Full story? geebus... it'll take a while Aaron

It began @ 6am Tues morning when i got to snowy's house... about to get in the car and i notice the trailer bed the GTR is on has a nice patch of oil.

passenger side rear shocker has shat itself *cries*

From then on things certainly didnt improve. But it was amusing without a doubt from a spectator point of view

Snowy can tell the rest of the story... that'll just give you an insight into the excitement :)

i was busy getting into beers for probably 1/2 of it :nuke:

And loosing a camera...

The 32 from what i understand is a bit quicker, i mean its run a 10.4 with around 380-400rwkw it has now (running pure 108 i think) :D

A buggered shock on that small twisty track would not have helped at all.

Yeah Aaron - it was a disaster from the get go really. The hard part was I'd driven 800km's so I wasn't about to turn around and go home without having a play. Although in hind sight if I'd have done that it'd have saved me a few $$$.

Anyways - as Ash said when we got there we noticed the rear left shock was gone. But I went out anyways. It wasn't too bad initially - but it got worse. I think I was into the 1.08's by the 2nd lap on the practise day (only 2 cars under 1.08 for the whole competition) and that was just running on low boost (1.2 bar or about 250rwkw's).

I did get into the 1.07's in my 2nd session but then the car got worse. The bouncing caused me many visits to the gravel (I think I worked out I went off at every corner at some stage) and on one visit off the track I hit a bit of a hole which pretty badly buckled a rim.

What I didn't realise was this actually was deflating that tyre slowly. The R comps don't really tell you when they have lost pressure as the side walls are so stiff. So basically on the competition day in the warm up practise session I went out and the flat trye rolled off the rim. Killed the tyre totally and I couldn't get another one this side of a 6hr round trip. It turns out that the other rear shock had gone by this stage too which was why at the end of the practise day I litterally couldn't do a lap without spinning at this one spot on the track. I think I spun on my last 4 laps on the Wed. The whole car was just bouncing like a kangaroo - it was pretty fuuny.

So the only blessing is that due to the weather basically they are going to re-run the event later in the year. I spoke to Charles and he's keen for me to bring a few more cars from Vic up so I'm sure I'll be speaking to you later about it Aaron (they are making it a 2 day event next time) . You'll love the track - it's heaps of fun to drive. It's hard to explain as the top speed isn't high (just over 200) but it feels like a fast track simply because there is so many quickish sweepers. Lots of 4 wheel slides. It's tops fun.

As for Mark and Russell's car it's impressive but I still think Frank would have him no problems. I reckon it's about on par with your car. With the dog box and the 4.3 diff's I reckon they'd run out of legs at the island and it also might be a bit soft but at Wakefield it's a pretty good car and would be tough to beat.

Anyways - Benno has my car and hopefully come Morwell we'll finally get to have a run and we'll see where we are at Aaron.

...we noticed the rear left shock was gone...

It turns out that the other rear shock had gone by this stage too

So what are the chances that the damage was caused by those 2 wheels you had to remove on the way back from the DECA test day?

Given the damage to the tyres, more than likely did some damage to the shockers too?

All in all you deserve some congratulations for cutting great times and pushing on with a difficult situation. Shame about the rim.

ps: count me in later in the year.

Brisby - I doubt it. It either had to be quick (like Russ's car and the MX5) or had to LOOK quick - like the teg, the M Coupe and the Zed- or just be different like the Turbo S2000 and Pete's car. So to get in you'll have to chuck on a big GT Wing or something probably or gte up there and run an official 1.07. lol

The mag comes out in May so you can see what was there. There were stacks of cars in the 1.08's / 1.09's I think. Only the MX5 (1.07.8) and the Black R32 (1.06.3) were under 1.08's. But I think a few more cars will be there for the next one. Notaris said he'll be there and both him and Mark/Russ said they'll be aiming for 1.05's and the MX5 guy reckons he'll be in there too since this was the cars first run.

We had a good chat to Dom on the Tuesday (from Autostyle with the Mines GTR) and they were never planning on attending the competition. They were down their with a perspective customer for the car.

They had been running that car all day when at the end they let a "mate" take the car for a spin. And he litterally took it for a spin. During the spin they had a slight problem (and missed Terry Holt's EVO by mm's) but they fixed it up at the track and drove it home. It wasn't anything serious. The car was pretty impressive but I couldn't tell you any lap times. It certainly looked smick and the BBS rims were tough as.

Brisy - don't dispare. Charles also said that the plan for 2007 was to hold 4 events and each of the events was for Marques - so there will be a Skylines Only day next year. Maybe you'll be right for that.

Well I have another hard core carbon kevlar Cobra seat now, the data logger, LM GT4s and will have even bigger rotors soon with a new respray…

Even if my car looks std im hoping it may have enough race bling with a touch of genuine pace that they may be interested. The gruntier engine is goign to take a long while since ex-employer is stuffing me around with owed money...carnts

...if Auto Salon dotn car for my car then thats cool...i still like it, well most of the time :D

    • Is it alright to top up with just another green coolant?
    • thanks GTSboy. My confusion at the moment is i am trying to locate the ignition, ECU battery power and the ECU negative The closest thing i can find is the for the S15 on Page 8 of the Wiring Specialties web page https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9F33_M_GgENQnZ6STMxVmVNd1E/view?resourcekey=0-eZ4nNRwRoqa1qvKlWWHm8A I cannot find the same diagram for the R33 RB25DET Series 2 dash plug pin out.... Do you know what the Pins? or know where i can find the same pinout diagram for the RB dash plug? Thanks for the advice on the box... i like a 6 speed so might be on the lookout or the box now.. a topic of discussion for another post...
    • Will have a look at that. I cant see any leaks
    • Put another overflow bottle (ie, a 1.25 coke bottle or similar) under the overflow hose and see if it is being pushed out there or if it is disappearing into the engine.
    • Staring on a stand is no issue. You just have to wire everything up, give it fuel and cross your fingers that the stand is robust enough. Arranging the inlet plumbing is often the hardest part, without any surrounding structure to hand some of it from. No need for coolant if you only want to run it for <1 minute. As to the gearbox - I think the little Aisin box is a bit stronger than the other small Nissan boxes that went behind SRs, but I wouldn't be too keen to test its limits with the torque of a boosted 25. I don't know if you can retain the box and the tailshaft. The box won't connect to the RB without an adapter of some sort, which is either a plate that will push the engine forward (which is not good for fitting it into the bay's available space) or push the box back, which messes with the box position and tailshaft length - OR - cut and shut work on the bellhousing, which is a long way from "least modification". I'd be buying a new 370Z 6 speed or similar, doing what has to be done to that to make it fit RB (ie, cut and shut bellhousing) and the requisite tailshaft custom/mods.
