Window Tints. How Dark?

I'm in need of tints. (i said tints) lol.

30% is legal, but dont seem to be very dark.

I've heard the rear window is exempt from this rule. In other words, you can have it as dark as you like.

Is that right?

Also, anyone ever had an insurance claim rejected because the tints were illegal. Been warned about that too.

In that photo, the R32 on the right has the "darkest legal" tint which is 30%

the one on the left is 20% (darker than legal).

What tints do you have?

it depends on what you want really.

when i was going to get my tints done on my r32 i was looking at getting 30% but wen i got there decided to go 15% as the 30% was a little too light for me.

the 15 is great, not too dark in broad daylight, and u cant see inside at nite assuming theres no light shining onto the front window where you can see in a little.

give greg a call from unique window tinting, his numbers in a post of the window tint group buy. you get it done in hornsby somewhere.

rofl Its very hard to see in the dark with the windows up at nite. But excellent for the day when its very hot.

My tints were already on the car in Japan, I "think" they are 15% but not confirmed.

Anything around 20% or lower and you will find it hard to see out to your side mirrors at night - this is the only thing stopping me from getting a tint of around that percentage.

Yeah you really have to look over your shoulder becuase your just can't see others properly but still i think if your causious enough and not lazy when merging then lower then 20%'ll be fine

I also drive with my fronts down most of the time unless it's raining so............ thats another reason why i didnt' care to much.

Not sure about other states, but in Victoria the rules for tinted windows also include light transferance for the rear window.

Your only alloud the back windwo as dark as you want on things like utes and vans ect. Ever window in NSW is 35% and front window is not alloud ot be tinited.

BTW the legislation came in in1994 so if you have a 93 model techencly you can get it as dark as you want as there were no laws for tinting in 93 against them

Apposibly thats 5% i don't have a picture witht eh fronts (i'll try and take one soon if anyones interested) however you can see the back triangle window.

I have 30% on my Black GTR to save any hassles with Police mainly, although is a little light for my liking.

And have 15% on my Daily driver Pajero and Magna which is perfect ie Hard to see into but easy to see out, and not overly dark for police attention (although illegal)

Do not go 5% as it really is impractical to see out of at night and 'looks' illegal

we get away with being 'dark-as' due to the Seraphic glass used in Japan - its not tinted and therefore passes ADR's.

whilst Id like to tint the front driver & passenger windows, thats illegal here in SA so I wont.

Dont know about having the rear window as dark as you want munkeyboy but like the others have said 30% is not dark at all. I have 20% on my lude and I rekon its perfect and never had any trouble from the cops before. Thats nuts micheal_1882 5% haha nice clean looking line btw.

thanks i'll try and get some picks up of the whole car, the actual drivers side and passanger looks darker then the ones you can see in the picture i think it's becuase it's like 1week old vs (how ever old the Japanese tint is)
