I have been waiting for a towing reimbursement for 3 months.

I have called a number times and sent through all details twice, I was informed it would be sent. But still nothing?

I understand that this is not a wingeing thread but I cant see anything happening and its over $200 so I'll leave my comments at that.

Please call me.

I just thought I'd share my experiences.

Last year Just Cars wanted $2068 for R33 GTSt, 23yo, gararged, minimal mods, rating 3. Famous wanted $1950 for the same.

At the time I went with 3rd party coz it was $350 and I couldnt find $2k.

Its up for renewal so rang Just Cars and said that I've moved and added a set of 18" wheels, and she said rating 2 will be $1289. I was like WTF!!! Thats great! I then rang Famous and they said go with Just Car

As I understand it there arent many insurers that offering 3rd party fire in theft in NSW.

Someone else may be able to further clarify this one

Insurers cannot offer third party + fire + theft in NSW: there is no provision for it under NSW law unfortunately.

As for AAMI, I was told by a quite knowledgable spray painter / repairer to steer well clear of AAMI because they well send your car to absolute dodgiest/cheapest place they can find without exception, and that generally they are a PITA to deal with so repairers don't exactly make an effort.

LW.

I work fulltime and after all my weekly expenses I have trouble with coming up with $50 spare so i'm thinking about chucking half on a CC and paying the other half cash and then just spending the next 2-3mths paying off the CC.

A new job offer came up today actually so I may not even have a Skyline by the time my Rego/Insurance is due

ok i just bought an 97 R33 4 door Gts-T. i have it insured with just car.. its costing me $2700 a year its insured value is $20,000 and has 17" mags.... from wat i can gather this kinda pricing aint bad considering that i am 20 years old... have made 1 claimin the last year ( the handbrake on my 85 bluebird faild LOL), i mean if famous can better that i want to hear about it, coz every other company literally CKOCKED when they heard of an accidint less than 3 years ago.

$1500 for Famous, $1800 for Just Car. Famous wins for me. I've also never had a problem getting hold of someone when ringing them, but maybe I'm just lucky. Remember they're in WA, so anyone ringing from the eastern states is unlikely to get through at 9am.

of course, the real measure of an insurance company is when you need them to pay up... If you've made a claim on any insurance company, feel free to go to my web site at www.r34skyline.com and write up your experiance,,

As previously stated in this thread the only positive that i can come up with for Famous is that they have pay by the month unlike JCI. That is all...................................

I concur...

I recently had a not-at-fault accident, but, Famous wouldn't see it my way and gave up persuing the at-fault party at the first sign of conflict... it was like they couldn't be f***** helping me out! I do realise why they said no, but, giving up on me like that and expecting me to pay closer to $1800 per annum for an attitude like that just doesnt cut it with me!

So outta frustration of having to part with $1000 i started looking around for a better deal... i went crawling back to JustCars. Well, like previously mentioned here, JC's attitude is second to none.

They quoted me $1309 per annum for Full Comp on a R33GTS-T Type M with 'zorst, front pipe, wheels, intake, turbo timer and suspension mods with an excess that came to 1150 - currently due to my age, i'm 24.

I informed JC's that i had made a claim with Famous, i had a few speeding fines and i was shocked when i was quoted this... best quote ever.

So all this definately outweighs the lack of the pay-by-month... i will be switching back to JC very soon.

JC are the best on following through with stuff...recently had a guy drive into me..they were onto it in a flash, had the car booked in for repair within a week without any hassle!

Great service from them, well worth the money.

Can i just ask what age you are as im planning on calling famous but im only 23

Although I have been fortunate enough to not need to claim yet, Famous has been very helpful with all my enquiries. Their quote to me was exceptional also.

Last Friday after breaking my windscreen I called them to let them know, they had a recommended Novus as the repair outlet and said if i called them they would simply send the bill back to famous. I called novus without success and ended up taking the car to obriens as I didnt want to stuff around. I rang Famous on Monday and let them know and they said "no problem - send us the receipt and we will send you a cheque in reimbursement"

Pretty good service so far I say.

Please explain. Was quoted $1300. Ok Asked if i could pay by the month they said this incurs an additional 10%. Ok that's pretty standard. But 1300 + 10%=1430. Ok they say they want 2 months up front to start of. I said fine so that will be 119 times 2=$238. They say no 1430 divide by 10 and times by two=286. I said would you not divide by 12 to obtain the monthly amount and they say no we dont do that. For what ever reason if you do it this way instead of 1430 for the year i would pay $1716 an extra 286 on top. I've said it before and i will say it again. Famous G.F.Y. ps go and do a maths class or two.

Maybe they just want to charge you more because they thought you sounded like a dipshit.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
