You traitor Targa Tom...after kicking arse and getting that bucket of bolts up to 13/106 OUTRIGHT on day 1 - I thought you would be moving up to a 34 GTR or like.....but a "valiant"...shame on you (ha ha).

I also will not be in TT06 this year either. Throwing all at my other circuit 32GTS - and having a ball in the "no rules...but at least I'm racing" Targa class down here in Tassie. Got to hand it to Mark...the whole concept of group racing has been a huge success. It's really refreshing to be racing rather than politicing, especially after having good stints in HQ's and IP over the years.

My 32 GTS is wrapped up in the shed after an engine freshen up.....ready to go. It is for sale though ($18,000 will get anyone out there an immaculate car, fully set up for tarmac events) but if I still got it next year will be going to L3 mods hopefully giving it another 60rwkw - then it will be FUN!!

MARLIN (and any other SAU Targa/racing nuts)...when down here make yourself know to me - I've got the steak restaurant in L'ton (sorry SAU about the free plug). If you need a hand with any thing, I'll be glad to help.

Targa Tom....I think I had Nicole's?? brother at the restaurant on Sat night.....he had a big smile on his face....apparently "testing" the Val around Tassie.

And I'll bet you'll miss these crazy but dedicated " NISSAN NUTTERS" that have been on the start of the famouse Hellyer Gorge each year.

Hope to catch up with you soon

Kerry

Hi

I'l be driving my GTS-t for the 2nd time as the official camera car, it's fun. They pay for everything and you get to have a fang on the stages and pass old cars!! You may remember, the cameraman getting cleaned up by Walker's R32 GTR last year?? I was standing right next to him, yuk!! He was my man!!

My GTS-t was the first ever accepted into targa in `97 and won it's class 4 times from 5 starts

I started this job last year after navigating 8 straight Targa's with a best 4th place outright in `03, riding shotgun in a VW Turbo. (Porsche). Garwood and I had a huge crash on Gunns Plains in `04 whilst leading outright, breaking my neck in two literally and ending my Targa career.

So in doing the camera car thing has kept me involved and my knowledge of course has helped Southern Cross to cover the event better.

I had a ball last year and would love to catch up with any Nissan nuts. Just come up to car 800. I live in Hobart so would be happy to show you all where to get a decent feed and a drink or seven!!

Car # - 800

Driver name - Mark Perry

Co-Driver name - Tim Williams

Vehicle type - R32 GTS-t

Targa history - 1997-2004 Targa Tas, 1998-2004 Rally Tas

4th outright- 03, 5th outright- 02. 5 class wins, golden targa trophy. 3rd outright Rally Tas- 03 & 04

General comments - I love Targa!!

Cheers and see you all there!

Hi Mark, you sure had some great success there! You must just about know it like the back of your hand having a gold plate!

I cringed when I saw you and Garwood crash on Gunn's Plains in '04, lets hope there's no repeats of that experience.

I'll be sure to come and say g'day!

Will see ya soon mate, been getting the old girl ready for impending sale. Nics Bro had a big paddy's day and thanks you for the cellar tour... didn't know how long to leave it before we came in, LOL.

The guys with the flag... what can I say? Have seen them all over and they are the real Nissan fans. The finish party in 03 or 04 was a memorable performance when they were on stage... PMLOL.

If anyone wanted to come and join in the fun - we had simiar fun in Monaco - I would be happy to copy them our own service book and give an insite to the best viewing short cuts.

In fact a SAU tour would surely get some numbers - just a thought.

Ciao

Lol! thought it was that kerry!

Boys if you are in town and want a good steak you can't pass up an Eye Fillet Med Rare with a glass (i mean bottle) of red to wash it down from lonnies best! JHG!!!

Unfortunatelly im not having anything to do with Targa this year, work and study commitments and with the Legana/bridgenorth stage canned (you know who to blame for that).

I will still get up to the silverdome and have a squizz and maybe catch a stage on the saturday or something

Hey MARLIN

Luv to meet you....just ask for Kerry at www.jailhousegrill.com.au or if you book in over Targa I'll probably answer the phone.

...and Phat....have I meet you yet??

....Targa Tom....when in town....you know you gotta come and see me or I'll torch the Val...

Kerry

WHEN IS EVERY BODY HEADING DOWN??

Boat leaves Saturday nite from Melbourne

Our GTR R34 will be on it, I hope

7th time in GTR 13th targa in total

Might be getting time to retire

It's hard work

Could be a bit difficult to make top ten this year, lots of very fast cars.

Just saw on the Targa site that Peter Brock (who said he had retired and would never race Targa again) has entered Targa in a Daytona Coupe (very nice peice of kit)

I was at the prolouge today, the 2 R34's were tuff as. The Blue one shot some flames as it passed me. And Beebles sounded awsome.

Whites where 11th, they have there lambo tuned pretty hard, it backfires like their R34 did. And the breaks are huuuuuuuuge.

the first Skyline was Beeble at #14, and the next one was down in 37th. There isn't that many GT-R's this year. Seems they all sold em and got evo's.

And Garwood went through someone's front fence.

good stuff. haha, bill pye leading classic class. he is a good driver and cashed up like you wouldnt believe. he raced with us in prod sports (and cleaned up) and in the HSRCA rounds we do. i have some funny stories about him from our last round in golburn, but being the gentleman i am will keep them to myself! he is very quick in a porsche though, there is no doubting that.

    • Was going to say the car pulls up nicely everywhere, especially going into that last long right hander before the main straight. Looks like a lot of fun.
    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
