Solid lifters.

There's a pic of the kit on nengun.

They look like regular solid lifters.. Which makes me wonder, would it be possible to drop gtr lifters in there. :S

I would assume not otherwise people would be doing it everywhere.

Im pretty sure u can swap all the gtr stuff over, you just need to find someone upgrading there gtr to 10krpm stuff :)

Think SK mentioned it in the past

Solid lifters are solid lifters...

Hydraulics are hydraulics.. They look very much different.

The small pic on the nengun web site or is it greenline?? unsure shows exactly what solid lifters look like.

They basically look like a little helmet.

hey all,

i am building an rb25/30det atm with stock cams, i have heard that the rb30 runs into harmonic issues above 6500, is this true?

i have an rb25det water pump and an rb30e water pump which should i use?

also are you ppl using the rb25det oil cooler.(i have put mine on the rb30det but havnt finished building it yet.)

i am using rb25det oil pump, but tossing up whether to buy new one or not because mine had lowish oil press on the engine it was off and shows slight wear on the teeth.

on the stock skyline guage my oil pump showed;

4-5 at idle when cold

3-4 at 100kmh in 5th

2-3 at idle when warm

my new rb25det(new motor- low km import) oil pressure shows

8+ at idle when cold

~6 at 100kmh in 5th

5 at idle when warm

i used the same oil pressure sender on both engines... so is the old pump stuffed?

This is not fact, but pretty close (i think ;) )

RB26 solid lifters dont drop into RB25. Teh valve stem heights etc are different etc etc so you would need new valves, retainers, lifters, springs etc etc....all that for usign 2nd hand lifters.

So again dont hold me to that, but a bit of research about 12 months ago had me sh1tty that Nissan gear isnt that univeral :P

There is nothing special about a solid lifter...and mos thead specialists would be able to do the conversion for you using custom lifters. Hell 10 owners get together and buy 240 off him and see what the cost looks like compared to Jap kits

A cheaper way out of a solid lifter conversion would be to use the RB25 neo exhaust buckets. They have a longer foot inside them to take up the distance that a hydraulic lifter normally would. They are made of aluminium and use a shim over setup, toyota 2jz etc shims will fit them to adjust the tappet clearance. They might not be super dear from Nissan and should definately be cheaper than the Tomei etc buckets.

They will work fine with most cams, only with very fast lifting cams you may run into problems with the shim diameter, that would be over 12mm lift though. The shim over setup will be slightly heavier than a shim under but I think the aluminium bucket makes up for the weight so it shouldn't be a problem. It works fine on the NEO.

Suggestions follow;

1. A properlybalanced RB30 has absolutely no problems to 7,500 rpm

2. The RB25DET water pump

3. Nope, we use external oil coolers, lowers the heat loading on the radiator

4. Use an R33GTR oil pump with a wide flange drive collar (ProEngines have them) fitted to the RB30 crank

:P cheers :(

Ps; don't forget to limit the oil flow to the cylinder head (restrictor) and improve the return to the sump.

Doesn't the 2JZ-GTE run small shims UNDER the buckets? All the 2JZ-GTE heads I have worked on are shim under bucket, the cam lobes working directly on the bucket tops, NOT the shims.

Chris, I have a 2JZGTE here at the moment that has shim over tappets and I did one in December that had the same but we converted it to the shimless buckets from the very late 2JZ/1ZZ engines. There may be one that is shim under but I haven't worked on one that is. The shim over toyota shims are the same diameter and thickness range as the RB25 neo. Have you had the buckets out of the engines you worked on and seem shims or are they shimless buckets, they are pretty common on later Toyotas.

whats the general price on a rb26 head?

only reason i didn't go that way was due to the new exhaust manifold, and inlet plenum i just bought and installed on the RB25..

Prices vary from $1000 upwards, but it was easier for me as i have a RB30 with

GTR sard injectors etc, so all i am changing is exhaust manifold, and will put my

Throttle body on the end of the 26 plenum and change the crank angle sensor

wiring plug. Working out the maths it is lot easier and cheaper in the end with cams than doing the 25 head.

cheers

darren

im also stuck with cam issues, my rb25/30 made 352rwkw@16psi with a modified td07s turb0 its in the shop atm hopin for 400rwkw@20psi, the head has gtr valve springs and gtr cams. the car will be mainly street with the occasional drag and very odd drift..

just wanna know which cams would best suit it and increase the potential of my current setup

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
