yeah look at the positive, you ran a PB and just a bees dick off 8 seconds.

man i was devestated when they red lighted you. i was sitting just at the start line and everything seemed cool, you were getting set in the car and then.... redlight. I thought that just in the interest of the fans they would give you some leeway considering it takes some time to get a 9 (or should that be 8) second GTR into stage after a massive crowd pleasing burnout. no body in their right mind wants to see the top qualifier out in the first round. i was going to come and find you afterwards but thought you would have had enough of people coming up to say tough luck. please come back and try again. :)

The rules don't change in the interests of the fans - what kind of crap is that?

Adrian

well where do i start. I would like to thank the guy that showed me the video of the red light and i must say that the video shows 16 seconds but that is wsid 4 you. But i am trying to find some footage of my 9.077 @ 156.25. If anyone has some could you please email me

Theo

As you know, Andrew Hawkins has that run on video...but....you know how precious he is on breaking the time code on the tape....did'nt he show you at the end of the day as promised??

I wasn't there, didn't see it and have no association with anyone involved.

But I have seen similar happen before when you race an easy/simple to stage street car against a difficult to stage dedicated drag car that has to go though a pre run routine after a decent sized burn out. It's an old trick and it obviously still works.

Unless the starter is aware of what is going on, it will happen again.

:P cheers :P

it's not crap at all mate. i never said change the rules so you mustnt have read my post clearly. considering it's at the starters discretion you would think he would have taken a few things into consideration before manually starting the tree. that's not changing the rules at all. it's called using your noggin in the way you enforce them. dont get me wrong i'm not saying he is some kind of start nazi and that theo was robbed it was a combination of things. his opponent was very quick into stage, he was slow into stage and the starter made a judgement call on when to start the tree. personally i think it was the wrong call.

Fantastic ET and trap for Theo, well done.

Sport Compact racers in general have f**k all racecraft. In fact it's embarassing sometimes to see how clueless we are sometimes in doing simple things like a burnout and staging.

The starter is not going to make allowances for anyone .. he's going to activate the tree on anyone who takes too long to stage. You'll see in in group one races.

And finally, if Adrian had a crew member helping him stage a street car then I will laugh at him very loudly.

Just putting me in the water properly, mate. Bwaaaahahahahah!!!!

I don't need those specialista, dipping the toe in the staging beam manouveres! :D

Difficult to stage? But it's a street gtr! :D

after a massive crowd pleasing burnout.

if i am not mistaken it was the smallest burnout i have ever seen Theo do..... as has been said though, the rule states 10 seconds and as has been said he was given 16 so i guess nobody can complain

You are kiddin right? You need someone to line you up in the water!!! hahahaha! You never cease to amaze me! For what.... a mid to high 11 second car! Wake up. :P

I'm confused Beer Baron.

You suggested that he should have given the other racer some leeway i.e. extra time to stage "just in the interests of the fans". That's the least fair thing I've heard so far.

How do new guys to drag racing get training in "racecraft"?

Do ANDRA run courses?

Is there a section in the ANDRA manual on "racecraft"?

Not really the question, 16 seconds is not "too long to stage", I have seen Group 1 cars take 30 to 40 seconds. The problem with the rule is that it is written with the assumption that the 2 cars are equal in their staging requirements. In SC that is obviously not the case. Hence the need for the start line official to look at the cars involved. If one guy is deliberately tardy, then that's is quite different to one who is going through his start line routine.

You'll see in in group one races

True, but's that's with cars of more equal performance and complexity. This was clearly not the case in this instance

The bottom line for me is to look at the intent of the rule, which is to stop someone from gaining an advantage from being tardy in staging (eg; cause the other car to overheat). Was this likely, I don't think so.

:P cheers :ermm:

There is.

There is also an advantage in holding the other car in stage for too long, particularly with automatic transmission cars as Shane has mentioned but also with regular manual cars. Holding the revs at 6000rpm for 15-20 seconds while waiting for someone to stage is enough to throw anyone off. Overheating isn't the only reason to string your competitor out... It's tactics plain and simple. The timing rule is there to stop it getting out of hand.

Watch a couple of rounds of prostock and you'll see how it works - makes for exciting racing when policed correctly.

adrian i'm not going to keep repeating myself but if you are confused it's because you drew inferences from my post that were incorrect. You claimed that i had asked they 'change the rules for the fans'. Not true, what i was expressing was that it's my belief that the starter could have looked at all the factors present at that time, and used his discretionary power (which i understand he has) to ensure we had a race. having theo dq'd for being a little tardy to full stage was the lamest result for all involved (the officials, fans, theo etc etc).

you may not care what the fans think either, but without people paying to go and watch your fledgling category will go nowhere fast. they are what make your chosen form motorsport happen. you dont want to end up like some forms of motorsport where the only people there are the ones competing...

Fair enough mate but one thing you've missed.

having theo dq'd for being a little tardy to full stage was the lamest result for all involved (the officials, fans, theo etc etc)...

Except for the competitor in the other lane who was just sitting there ready to race.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
