Class capacity restrictions is one off the top of my head.

Hmm...I should google that up, i guess.

Did Toyota ever use the 7MGTE or 2JZ in the Japanese touring car championship? or did they need to stick with engines around 2.5L due to turbo equivalency regulations?

I am yet to see anyone who is in the RB30 camp tell me exactly why it's better... As per one of my original posts.

Yet every where I turn there's RB26 information thrown in my face. I know which I would be buying if I needed to (rb26), but that's only because I've spoken to several ppl on sau and several workshops that have nothing to do with sau that all tell me to go RB26 for the same or similar reasons as what R32R had mentioned before.

By posting the information I posted earlier I was no way intending there to be a war between the camps. What I want is information from both sides as to why they're better. That's all.

...oh, I also think this sort of discussion would benefit moonie :(

once you've had real life experience with both maybe you'll understand

I've had 330rwkw rb25 and 450rwkw rb30 so maybe I know something about it?

I never argue they are better I never argue they are worse but one thing I do know is that I see a lot of parrots posting about the RB30 down falls that just have no idea :(

You say the reasons they are bad is because of what R32R posts but who on here is building Japanese championship touring car or 3rd quickest GTR in the world mmm that would be bo one and as for it being old technology it doesn't seem to hold me back does it? and I very much doubt the hp Mona is aiming for it would hold her back either but then again neither would a RB25

What I'm trying to say is yeah you may be right but in reality at our level of modifications your arguement doesn't matter

Now this will be a bit hard for me as I don't have the "vocab" needed but...

A few things that were brought up at a workshop I go to were

issues with oil and water?? Something about oil in an RB30 naturally wanting to stay up around the head and come down really slowly... etc etc, and this causing issues with reliability for prolonged use on a track (ie, not 400m sprints).

They also mentioned that there is a way to rectify this, BUT for a track car they wouldn't recommend it. One of the mechanics at the place was actually in the process of building up an RB30 w/25 head. He said if all I want to do is do drag racing, then there's no problem, but he wouldn't use it on a hot day around a track.

Is this all utter crap?

(looking to gain knowledge here, not start fights)

hmmm...

it was something about the oil and water lines (??) in the block that lead up to the head.

It's all too confusing. So many ppl saying different things. I should just buy a GTR :

or copy you Bu5ter but with a manual box :O hehe.

white s2, big engine...I already have the big turbo... yeah, why not! :)

Yeah but Bu5ter's car hasn't scratched the surface of what it is capable of doing, if you toned it down alot you could still have a 400rwkw motor that peaks at 7,000rpm.

There are a million threads about the oil issues RB's have, I think the unmodified RB30 would be excacerbated by the fact it runs 2 large supplies to the head, the RB26 unmodified has 1 blocked off. But again this is all covered in a alot of threads already on SAU.

A good example of RB25 to 30 is 88sil's car (Mark) - the 20Ghad full boost under 3,000rpm (was it 2,500?) and was all over by 6,500rpm. On an RB25 it's more like full boost at 4k, all over by 7500. Hang on will dig up dyno graphs.

... but one thing I do know is that I see a lot of parrots posting about the RB30 down falls that just have no idea :)

But RB30s dont rev, they have weak blocks and the cranks are weak and they wable and resonate and stuff when you rev them harder then 5,500rpm :):O>_<

A 20B would be such a better option, some nice cams and valvesprings so it can rev and a 20B will leave any RB30 for dead

Yeah....and why you would put a Holden engine in a Skyline is beyond me. :)

Cubes are for kids who cant play with the other kids on the block...

How about we settle this with a race.

The only gear allowed to be used is 5th gear from a standing still. whoever gets to 100km//h first wins.

And I'll be taking a drive in a 20B Cosmo soon too. Be nice and I'll invite you.

Enough on the 25 vs 26 vs 30 stuff guys. We're here to commiserate the passing of Moanies highly thrashed and trashed donk and support her on her choice of motive excitement.

she will be the fastest chicky on the block. and 20 x faster then roy =)

hello mona

Sorry to hear about you motor.

I got some parts laying around at my shop if you need something. Standard cranks, rods,ETC.

As for the engine, I wouldnt really blame the Tuner.Sounds & looks more to an oil surge which could of been a long thing comming.

As for this rev limit business,I sit on the limiter which is 8200RPM doing my burnouts with the standard motor on 18 psi.As doughboy and buster have seen.I wouldnt blame hitting the rev limiter.

What is you rev limit set on mona and do you have an oil Pressure guage in the car. What oil do you use in your car.

my opinion on the cause is either

-Rod gave up

-Oil surge

For this to be caused by pinging the pistons would of all been rounded on the edges due to detention.

Good luck with your new build.I would stick to the RB25.RB26 if you want to spend the money. I wouldnt recommend going to the RB30 stage till you wanna run in the 9`s.

    • Apologies for the long post, but needed somewhere to lay out the entire timeline of events and actions taken:   I've got an 89 GTR with a R34 RB in it. It's been running great all year, driven probably 500KM in the last month. It's not my daily driver, just a weekend fun car.    Build info: R34 RB26 - HKS 2.7 stroker kit, HKS adjustable cam gears, HKS turbo upgrades, Trust intercooler, R34 factory DENSO 440cc injectors, JUN chipped/tuned R32 ECU. All of this work was performed in Japan back in 2019.    Thursday 10/2/25 - It's a nice day and decided I'll drive it to work, I start it up in the garage and I notice it took a few extra cranks and sounded a bit funny. I figure maybe it was just because it was a pretty chilly morning. I pull it out into the driveway to warm up a bit before leaving. As I leave the driveway, it feels very off and sounds like a misfire. I pull it back in the garage to deal with after work and take the daily to work. I was able to diagnose it as a cylinder 5 misfire with the old spark plug test (unplugging each plug until a sound change with the engine running). I take off the whole ignition system, ignitor, plugs, spark. *Important note, it is still on the R32 ignition system with the separate ignitor system. I test each system with a multi-meter and nothing presents as a smoking gun. I put it all back together and it starts up no issue. I go ahead and order the PRP R35 ignition conversion kit. It should arrive today (10/13/25)   Friday 10/3/25 - Another nice day, car starts up great and drives great all day. Very pleased that everything seems to be OK   Sunday 10/5/25 - Decided I'll take it to play some golf, load up and drive to the course about 25 minutes away. Drives wonderful the whole way there, I pull in the parking lot and the engine completely comes to a stop. I do not recall if it sputtered at all, but just remember all of the sudden the engine was off. I roll it into a parking spot, try to crank it back on and nothing.  It'll crank and crank and not even try to start. End up getting it towed back to my house and push it up into the garage.    Items I have checked: Fuel in the tank Fuel Pump relay Fuel pump fuse  Spark Plugs & gap Coil packs Ignitor    I know the cylinders are getting fuel as the plugs smell like fuel after a start attempt. I tried spraying starter fluid into the manifold and cranking and not even a sputter.    I decided to do the live CAS test (removing the the CAS, ignition on and spinning the CAS stalk to see if the injectors pulse and spark is active). All of the injectors were pulsing and I have spark at the plug. The half-moon end of the CAS did seem very loose, I'm not sure how much play is supposed to be there, but it was more than I expected. There was no in/out play of the shaft, just the tip end that is pinned on had quite a bit of play.    CAS Play video   When I put the CAS back in, I stupidly did not re-time the engine. I know I need to do that tonight, however, I do not think it will start given it seemingly was not the issue. My plan is to do the PRP R35 coil kit and retime the engine at the same time.    I plan on ordering the Haltech Nexus Plug-in ECU once they are available again, but ideally would like to get this sorted before firing the parts cannon at it and potentially adding more variables.    Anything glaring that I am missing here, I'm a bit at a loss?
    • Get it on a dyno. Get something logging Consult. Run it up and find out what is causing it.
    • Looking for a plenum for rb25 de+t neo  Not looking to push much power maybe 300kw at the wheels, is there much difference in flow for Freddy “Greddy style” compared to original Greddy or options like Proflow or Otaku garage?    I won’t be porting the de Neo head for now as I think it’ll be fine 280-300rwkw but appreciate the help and any experiences anyone has between them and any advice. Thanks  Looking at this plenum for now below
