This is also why you break gearboxes.

Solid centre clutches are no good people!

It honestly doesn't phase me all that much. Obviously I don't like breaking boxes, but it's not like I have to replace a GT-R box or anything...

I'm more angry about missing Sandown rather than the $300 it cost me for a replacement gearbox.

No requirement to register for spectators this time round, so just turn up. They would have posted the information if that were the case.

Weather update -

Sunday Few showers. Min 8 Max 13

I'll take weather.com.au's forecast thanks :)

So your sticking with a solid centre??? Thats kinda overkill isnt it? Has to be hard on gearboxes as well....well thats what the theory would have you believe...the actual difference?!?!?!

And Scostman, you know Als car would beat your thing, you need another 80rwkws before you can hope to beat the likes of the AVO R33 GTST or a GTST car like ALs...if only INASNT wasnt selling his car...it would be a good jigger

Car is still not bloody sold either and was gonna have another crack at Sandown tomorrow but was stuck in QLD for the last month so no time to get car ready.

Saw a tasty 930 Turbo i was tempted to swap the R33 for.

...too damn cold? LOL. Any chance you get the fang a car around a track is good, cold, hot, rain whatever. Good things come to those that wait so when the old girl is back in one peice im going to be driving the thing in my session, any session they will let me in >_<

It was a cold day, but the weather held up pretty well, only a few light showers which didn't really soak the track, except in one session where quite a few people spun....

Wasn't a lot of cars this time, which meant heps of track time and short waiting periods. A few PB's to be had, Aaron with a 1:19.1 maybe quicker in the last session??, Andrew (BBGTR) with a 1:23.5 and myself with a 1:21.5. Snowy posted a 1:22.4 I think, not sure about Matt and Ray...

So overall a great day, great to see all the usual SAU Vic members lingering around in the pits aswell....

BRING ON WINTON!!!

We can't wait to see your car finally back in action Brisby!

Very pleased to see everyone out there yesterday. And yes, it sure was a bit chilly.

Snows - *sigh. Using your new found skills for evil already? How quickly they forget... don't bite the hand that feeds

Man was yesterday cold!!! I didnt even bring my beanie to this country, left it in the UK for my brother. Have to go and buy one now

Well done to the people with PB's and Snowy, you artistic skills have improved 10 fold

Good to see so many skylines tearing 'round the track. Twas my first track meeting with WRX/SAU, and first time at Sandown, hope to get to a few more rounds. The flaggies/officials were fantastic braving the arctic weather. My best lap was a bit off the pace at 1:25.19 but seeing as I'm an old fart (relatively), new at this game, and was only hoping to get under a 1:26 it was "mission accomplished" :D .

Congratulations to the guys for all the PB's.

Sorry about the "anxious moment" near turn three when I nearly t-boned a black R34, one of the 3 cars (which I joined  ) spinning in front of me.

My car seems to have developed a problem ?? turbo oil seal given out at the end of the meeting - using about 600ml oil per 100km! Blue smoke from exhaust etc. Taking it to Ben the GTR-meister for diagnosis and management next week.

Cheers,

Neil

?? See you guys at Winton

    • As I've said elsewhere, I am using the stock intercooler piping path in the engine bay, and a return flow cooler, and making ~250 rwkW (without any effort put into trying to turn it up past there just yet) and expect to be able to make some more, and frankly, I would be perfectly happy with 260-270rwKW. This is peak road Skyline usability territory. You go past there and, sure, the car will snap necks more when it's on boost, but it will also break shit all the time, cost a (even larger) fortune in tyres, etc etc. Anyway, I also do not like the over-the-fan pipe path, and you don't have to do it.
    • I see, honestly I’m not too fussed about the looks. The only reason to go plenum is to make the piping easier instead of the classic over the rad etc.
    • Not easy to quantify wrt something like how many fractions of a second slower it would be over 0-100. But given that a 250-300rwkW car is able to do that launch sprint in 5-6 sec (and faster with appropriate tyres, and surface)..... giving up as much as a second would feel like torture. A ~450HP capable turbo is not going to make lots of boost in the 2000-3000 rpm range. So, whilst with some boost on hand it will be faster accelerating in that rev range than your engine currently is NA, it will not feel like a fast car until the boost is solidly in. You know what your car feels like right now when you open it up at 2000rpm. if you've ever been in an actual fast car, you will appreciate that the NARB25 is.... not exciting. Well, add some boost and it will be better. But shorten the intake runners and it might not be better at all. It might come out better, but it could end up feeling the same. For me, it's not the 0-X km/h sprints that matter. It is easy to fry the tyres with anything over 200 rwkW. You can't use all the power available in 1st and 2nd anyway, you have to modulate the throttle. What matters is how the car reacts when you're driving in traffic in 4th or 5th and have maybe 2000 rpm on board, and you want/need to add some speed quickly, and don't have time for the downshift. It won't make boost, it will be all NA (at the speeds we're talking about - remember how fast you're going at 2000 in 4th! and don't plan on breaking the limit by too much.) So giving away NA torque is not what I would consider practical for a street car. And retaining that NA torque builds boost faster which makes the car faster. The flashy plenum is not actually better, unless you're looking at a track car where you can keep it on the boil all the time.
    • So how much difference does it make you think? Like 1 second in the 0-100?  I was have smaller turbo so hopefully that spools quick GTX2871.  currently it’s NA so you can imagine pretty slow, but I do want fast accusation a little as there’s not many places I’ll be driving where I go over 80 even near me. So 0-60 and 0-80 targets
