Hi all,

I took Wednesday off from work to take care of the other half.... my skyline. I took my car to an exhaust shop to fit my Batmbl split dump/front pipe and catco high flow cat at 8am. As my time with Matt started at 1pm and I live on the northside, I needed it back by 11am. No probs said the exhaust place, at 11:30 I finally get a call and pick her up. Guess what, they put one of their stickers on my back window!!! God I hate that.

After a nice drive down the Pacific highway I get there slightly late. Matt has a small but very good shop, one of his mates was there helping him out with a monster 32 GTR. It had some problems and needed to be pulled apart and Matt doesn't do major mechanical work.

Matt spent about 2 and 1/2 hours tuning and made some major gains over the previous tune at another shop, obviously it had a lot to do with the new exhaust parts. It missed once on the dyno and on the road test drive. So he pulled out the spark plugs and regapped them and it was all sweet. Matt only charged me for two hours on the dyno, he's a cool guy, easy to get along with but wont bullshit you.

As you can see from the dyno chart the power flattens at 5000, thats because the AFM is maxing out. I have a FMIC, EBC, PowerFC, standard turbo at 13.5 psi with Apex power intake and the exhaust I mentioned before with a 3.5 inch catback. I'm pretty happy with the way its going, just need a new Z32 AFM. After I get one I'll try installing it myself or put out the call to northside SAU members to give me a hand if needed :O .170rwkw at 5000 isnt too bad and after a drive up Mt. Mee(unfortunate name) I'm very impressed with the midrange torque and power.

Well as you know I installed my Z32 first thing in the morning before going on the dyno with Matt....

I did a thread in the DIY section on how to install the afm. But me being a northsider im happy to give you a hand or do it for ya if you need...

Is it true that Matt dose'nt like touching Wolfs?

Yes, he hates touchin Wolf's and will only do it if really needs doing.

Other then that, good to see another write up and good comments about Matt.

I'm gettin my z32 AFM shortly and will be requiring another tune!

Hoping to get this all done before Track day though :D

Autronics are his most favourite, then the fc he said.

when i asked him what ecu i should run (26/30 ~700hp, circuit gtr) he said fc over the autronic as the major advantage is the fc has a knock sensor, also will do everything it needs to

    • The powder coating came in at $250 EACH. The TRX rims got a coat of clearcoat on the outside only.
    • Bit wet, but YUMMY
    • Keeping in mind that I am currently getting flat 10 L/100km on my RB25DET, which means >>500km/tank. I would test this car for vacuum leaks, check codes and AFM signal with NissDataScan as D says, check plugs, do a compression check while they are out.
    • It is hard to be specific half way across the world...but it *seems* like it might have a minor issue. Is the idle stable and does it rev smoothly? I would not expect any pops out of what I am assuming is a standard ECU, standard tune, standard exhaust. You can use Nissan Data Scan to find out exactly what is happening when it runs, the cable/software is reasonably affordable if you are not planning on changing the ECU (which hopefully you are not with an NA skyline) BTW your mileage may not be that far off, these are heavy old tech cars, and being NA might mean you use a heavy foot to keep up with traffic....
    • Hey guys! Y'all are the masters so figured I'd check in on a few items here. - My engine sounds ever-so-slightly more raspy than the other NA RB25s I've listened to. It's barely noticeable but definitely a slightly different sound. - When I back off the throttle at high RPM, I will sometimes get a pop out of the exhaust, assuming this can be diagnosed as misfire. Some history on the car: - Had an exhaust leak in auction sheet but was claimed to be fixed by seller (bought from USA importer).  - Car's coil packs and sparks were replaced when it was sold to me, but unsure on what the gap is and whether the coil packs are correct.  - A prior mechanic had misdiagnosed a pilot or throwout bearing sound as LSPI/detonation. Had played with timing a bit, pops/raspy sound of engine just got worse. Got timing reset. - Had failed emissions a few times. First time went in as is, failed. Second time, replaced cat, still failed, running rich as hell. Third time replaced o2 sensor, passed. Car still smells gassy though. - Timing belt and valve cover gasket also replaced.  - Gas mileage is... low. about 350-400K per tank.  Any idea if I'm having any serious issues here or does this all sound like normal old NA RB stuff and I'm fine to drive it with the pops/slightly raspy engine? If it'll help, I can get drop a video of the sound of the engine.
