This thread is redundant, please lock ash! :)

....otherwise, thanks for bringing this up again, people need to be reminded of the dangers involved with driving any car, let alone a 250rwkw car on their P's.

I copped a lot of shit for buying an NA R33 (on my P's mind you), but not only had I only driven a manual a handful of times when i got it, but i hadn't driven an rwd car let alone a turbo and didn't like the idea of putting myself into a tree.

I have the same problem with my best mate who is, i would say a very good driver, but it counts for nothing when you don't know what others on the road might (read: can) do.

Be smart and be safe people!

Many years ago now i think about it, and around this time of year on a filthy wet night after some very dry weeks.

I came really close and was lucky, hopefully no-one ever gets into the same pickle i was in many moons ago :D

Make sure its after May 26th, i wanna drive to an event!!!! :)

Very good thread, also wanna point out to be observant for other drivers out on the road as anything can happen! And even if your going slow.

Me and the ol lady where in a low speed crash(about 15kph) still did ALOT of damage to the car and her!!!

It helps if your comfortable with how much u suck as a driver thats why i never try stupidity cos i know and accept im not a good driver, also helps with peer pressure. I just reply with "U really want me to wrap us around a tree?"

This is great. I have never been on a forum that gave out warnings such as these. Of course I believe only a hand full would actually take this warning seriously, but it is the thought of the more senior drivers looking out for the newer drivers.

Wet roads are dangerous and when you come unstuck on a wet road there is no saving you... So keep it safe guys because hitting things is not a good feeling...

and not just in ya skylines too!!

every car you drive... it all comes down to common sense. Even if your in your daily (if its not ya skyline), you should take care on the roads in all conditions.

well said mate,

I fancy myself as a pretty good driver, however it doesnt take much to come undone in a high powered car. Of which we all share the same passion.

A bit of oil on a slanted roundabout, gravel in a corner. Everynow and then I suprise myself with my cars power and remember.

I relate it to where i work. I work in engineering and involes working with giant induction molten metal furnaces and overhead cranes and massive amounts of weight and heat. When I first got the job i was very weary of the apparent dangers, but after 3 years I am almost oblivious to it until something goes wrong. Same deal, take care. You only have to hit a power pole doing 60-70 to die. Thats all it takes

I work in the transport industry and have to sometimes drive trucks. So I will add to please be careful around them.

Not including the lack of visibility its hard enough to emergency stop a fully laden truck in the dry let alone on a slippery road. I know people just want to get in front of us but idiots fly around on the passenger side where we cant see, get in front, and the lights change all of a sudden and they pull up hard with 60 tonnes of metal screeching behind them to try and stop earlier. A truck, even at 10km/h will cause devastating damage to a car. Aint no ABS nor disk brakes on 95% of heavy vehicles.

Anyways happy and safe driving.

Exactly true, I work for a largish truck company and see this a lot. People just don't think about how long a truck takes to stop. In fairness I have never seen it acknowledged in driving literature which is maybe where part of the problem lies. I hate passing trucks and try and avoid at all costs even pulling in front of one on the freeway as I have seen the aftermarth of some our accidents.

Al think urself lucky, we have a nice big freeway running through our town, so we learn how to drive with them around, giving them space and not breaking if 2 dangerous to do so for an amber light if a truck is up ur ass.

altho watching alot of travellers scares u sometimes at how they dont know how to share the road with semi's

good on ya Ash this thread is really positive, too bad most of the people who really need to hear this stuff will ignore it to find out first hand one day... but it seems as if there are some things you need to experience for yourself and hopefully it doesn't kill you in the process!

... some people are still driving around with the scars from an unplanned offroad experience in the Dandenongs in the pouring rain with terrible tires... *looks around innocently*

      Sounds good.  I don't 100% understand what your getting at here. When you say, "I keep seeing YouTube videos where people have new paint and primer land on the old clearcoat that isn't even dulled down" do you mean this - there is a panel with factory paint, without any prep work, they paint the entire panel with primer, then colour then clear?  If that's what you mean, sure it will "stick" for a year, 2 years, maybe 3 years? Who knows. But at some stage it will flake off and when it does it's going to come off in huge chunks and look horrific.  Of course read your technical data sheet for your paint, but generally speaking, you can apply primer to a scuffed/prepped clear coat. Generally speaking, I wouldn't do this. I would scuff/prep the clear and then lay colour then clear. Adding the primer to these steps just adds cost and time. It will stick to the clear coat provided it has been appropriately scuffed/prepped first.  When you say, "but the new paint is landing on the old clearcoat" I am imagining someone not masking up the car and just letting overspray go wherever it wants. Surely this isn't what you mean?  So I'll assume the following scenario - there is a small scratch. The person manages to somehow fill the scratch and now has a perfectly flat surface. They then spray colour and clear over this small masked off section of the car. Is this what you mean? If this is the case, yes the new paint will eventually flake off in X number of years time.  The easy solution is to scuff/prep all of the paint that hasn't been masked off in the repair area then lay the paint.  So you want to prep the surface, lay primer, then lay filler, then lay primer, then colour, then clear?  Life seems so much simpler if you prep, fill, primer, colour then clear.  There are very few reasons to go to bare metal. Chasing rust is a good example of why you'd go to bare metal.  A simple dent, there is no way in hell I'm going to bare metal for that repair. I've got enough on my plate without creating extra work for myself lol.
