Thanks nick...

But dont you have a gtst for your daily driving duties???

plus do you drive as much as 30-40k a year ??

I drive it to work in traffic on a regular basis actually, and as above, its very easy to putt around town in, evening in peak hour.

yes we used avgas for a while as we have the use of a 'book' to buy it, but it's a bit of a hassle to get out there and pick it up. you are right it's not that bad price wise though (just under $2 per litre last time) compared to around $1.60 for the extreme. this car is a high comp 2 litre, built with head work, cams, carillo rods, forged pistons, and 55mm bore webbers (fuel!!!111). we run a PWR alloy rad, and a earls oil cooler. so it has all the best gear. making around 220hp. and reving to as high as you want... lol usually around 8000rpm or with me in it i'm kind and take it to about 7500rpm max.

maybe we should switch back to the avgas, pull a finger out and stop being so lazy!

it's interesting to note all the different smells the fuels have. the LMS is the most hard core, it almost smells like an alchohol based fuel.

I notice that at ~3,000 rpm the power has gone from 82 rwkw to 105 rwkw, that’s a 28% increase. That is definitely noticeable and certainly worthwhile having.

We have been using Shell Optimax Extreme 100 ron exclusively since it became available in Sydney in the R33GTST. It has a PFC running the default ignition timing which knocks noticeably (dash warning) on 98 ron. In several months running the 100 ron we have not seen any dash warnings and the logged knock levels are less than 20. I have modified the injection maps for a target A/F ratio of 12 to 1.

I have heard all of the ethanol stories, eats fuel lines, blocks injectors, roots fuel pumps and gives your unborn two heads. So I have pulled the injectors a couple of times, checked the flow rates and guess what? No changes. Also I have cut the last 3 fuel filters open and guess what? No decomposed fuel hoses in there either. We also log fuel pressure and guess what? The fuel pump is showing no signs of dying. Sorry, I can’t test the unborn baby theory.

I have checked with everyone that I now who is running Shell Optimax Extreme 100 ron in their Skyline and I have yet to find anyone who can report eaten fuel lines, clogged injectors, blocked fuel filters or failed fuel pumps.

My suggestion, get on with it and reap the benefits.

:P cheers :)

PS; if you like smell, you should try Elf TurboMax, now that's a killer odour

Finally somone that can answer a question ive been wanting to ask for a while...

How is the GTR as a daily driver doing that many Ks ?

I do the same amount of KMs per year.....and thats in GTT, is the GTR too hardcore for daily driving doing that many Ks ?

Cause even now I sometimes wish I had a second more "comfy" car for daily driving.....

The car is a great daily driver, plenty of low end with std suspension its fine on the roads, keep it under 3000rpm and it drives like a 2.6lt SSS pulsar!

nice work paul. my only question is which 100ron fuel? was it optimax extreme? I am getting curious about using it in my car. we just switched from avgas to extreme for the race car and didnt really notice any drop in performance, and the extreme is easier to get, and cheaper (not by much though). in fact we were testing it for the first time the other day at Aarons day. and used it again this weeked with no problems.

Optimax extream

if you like smell, you should try Elf TurboMax, now that's a killer odour

ELF moto 124 smells like lollies...but is also very carcinogenic...damn!

Well done on the results with the 100 Paul....Stacey will be using this fuel for next years ANDRA sport compact events.

The change was very noticable on the track, since the tune I have managed a EC and Wakefield track day, the car has heaps more grunt and I have eliminated 2nd gear from both tracks, the car pulls so strong at 3000, to 3500 there is no need to drop it to second as it only rips up the tyres. Im very happy!

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
