I've had an, R33 GTR Brembo kit installed onto my Series 1 GTS-t.

Using ELF HTX115 dot 4 fluid and Green Stuff pads, it certainly pulls up better but still you need to put so much pressure on the pedal for a sudden stop.

Rotors are 324 x 32mm and got about 2mm between the calipers and spokes.

I think the ABS is overworking, or set too strong.

The initial clamping is too gradual.

Even if you stamp on the pedal hard as hell, it feels no where near lock up.

How does the module work, and is it adjustable in any way.

How can you test or compare the module or is it just malfunctioning.

Has anyone disabled it or is this not recommended.

Look forward to some comments.

:D

If the ABS is working properly, when you stomp the brake pedal, you should get a pulsation back through the pedal as the ABS continually slackens off and re-applies the pressure to the fluid.

isnt the whole purpose of ABS to stop you from locking up???

Yes, but some systems are too intrusive. They could let you stop faster and still have the ABS enabled, but they dont. Im not sure of the reasons why, someone else might be able to explain that.

...Even if you stamp on the pedal hard as hell, it feels no where near lock up...

How hard are we talking here?

Take the car some where with no traffic, and smooth, level roads and brake a hard as you can from 70 or 80km/h to zero and get back to us about weather the pedal pulses when abs kicks in. You may just have really good tyres that just keep on gripping (no bad thing).

i have found the 33 GTST system to be quite intrusive and cuts in too early like you describe. i've found my 32 GTR one to be later to cut in, allowing me to snatch a brake every now and then before cutting in. my 32 GTST has no abs and the pedal feel is much firmer and nicer.

i dont think there is much you can do about it. it's the characteristics of early 90s ABS systems with the ecu programmed for street use/safety. the GTR one may be programmed more agressively i'm not sure.

Definitely too intrusive.

I will shortly perform a brake test and get back with the results.

I wonder if the module can be replaced with an R34 GTR one.

How can it be diagnosed through a computer?

Years ago I had a 1984 model Alfa GTV 2.0.

That thing could outbrake a 911 Carrera at the time.

Awesome.

Wouldn't mind the same feel considering the Brembo upgrade ! :laughing-smiley-014:

Test result :

From 80km/h to stop.

Heavy brake.

Car stopped at around 25-30 metres.

Felt a gradual smooth brake for around 2 secs, then pulsed.

The car still felt like it travelled too far.

From 70km/h to stop.

Absolute full stomp.

Car stopped in under 20 metres.

Felt ABS immediately and managed to get a tiny lockup on the fronts.

I'm talking less than 300 mm slide.

Just don't get that pressure against the seat belt like other cars.

The brakes almost feel like they're not power assisted.

On a sudden stop, I have to apply so much pressure on the pedal, I'm afraid it's gonna break or bend.

Normal braking is ok.

Don't have braided lines or a stopper, should have done it on the upgrade

Going to look into changing the ABS module as well.

To be continued...

Hey,

just for some input.

I threw some tyres on my old pulsar that I'd had lying around for a short term fix but because they were different diameters, that is bigger on the front, the front revolved slightly slower than the back. The abs picked this up as the front wheel locking up under breaks. It wouldn't let me brake like before. It was kicking in so early that it was dangerous. I pulled a fuse and turned off the ABS.

Its a really long shot, and probably not your issue, but I'm just trying to help.

    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
