I ran 275/40/17" Nitto Drag Radials on a 17x8" rim and they were fine.

I run the 255/50/16" MT ET Streets on a 16x7.5 although a 16x8" (R32 GTR rim etc) or 16x7" rim will be fine too.

Adrian

If we get enough buyers, ill see what we can get a set for, may not be as cheap as the smaller tyres, but still should be discounted.

Ok guys, got some pricing.

235/60/15 $235.00ea

255/50/16 $250.00ea

275/40/17 $275.00ea

This is depending on the amount we buy, im buying one set of each for the shop so we need at least 7 more buyers. these are as cheap as youll find, these tyres retail usually for $270, $290 & $317ea.

Am going to WSID weather permitting on wednesday night so Mona can try a set for a comparison. Will post results, after that ill be ready to order. Can PM me if interested, and will arrange electronic payment.

i can bring tyres to WSID the following week or pick them up from shop.

Would we be able to get a price on these? and whats the recommended rim width for 275 tyres? will they fit 9" wide rims or will they require bigger?

MT recommended rim width for 275/40/17 is 9".

I have about 20 X 17" wheels that are suitable, but no 16" wheels wide enough.

So the extra $25 is not an issue, cheaper than buying wheels.

I just have to check the clearances on the 2 cars.

So I will either get a pair of 255/50/16's or 275/40/17's.

:P cheers :)

Cool, pretty sure Adrian (2rismo) has run the 17 under his 33. Ill take all the orders on thursday after the drags, and get them all down.

The 275/40/17's 'just' fit on the bum of my 33 gts. I may have had a very flukey offset though....

SK, you can pick up stock 300ZX rims for about $30ea so to save headaches, I'd get a pair of them and buy the 255/16's with the greater sidewall.

Just a thought.

Adrian

surely 255 wont fit on stock 6.5" rims, 225s are allready bulging out of the side. Im pretty sure the stock 16" were meant for 205 tyres.

Anyway, Im down for a pair of 275/40/17 if this goes ahead.

Any chance of interstate postage and how much? or do we have to arrange pick up in sydney was it?

I know this is probably not recommended, but are these legal to use on the street?

Yes they are one hundred percent street legal. are a soft compound though, and have decent sidewall, look tough on the street.

Thanks Adrian, I do have set of Stagea 16" wheels, same size as R33GTST. I was thinking more along the lines of R32GTR rims as they are 8".

The taller sidewall is a thought, have you compared the 255/50/16's and the 275/40/17's times? Is there a noticeable difference? It's a width versus sidewall comparison, which gives the best result.

I have a pair of ugly 17 X 9" with a serious 45 mm offset, on those wheels the 275's would have no problems outwards, maybe inwards would be an issue though. That's what I have to measure.

 cheers :P

    • Hey keep the ideas coming, I'm always keen on projects! But, problem fixed!  I got a cheapie ozito scope from Bunnings and had a good look in and around the bearing and sensor hole. I couldn't see a smoking gun but the bearing looked a bit strange, especially when comparing with a new one. I thought the cover had come off the bearing magnets.  Sorry for pics of a screen, I didn't have an SD card.     Good thing I had the old one to inspect. So, given I'm like a pit crew with wheel bearings and luckily I had a spare bearing because I f**ked up my parts order, I decided to just smash it out. Got the old one out in about an hour. So much easier when the parts haven't had a chance to rust together yet. 😂 And, well, found the problem.    In the second pic at about the 8 o'clock position, you'll see what I think is the tip of the old sensor.  The new sensor has definitely been rubbing but it's all intact, just a little shiny so I'm hoping it's fine.  The car brakes perfectly now and no errors.  I think the job took about 2.5h in the end. 👍🏻 I really appreciate the help in here as usual. Thanks guys.
    • I was only looking because I saw some drops on the ground but it wasn't alot. Recently had it serviced will ask the mech to confirm. Find it strange that it looks standard though, can see in another photo of a random box
    • So...not sure if you know if that has always been there or why you went looking. It could be old damage from a clutch explosion, or even just the gearbox got dropped somewhere along the line. Basically, you should seal it up to stop oil and dust getting into the bellhousing, but it doesn't matter too much and is not structural. I'd suggest something like a glob of JB Weld. BTW what gearbox oil are you running, I would guess the breather has been spewing it everywhere.
    • Hey Duncan thanks for your reply. Sorry mate I know the photos are shit.  Took another photo for reference. Seems the casing does have a hole in it looking on the net, fluid seeping out. Added a photo
    • Very hard to make out what you mean, is it the squarish hole with redline shockproof (probably) under it? Is that pic from on top of the engine with the firewall to the left of pic and engine to the right? Either way, spray the area liberally with degreaser and try again, maybe circle the part you are worried about
