at the end of the day its not just motorsport at this level ...

Yeh well if you had billions invested into F1, it wouldn't be just a motor race either, I think these days it comes down to sponsors, after all they are the ones funding the majiority of it!

it's just a shame it's not like the old days anymore! but hey what can you do!

All the Ferrari/Italian bashing here makes me laugh...how many of you guys have lived in Europe and really have a clue what ur talking about.........not many

Personally I refuse to even discuss F1 with anyone who hasn't spent atleast 6 months backpacking through Europe. :O

Alonso wasn't penalised simply because he was ahead BEFORE he tried to turn into the chicane. Which is to say, for exactly the same reason that Schumacher wasn't penalised in Hungary. Doesn't stop the decision being a stupid one on both accounts, however...

the point is that he was only ahead because he broke so late, too late to make the turn properly, so he just went straight across the grass, and never gave back the position

Ha ha- typical ignorant aussie rant

I have lived In italy on and off for years and lucky enough to have met Chris Dyer a number of times through a friend and the politics of F1 would make your head spin..but just throwing the blame at the officials when the golden child Alonso doesnt win is ignorant at best...V8 supertaxi is more for ignorant aussie folk...not all aussie though..because there have been some amazing aussies involved in F1 over 50 years

As I said, I think it was a bad decision - as was the one relating to Schumacher in Hungary. Both drivers should have been penalised.

The GP drivers themselves are up in arms about it - simply because it makes no sense.

The politics of F1 is one of the principal reason why so many disfunctional decisions get made. By and large it is because, for want of agreement, a bad decision is implemented simply because it is preferable to the status quo. Too many teams do what is in their immediate short term interest - to the detriment of the sport & as often as not their own long term interests.

The officials in question, in my opinion, made a bad decision. Part of the duty of the officials is to be independent and not influenced by lobying or other factional interests. When this doesn't occur, well does anyone remember the farce that was the last iteration of the WTCC?

BTW, what have V8's got to do with it?

Just to clear things up, I was not throwing blame just cause Alonso didn't win. I was pi$$ed off about what was shown on the telecast which was Alonso way ahead of Massa, and this part of the footage being referred to as the reason he was penalised.

As for Alonso being a "golden child" my word he is. F1 needs alot more Alonso's on the grid. The kid is young, a very very gifted driver, has been winning and has got a following. With "God" (not meant in negative way - I am a big fan of what he has achieved) now retiring who will be the new face of F1 - Kimi (Mr personality) raikkonen???

On a side note, I think living in Eurpoe is in no way a measure of someone's knowledge of F1. I am of European background, have lived there and have many relatives all over Europe, some of which don't know what F1 stands for :-)

At the same time you have a lot of people on this forum who are very keen observers of F1 and have been following F1 for a very long time, and discounting their opinions because they haven't lived in Europe is a little over the top.

wher the hell did BMW come from?!!?

Fantastic effort by Robert Kubica to keep Massa behind him all race!! They look damn good for 07...

Yes Bravo Kubica... Bye Bye Schuey! hehehe! Thank f&*k for that! And how is it he wouldn't shut the f*&k up the other night! Jeez!

you're kidding right? He was announcing his retirement...I think he is entitled to a retirement speech

its sad that when schumi retires that Alonso will be the on F1 champ on the grid...

thats a pretty sad state of affairs

Completely agree. I think the F1 dudes have a big problem on their hands. Someone like Shuey has amassed a legion of fans that are loyal to him and not Ferrari or F1. His fans spend big on his merchandise and alot go to F1 to see him on the track, not Ferrari and not the sport of F1. I could be wrong but I'd really like to see attendance records for next year compared to the last couple of years. Actually i hope I'm wrong!

The problem also get's bigger when you look across the paddock and find that drivers with a personality are far and few between. Which is why I personally think the F1 should be promoting Alonso more than anything at the moment.

Also I think his retirement was very poorly managed. If I knew next season was Shuey's last i would definately be at the Melbourne GP and more than likely would have tried to get to Malaysia as well. The guy needs to have a farewell season.

yeah i agree with that... you see most people cheering for schumi and Ferrari just a by-product of their support. Of course there are a lot of Ferrari fans out there, but im guessing a large contingent of them with have nothing to wave in the air next year.

yes, he definately should have had a farewell tour. like i said 2 pages ago. it would have packed every GP on the calendar. and some of those people would be first timers, and afterwards would think: "that was great, let's come back next year".

I'm very glad I made the trip down to melb earlier this year for his last race in aus.

I 'll be lucky enough to be at Japan GP this year to see Schumi for his 2nd last race. Then next year bring on Kimi for the reds..I havnt looked forward to a F1 season like next years in a long time :O

It wiil be so intersting seeing how the big boys settle into their respective new teams...including Webber who I fear will do nothing special just like this year.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
