8000rpm and side step the clutch, hangon, grab 2nd, hangon again, don't forget their is a hairpin at the end of the straight :D

Haha, I'll keep the hairpin in mind. :) What rpm do you usually launch at?

Be nice to 3rd tho.

launching at around 7000 should be plenty. if you need more then try another 500 or so the next time. personally i wouldn't side step the clutch, but just let it out as fast as your foot can move back up off it. will be a bit kinder and you should still get 1.8sec 60ft. i'm no expert though, so probably a good idea not to listen to me!

I have spent my fair share of time on the track doing circuits etc but never run the 1/4.

What hints / tips do you guys have for my first run in the GTR tomorrow?

Hi Christian, my tips would be:

1. Drive around the water if you dont want to do a burn out.

2. leave you window down a bit and tell the starting guys thats its your 1st time. They will show you where to stop. It's offen hard to see where the line is, and you don't won't to be floundering around reversing and going forward until the staging light go on.

3. Bring your rev's up to about 6500-7000rpm and hold them there. (depends on what power you have and how good your grip is). You dont wont your rev's to be too low or you will bog down off the line).

4. Lift you foot off the clutch until you feel it take, and then wait until the green lights, then lift off all the way, and then launch the thing.

5. 2nd gear change will come very quickly, so try not to bounce it off the limiter too much.

6. change at about 8000rpm.

7. When you go over the finish line keep your foot down all the way over the line. You will probably have to change into 5th going over the line.

8. Don't put your foot anywhere near the brake......just use the gears to slow down. (I've done this and I slid all over the track)

Also.........you don't need to go as soon as you see the green, just take your time. The timer starts when you cross the starting line.

This probably sounds all straight forward. I am a very conservative Drag..er...So, I hope some of the advice sounds ok. :w00t:

Thanks Stacey, that helps a lot. How far is the run off after the line?

Yes , I think it's more than the lenght of the track. You will have plenty of time to slow down. On my 1st go I ended up with my front wheels in the 'sand trap' (it's actually all rocks and gravel), so try and avoid that if you can.

And yes, have fun as it is a really good buzz. Also another bit of advice I tell people is to keep it as simple as you can. I always seem to be consistant with my times becasue I dont have much to worry about or remember to do.......other than launching. Reducing the amount of things you have to switch on/off or spin before hand is a good thing. IMO. :)

Hope it's not raining in Sydney.

I was shitting the first time i raced - was at the old ECRaceway main straight. BUT by the time I got into 3rd gear it felt natural and safe.

You'll be right but it's handy to have someone walk out onto the racing surface and show you where to stage so you don't roll through the lights and stage with your back wheels (I did this once @ ECR). Trust me you look like a dick when you do this :)

For some reason they don't let you get a 3/4-GTR lead on the line :O

Don't forget "The Book" either!!!! <----- single most important thing to remember.

Thanks Adrian, yeah it'll be good to have a chat beforehand as I said, I'm nervous as hell.

I reckon talking about it anymore than you are will just make you more nervous. Just line up on the line (little white lines either side of your lane), wait for the green light, foot on the throttle and brake once you go past the big digital timing displays. Treat it like a traffic light grand prix and you'll be right.

Most people have trouble just finding the start line (how I have no idea) so dont even try doing a 12sec pass on your first run, just get to the finish line, grab your time slip and line up again.

Edit: I'll be there just after 6pm as always, look for me in the hotdog line :)

    • The filter only filters down to a specific size. Add to that, the filter is AFTER the pump. So it means everything starts breaking your pump even if its being filtered out.
    • Just like in being 14mm too small (296mm) makes it not fit, being 14mm too big (324mm) it also won't fit. You want to find the correct rotor.
    • @GTSBoy Ok so that was the shops problem...they showed R33 rotors on R34 page and i did not know 296 do not fit(and are for R33) Yes i bought "kit" with rotors and pads. Pads are ok(i have GTT calipers front and rear). They have some 324mm but no 310mm. So i dont know if they would fit. I have 17inch LMGT4s So another question. Can i fit those in the rear or they are just "too" big for that?
    • I started removing the tank a while back with the intent to give it a proper clean. Got to a bolt that I couldn't undo completely due to a diff being in the way, so just said f**k it and siphoned the gluggy old fuel out and called it a day. Looking it the tank it looks less corroded than the one in the pics for that billet hanger from Frenchy's anyway. Isn't it the fuel filters job to worry about this stuff? I scraped off most the crusty shit of the hanger but will give it another go before reinstall coz maybe the fuel and return pipes are also full of gunk  
    • Pretty sure it is a common fault. I believe this is the only part you need, but don't quote me as I don't have a V36.  I also believe it is a bit of a pain to change and the device needs to be encoded to the car once it is replaced, so may need someone with the right tools.
