you dont air lock the system. Are you keeping the throttle body heater line?
  6. Why not just put on the rb20 filter thing? i havent but iv been told to do that.. bolts straight up. No oil warmer anymore...
  7. It is an emission issue, air escaping thats been metered = more fuel which means rich which means carbon. Well in NSW anyway its an actual fine not just defect. Not sure about vic
  8. Sounds like a big leak to me, or loose belt, but gas leak more like, see if there's any black burn/carbon marks coming out where manifold bolts to head. Just sounds like it (reciprocates) every engine fire/ second rotation
  9. Really? that sucks...
  10. Id be putting a new pump in, the reason they would have burt is too much load or current from pump. Or a dodgey connection? cheap insurance
  11. Cheers mate, post up pics of yours when you do please :-) Im hoping for no really bad news anyway. I gotta drive it for 60kms tomorrow and needs to be freshly stopped when oil is drained for test
  12. Anyone else got opinions on the pics? oil test sample is leaving tomorrow
  13. Sorry man, didnt read this post again. Go to http://www.helcarkits.co.uk/ Pay with paypal. I retract about 5 days postage though lol im still waiting as customs knocked it back the first time
  14. Hell yeah, but im not sure its panic stations yet, considering the amount of shit in filter greatly reduced, i wont head to tuners again till i get oil sussed out, but i think ill keep running it in a such (10psi should be around 220-240kw going off dyno chart) which is actuator spring pressure and once iv done several hundred kms ill dump oil (redline 15w/50) and put new stuff in and recheck the next filter.. If the amount of rubbish was increasing however, id be packing it
  15. Ok, ill be doing analysis, but the company that did my crank and block said the filter paper looked relatively normal, apart from the black carbon stuff, however there was not really any black stuff just a bit of silver and a few bigger flakes of whatever it is the second time. Bearings were individually blue printed and thrust bearing clearanced etc, so I see no reason for it to be crank bearings breaking down here- not to say definately however. The content in filter reduced by huge amounts the second time though. I guess the good side is the filter is doing its job. I remember my first build the oil came out like glitter the first time, but it turned out the bores were half a thou tight at bottom and crank not measured or anything. It was badly glittered though lol.
  16. Crank was hot washed after being blueprinted, all the slugs were drilled and tapped so that was all spotless, i cleaned block thoroughly, keep in mind I did this in my workshop at home, so not a cleanroom. Head was totally disassembled and cleaned after being drilled out and drains ground, using petrol sprayer and compressed air. Keep in mind I made my sump huge (7.5L not including cooler) and although I washed it well there may be shit from there but i doubt it, only thing i recon the shiny flakes may be the zinc coating off the hinges i used in the sump? not sure why it'd be coming off though...
  17. Oh so it looks that bad?
  18. Note these are the dirties bits of the paper
  19. Jez it was a few days. I wound up till oil pressure present then fired it, but cam oil galleries were obviously still empty. Stupid but easy mistake. Please see attached pictures The 3 dirty ones are of the filter that did the first 50 kms, the cleaner ones did the next 50. There were a few big shiny's which im near positive are zinc plating off hinges. There was a bit of glistening in oil that was in filter, the oil in sump is spotlessly clean but. Does this look like a normal amount of shit? The black stuff feels and looks like carbon, have no idea where from though. Will still do oil analysis but is this normal?
  20. I assembled everything in oil, but i didnt realise the head channels would take a bit to fill. As stated above i already checked the cam bearings and they were fine. still had oil on them. Obviously it wasn't good for anything but the cams and bearings were unharmed
  21. Advice taken, I cleaned everything spotless as, but just didnt think to flush the turbo out. Im betting on the shiney being zinc coming off the hinges i used in sump baffles and gates. And the oil on dirty side of filter had some micro sparkles, but the oil on clean side is spotlessly clean, all the crank was blueprinted and bores were all clearanced etc etc, however i had a problem when i first assembled engine cranked it till i had oil pressure, plugged up cas, fired, and holy rattly, and then squeel. Was the cam bearing squeeling running dry as head channels hadn't filled up. So i pulled cam bearing caps thinking it'd be all bound up and totalled, and it was undamaged. it had a small amount of like alloy powder type stuff that obviously wore off but i stopped it in time. I guess thats where the sparkles are from? and the bigger shiny's i think should be zinc? your thoughts? thanks for the input
  22. My thermo clutch fan has been running flat out since I put my engine back in, it used to work great and come on only when hot, but since it was out for 2 months lying face down its howling all the time, did lying it face down do something and/or why is it doing this? Thanks people
  23. Didnt clean turbo out, didnt know i should? also i made the sump bigger and now i think of it some of the sparkles may be off the zinc plated hinges i used in sump? i flushed the warmer out with petrol and compressed air and i havent got oil cooler yet waiting for new one to arrive. Do you have details of an analyser ? cheers
  24. Yeah crank had slugs drilled and hotwashed after it was linished.. So this is normal?
  25. Hi all, new engines done about 50 kms so i pulled the filter to remove the shit that was in there from build. I had engine as clean as i could in my workshop when i built it and iv never cut up an oil filter before so i did this time, had a fair bit of black crap in it like carbon? was some on piston tops when assembled (used old pistons, measured spot on) also there was some sparkles and a few bits of tiny paint chips, and a few bits of a metal (alloy possibly) that were prob half a mm in diameter and ultra thin, like prob a thou. Seeing as iv never cut one up, is it normal for first filter considering i didnt assemble in a dust room?
