Not to say that you shouldn't go for a rex or skyline etc, but for around the $15-17k mark, i'd be looking at a VS senator before a VR.

Now I havent been in a VR senator (i have been in a VR SS) but I have been in a VS Senator, and the build quality difference from the vr-vs series is phenomenal.

FIY: Did a quick search and carsales has a few VS senators going for between 14-17k with around 140 XXX k's on the clock.

Here are a few:

1) 95, White, 5spd, 151xxx, $14,900

2) 95, panther mica, 140xxx, Auto :nyaanyaa: , $15,500

3) 95, Cherry black, 189xxx, Auto, $15,900

The holden performance market (ie HSV) seems to have died in the arse since the LS1 and now LS2's have come out. Not to mention very competitive imports coming in, in both price and performance, build etc.

Having said all that, out of your choices I'd probably go for a nice S2 R33 GTS-T. Fantastic car with a wealth of knowledge, parts, support etc.

Just my 2c

Having owned both, the V8's are toquey as anything, but chew through the fuel. Comfortable though, heaps of legroom, glovebox room, boot space... the Skylines have none of that.

mine does!

My opinion is a bit biased, but you could always get a 180sx or a 180sx Type-X in that price range. If it's the earlier model, then for around 18-19k you could very well pick one up that has 200rwkw+

without doubt buy an R33.

you'll have plenty of time later in life to drive around family 4 seaters and local crap, and there is only so much modding you can do to a commodore before you resort to neons/catseyes/clear taillights....

R33 all the way

there was a black 180sx locally that pumped out 260rwkw... was good till i found out the guy has had about 5 smashes in it...

silvias and 180sx's etc arent my thing... probably too much NFSU2 :(

ive had someone send me a pm of their car for sale and its awesome! so ill probably end up with an r33 gtst :( keep coming with the idea tho.

and hsv dont do much performance at all except for exhaus and cai... $30k more for a bodykit a few minor mods and leather seats? i dont think so pal. bring bacj the strokers like in the vr/s senators. i cant afford one of them tho...

I think 65rwkw, BUT only weighs about 700kg

A typical standard-ish R33 has a power(rw) to weight ratio of about 9.3kg/kw

This Cappacino has a power(rw) to weight ratio of about 10.7kg/kw

So it wont bet a R33 in a straight line, but on the track and motokana's it is a different story (due to it's size and low centre of gravity).

PS: It has only been on the track ONCE, but was overtaking a few typical R33's

Note: power(rw) = power reading taken from the rear wheels

haha nice, i can imagine it would give some ppl a surprise :(

mine does!

Dude =-]

If your glovebox and boot are the same as in a coupe, then you obviously haven't been in a Commodore for a while. I could comfortably sit cross-legged in my boot (wiring up an amp) and easily fit three full-size suitcases.

The glovebox held a 36-CD wallet, sunglasses case, medium size CB radio, and some candy. Now I just have loose discs in there and a few papers.

Even though you've got a 4-door, i'll wager that my old VP Berlina had more rear legroom than your car does. My tallest of friends could sit back there, with the front seats all the way back (too far back to drive, even!) and they STILL had a decent 15cm before their knee would touch the front seat.

so =-p

yeah, commodores have a fairly large boot. id classify my boot as a "7 body" boot... more if you gut the m into little peices :P

the only things in my boot are the sub and amps, and 2 towels (spares in there of course). so i dont mind a downsize.

I would probably consider the S14 200SX  as a good option to consider at around that price. Lots of stock ones around and plenty of really nice ones as well.

yes, but they are SO UGLY... there's a reason why everyone wants to do the s15 front end on them!

That GTR is a PIG!  If that's what you can afford I would not even consider it.  Photos always look better than real life, and there are many things wrong with that car.  The dealer claims no rips on seats, so why take a photo of the passenger seat and not the driver's seat .

Anyway.......

Personally I would go an immaculate R32 GTS-T (preferably with an rb25 conversion :) ), an immaculate R33 GTS-T, or the WRX.  How about a Subaru Legacy GT-B (twin turbo)

we have one for sale that needs to be moved......

i reakon the silvia range are good bang for buck, specialy s13's 180s and s15's. they can be just as quick 2, being 200kg's lighter, heard alot that get to 250rwkw no probz. only thing is i hear of them crashing all the time... people losing it in the wet... tisk tisk

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
