  1. Good thread, its probably already been said, but to chime in, this needs to go further than older members. If only older members work on it then all that happens is older drivers become "enthusiasts" and everyone younger than N is a hoon. Points i like here... the enthusiast stickers, charity runs for those affected by reckless drivers/drunk drivers etc. One thing i'd like to see, although it would be damn hard to police, is a zero tolerance approach to members who get done for extreme traffic crimes. If becoming a member meant adhereing to a standard, and deviating from that standard mean being stripped of membership for a year or two, being a member of SAU would be, to some extent, a badge showing that your not just a hoon. As mentioned... really hard to police, its not like we get reports from police or the courts when someone gets nicked for gross stupidity or anything. But it could be a start if anyone caught doing dumb crap at an SAU event is no longer welcome at any future events... atleast not as a driving member. I guess what i'm saying is, to make a difference you have to differentiate yourself, else some will call you hypocrites. Once you stand obviously separate from the mobs you can claim the higher ground and gain respect. and finally... i'm happy to help in anyway.
  2. you own a 33gtst. your looking at a 33gtr... they're not THAT different both rb's, both nissans, similar years so what your asking is, how does one well engineered nissan compare to anoither excellently engineered nissan? Answer... they're great and very similar, they drive differently, as they have different configurations, and oddly enough, the one with more complex parts is a little more expensive to maintain.
  3. regarding speaking to someone who understand japanese, i couldnt agree more. Whilst i use pimsleur (listen ot it on the train etc etc) it is a major set back if you cannot practice it with someone. If you know any japanese people, speak to them, if not sign up to a course. If your in a real pinch, find someone else who's learning it and practice talking to them.
  4. plenty of NA stages out there. Look for the vq35de models, i'm assuming that 3.5L 6's are still p plater legal. welcome to sau btw.
  5. is it just me or do all mods for the 35 seem to fit the same pattern of costing lots but not having any empirically evidence of actual improvement. Plenum spacers, pod filters (sorry pop chargers) with dubious partitions, throttle adaptors, ztubes etc. It all seems like the 350 world is drunk on american forum bred stupid. That said, i could just be biased, before the v35 i had a gt25t (still have it). mods for that seemed logical, documented and tested with real results. Admittedly FI made power gains far easier to acheive. It seems to me that unless you want to spend big bucks on major engine work or FI for the v35, save your cash for handling mods.
  6. been doing some reading on rb30's lately... seems the average rpm limit is approx 7k, not exactly high revving. According to places like wikipedia (not the foremost experts in the field) 10k can be acheived with a lot of balancing. So, given that the 30 block can be bought cheap, 26 head for lets say 3 grand (not sure what you'd use for an rb30 na to tbh... 25de head?? 1.5k?)... rods and pistons for lets say another 1.5 grand. thats 4.5k fore bits leaving 5.5k for all labour, prep work AND balancing. Not sure how far 5.5k-6.5 will get you in those terms.
  7. My take.... I work in IT... have done since finishing school... doing well and earn good money... but i'm bored bat sh!t and theres only so far i can go and stay at the pointy end... and each year the work force gets younger... so i cant keep up forever. I've been offered the possibility of doing accountancy and heading towards a CPA... guarenteed work for an establish accountancy firm and possibly the business should the boss retire in a few years time. Accountancy doesnt interest me... but money does and only working hard for 1/2 to 3/4 of the year sounds good to me too (this is the pattern that the current boss works). It would mean that at the end of the day i'm doing a job that i dont find super excitring... but the fact that i'm doing that now is also becoming apparent. What is exciting tho, is that instead i could be working a job with great money.. and plenty of time to go out and enjoy life and its perks. Greed is a great motivator... but many people place a high importance on enjoying your job. I've come to beleive that there will always be a day when you become bored of your job, and you cant always swap careers... Sometimes, if you have something that will set you up and let you get on with enjoying all things in life that ARENT work.... its worth doing. even if it is boring.
  8. Headlights up for sale?? if so can you pm me a close up pic and a price??
  9. yeah but i'm pretty sure you are allowed to drive an unregistered car to a place specifically for work related to its repair and road worthiness aslong as it is withing a certain distance of the origin. cant recall the details
  10. There are... but another option (one i took) is to go look for the pimsleur japanese language course on one of those totally legit software distribution sites...
  11. Looking at going to japan towards the end of this year, start of next. Wondering whats on when car wise so i can take it into account when i plan things out. Anyone know of a event calendar for car related stuff (autosalon, carshow, JGTC or drift events etc etc)? cheers Simon
  12. Hi all, This might be one for chris but i'll throw it out there to all of you just incase. I have a 06 350gt premium, was told by the mrs today that for the past 2 days its been refusing to play or eject cd's from the 6 stacker. bastard things got some of my favorite NIN cd's in it too. Anyone know of a quick way of fixing this or getting the cd's out without stuffing things further?? Cheers Simon
  13. Bah! it wasnt a stupid question, it was quite straight forward really. Thanks to all of you who offered useful responses. Security : yup i have that noted, i'm angling for a 31 block as they're the same spec but i suspect they'd have copped less abuse than a vl. Deano, fair call... i havent bothered contacting them yet, i was trying to avoid dealing with someone who has a commercial interest in money making, a few lads on here have had some lying around and have let them go for very low prices. MizSxy I've never been able to bring myself to buying parts off ebay, it gives me the willies.
  14. I'm still considering options when it comes to buying mine. I've asked around the forum and had mixed luck. I have one option to buy one, but the guy has some parts for it to i feel i should take if i buy it, but i dont know if i want the same parts yet. Someone suggested pick and pay less, but i never feel like i can trust them to give me an ok deal. Someone said they can have a look around for me if needed (so a maybe) and one person suggested buying a 31 (further up this thread) this is the option i'm favoring as i want to strip down the engine for a learning experience, but i'm pushed for space atm and dont know where i can stick while pulling the engine and dont know where to store it while i find a way of disposing of it. So there are plenty of blocks out there.... it just depends what your willing to do to get it.
  15. for an rb30 block??? your dreaming, i can get a whole r31 for $500
  16. Starting a build, and i'd prefer to avoid buying a whole r31 So who's got a r31 rb30 block or engine and wants to part with it? and yes i tried the wtb thread
  17. Nice I have some stanley kit at home already and its served well. Anyone care to comment on engine stands?? How heavy is an rb30 with your average bells and whistles attached. a 500kg one should be enough shouldnt it?
  18. yeah but Dusko's guilty of everything... mainly of driving a ford.
  19. fine for 45km over if convicted in court... 2200 max fine and 6month min loss of license. Get a lawyer, trust me it will cost you the same as the fine, but you wont do the time if he's any good. dont risk it on your own. Do you have the cops statement? does it id your car type or just the rego? oh and there's no jury for these appearences... just a judge
  20. RESURRECTION!!! you still making and selling these mate?
  21. Hi all, Nice easy one here. I'm looking at building up the tool box so i can get cracking on an engine build (first one ever). A few things i already have, some i have on the shopping list others i have no idea. Looking for peoples recommendations for various tools and manufacturers. Some specific things i'm interested in are Engine stands - who by, from where how heavy and how much? Torque wrenches - same deal And further to this, what other tools have you found indespensible? and where do you go to shop for them in general?
