Hey. Im currently selling my R33 to get a 4 door car for a new job but with the money left i am considering making a weekend car which i can occationally take to the track to try drifting. Now i have been toying around with ideas of what i should do and what is the best way to spend my money.

1st idea is to import a R32 GTST. Not sure exsactly yet how cheap i can get one for but basically just have coilovers, turbo back zorst, fmic, bit more boost, strip inside a bit and make a 2 seater.

2nd idea is to import a S13 silvia or 180. Drop in an RB20DET and yer as above coilovers, zorst, fmic, boost, strip inside and make 2 seater (basically are anyway haha)

3rd idea S13 or Silvia with an SR20DET. Same work again.

Alternatly there is always a AE86 already set up for like 6grand haha but would rather stay with a nissan.

What would peoples recomendation be?

Not 100% sure what i want to do yet just tossing around ideas with what i would like to do as i dont want to sell my 33 and then have just a boring 4 door work car :D

Please give me possitive and negative points of each idea and the best choise?

Heaps of people getting on the KE70/AE71 Corolla bandwagon. Virtually a 4 door Ae86. And can be bought for $300 lol. AE71 is the pick as 4ag engines bolt straight in.

Installing an RB20 into a s13 is no good for weight distribution. Wich is very important in drift.

From your idea's I would try find the most extensivly modded R32 you can import..

Dude.....with the cash you will prob have left over......won't be able to get a 32 and make it slide(well prob could BUT) Don't even think about putting a RB20det in a silvia or 180! They came out with a SR for a reason. So obviously the best possible choice would be to buy a silvia or 180 WITH a SR20det..........you can get just as much power out af a SR as you can RB, Pity it wasn't a little earlier coz Nozilla on here in SA was selling his Sil80 for about 9.5k with mods. But anyways option 3 is the only option and value for money! Oh and also....... they are lighter than skylines.

didnt really think about the whole weight with the RB20 silvia/180.

Ive been finding a few good SR silvias etc at pretty good prices. Think ill look into them a bit more.

What would be sorta MUST BE mods for a SR silvia.

Deffinatly coilovers adjusted right, turbo back zorst and fmic + a little extra boost for some more go. What other options would be good to take?

Well your pretty much on the spot with the coilovers, exhaust and FMIC. maybe also a EBC so boost is efficient and no lag! pod filter, clutch. and then ofcourse bracing and sway bars. Dude the list can go on and on, It's about prioritising that list and available funds. What other cars would be good??? well it's upto you there is always sprinters and R31's......depends on what sort of car and how old it is that you want to drive. Silvia and 180 is at least a bit newer for that extra comfort(sort of) when driving on the streets.

First priority in drift is a good LSD! My mate just bought a new Cusco wich has the nifty feature of being able to change between 1.5 and 2 way.

Next is a set of of damper adjustable coilovers in good condition. Castor rods are nice to have too. A good seat will help you control the car better.

Then start looking for a bit more power. A oil cooler is a good idea if you start getting serious.

SEAT!!!!!!!

Why does everyone forget this........ to have the most amount of fun possible, and to get good..you will need a seat, easpecially if you get an SR20 sil / 180, those seats are useless.

You will spend most of your time fighting with your body to keep it in place...no fun there. With a seat i garuntee you will be more confident and can concentrate more on what is needed behind the wheel.

As for cars.... then no doubt an S13...their chassis is almost unbeatable when it comes to slidability. And the SR20 is perfect for drift, light weight.... and alot of low down tourqe... much needed for drift.

i think in priority of mods for drift.....

- DIFF

- coilovers

- seat

Then whatever tickles your fancy.... cooler + boost if you want, and castor rods will make things easier etc

dude - jump on the r31 bandwagon

buy a cheap r31 - one with a decent driveline and 5 speed manual

buy a s13 brake upgrade as they fit right in nicely

buy a set of coilovers

some sway bars and a strut brace

attack the dif with a welder and lock it :ermm:

do some simple intake and exhaust mods

done

fully sic torquey r31 drifter for bout $3000

(the rb30e is nice and torquey for 2 and 3 gear drifts)

then of course u can get a vl turbo kit for it or do a rb30/25 hybrid, still with torque but more powerful

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
