looks like a midified std sump, or try a local engenering work shop to mod yours.

Japanese performance cars are the fastest growing sector in the performance industry. Drifting has become very popular and Import Drag Racing is all the rage.

High Energy Oil Pans has now developed a number of specially designed oil pans for these import racers. We are now offering a range of designs for:

Holden/Nissan VL 3.0L oil pans (RB30)

Nissan Skyline Oil pans (RB20, RB25, RB26)

WRX (EJ20)

Honda etc.

Mazda Rotary

Some quick questions that i asked High Energy and their response....

was just wondering the price of a sump for an r33 gtst rb25det? $600+gst for our Pro Eliminator

are these a c/o basis or buy outright?

Yes they are c/o pan and oil pickup

do they come with a modified pick-up?

Yes , mesh windage tray and x2 gates for better oil control on acceleration and braking.

what amount of oil do they hold?

6.5Litres

production lead time from date of order 2-3 weeks

hope this helps

To stop oil surge, probably while drifting - i'm unsure whether it's a problem with this motor, but it sounds like a better investment than a blowoff valve.

yes i want a baffled sump for a little extra assurance against oil starvation to the bottom end at high revs during hard cornering...

it's certainly not for drifting tho :P

Thanks for that link BU5TER.

there really is no point putting an aftermarket sump on ....just put an oil cooler on and see how much more oil it takes!

I have an oil cooler already, that cools the oil. Doesn't stop the oil pickup from not getting any oil though!

yep I've seen the UAS offering... it's larger capacity, but doesn't look like a baffled design.. thanks for the suggestion :P

I have never heard of an RB25 having dramas at the track. Merli tracked his old R33, which was internally std but with a HKS 3040 and Greddy plenum etc, AP 6 pots etc etc and making about 275rwkws with semi slicks. His car was punted regularly and never had starvation problems.

It would be added insurance...but really i see it as an extra initial expense, purchase + Labour. Then at $70 for 5L of Castrol, the cost of an oil change would soon get expensive, especially since i change my oil before every track day, even if that sump has only done o1 track day and 500kms of road use.

That said if you have the coin and already have all other basis covered, then do it....curious to know how much labour is involved to install?

just slap an extra litre in there before you go out  :)

I do not think you understand the concept of having the modified sump.

The extra capacity is there because it's a differnet size and can hold more oil before the level goes too high and starts becoming whipped up and airated by the crank, by adding more oil than is the maximum level on ANY engine that isn't dry sumped you will get air in the oil, and air in the oil going onto your bearings etc is bad.

The reason for the baffles etc is to stop the oil from getting away from the pickup, holding more oil is just a bonus of the system. By adding more oil to a stocker you arent getting the benifits of the modified sump.

BTW, after the track day where does this extra litre of oil you add go? Does it magically dissapear, burn, what? :(:P

you pull out sump plug

you drain oil

you put sump plug back in

I thought it was basic (sorry for the sarcasm there, need a vent while @ work for another shift)

If there is more oil in there, there is less chance of it being somewhere other than where the pick-up is one would imagine

But really, i dont think even modded RB25 (as troy said) have problems with that.

I was told i wouldnt need it for my RB25 (plan was to see track but didnt sue to selling the motor... damned EPA)

And seeing a few RB25/30'also punted around in 33's without modded sumps also who dab an bit more oil in there is my reasoning.

My reason for bigger/baffeled sump is one of insurance, why spend 10g on a motors internals and not do your best to stop oil starvation and killing the motor (again).

Plus i have heard when using the N1 pump that you can actually empty the std sump very quickly.

Im making my sump myself with the help of an engenering mate and with oil cooler and larger filter should be pushing the capacity up around 8.5 - 9L

Cheers

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
