I had tubo back exhaust, SAFC2, and 10psi of boost before I installed my hybrid cooler. After the install I had to regap my plugs and get the safc retuned as the car was braking down due to the higher and more efficient air flow. Please note thats without increasing the boost, once tuned it made a huge difference heaps more power and I could not notice the difference in thottle responce. Very worth while mod from my experience but do your exhaust, gap plugs to 0.8, and get a SAFC2 or Power FC first. I made 195rwkw on 10psi not holding boost. I suspect I would be making just over 200rwkw now, its holding 11.5psi to red line, I have installed also a sheilded Pod filter and a cold air feed.

I think what most are trying to get at is the intercooler it self won't actively give you a power increase but by fitting it you will enable the motor to produce the power it's capable of by removing the restrictive, heat soaked and poorly positioned factory unit! An aftermarket unit will

A, generally flow better due to the piping and larger core size/design . . . . and

B, cool better due to sheer size and positioning for max air flow through it

So the combination of a cooler charge and less restriction (less pressure drop) = a cooler slightlty higher pressure charge at the manifold which we all know means a better burn and more power!

And alot more consistant charge temps to boot!

So getting a SAFC or PowerFC is the first thing to get then an FMIC???

Cuz i have the same mods exactly..(HKS Pod, Turbo Back, Stock BOV) n running 10-11 Boost... according to the Stock Boost Gauge.. which is 3/4 way up to Full..

Can u Increase the Boost More once u get a FMIC??

Chirping gears doesn't prove a car is fast. It simply proves you have a very good clutch, hard tyres and slam the gear damn hard.

Chirping gears is stupid, it puts un-necessary strain on gearbox's and will stuff your diff early. :(

Every R33 I've seen run more than std boost picks up power when you drop an fmic on them. Its not much, hardly noticable.

R32's... Well mine didn't.

but it's hektik to chirp on gear change.

I can chirp all 5 wheels (including the spare in the boot) 6th gear on my rb20 powered gts4, down hill, on drag slicks..

i have exhaust, filter, 11 psi boost and a boost gauge that has 7 colours.

respetk

oh I forgot to mention I have a fmic...

NO NO NO

Install the fmic FIRST then do a Safc or Pfc.... otherwise you're up for 2 tunes, like me! doh. I had a safc yadayadayada etc, put in an Apexi fmic, too much airflow stuffed up the safc tune, couldnt boot it anymore, needed a retune (although I had a Sitc waiting to be tuned too, so I needed to go on the dyno again anyway)

I should have been more specific like tangles said get your intercooler installed then install you safc or power fc or you will be up for 2 tunes like us. Many have found with the increase of airflow the stock ECU cant handle it and will result on overly rich AFR which causes flat spots hench the recomendation of SAFC or Power FC. Personly I would not run anymore than 11psi

cheers

But because the current one has the filter direct into the AFM inlet, you effectively have the best chance of a completely symmetric air flow profile upstream, and in, the AFM, whilst the aftermarket inlet thingo has a (small, to be sure) bend between the filter and the AFM. That would bias the flow to the outside of the bend (downstream of the bend) which might well reduce the size of the signal seen by the AFM, for the same total flow rate. Having said that: If you're proposing to make your inlet look like a hybrid of your existing one and the aftermarket one, such that there is no bend where the filter is clamped on... then I say it will be just fine. If there is going to be such a bend, then, if you can align the insertion of the AFM blade such that it is at right angles to the plane of the bend, then there is a better than even chance that the centreline velocity where the blade is will remain more or less the same, and the velocity will just be a little faster to the outside of that, and just a little slower to the inside. **This is not professional investment advice and you should consult a suitably qualified ouija board, tea leaves or the intestines of a goat for more accurate prognostication.
    • Hi Tao, Thanks for your reply.  It's been a while and I managed to get the valve stem seals replaced with the head on the car.  Unfortunately this didn't solve my issue, the car still smokes a lot after idling (to be honest during idle you can see a bit of blue smoke from the exhaust), same after deceleration. I will try disconnecting the valve cover breathers, do I leave the PCV valve in? By engine oil drain pipe, do you mean the turbo oil drain?
    • What about if you just give it direct 12v and earth?
    • Hi guys . Can someone help me  I bought an Android screen for my Nissan fuga but it won't turn on
    • My guesstimate, with no real numbers to back it up, is it won't effect it greatly at all.its not a huge change in position, and I can't see the air flow changing from in turbulence that much based on distance, and what's in front of it. Johnny and Brad may have some more numbers to share from experience though.
