Not all the time But When taking off in 1st or 2nd I hear a grinding noise coming from the passenger side of the engine Not sure what it is, But I know it should be there

When I turn the car on I hear like a funny knocking sound from behind the radio?? Very weird sounds like morse code.

Also Stupid question but how do u turn on and off the fog lights?

Whats the best way to brighten up the dash?? i can hardly see my revs and speedo at nite time, my old dash in the silvia was very good.

Think thats about all other then that its a 1994 R33 s1 RB25DET with about 980000 on the clock.

That "knocking" behind the radio sounds like a common fault in 33's which has to do with the aircon unit, do a search and it will surely come up with some results. To fix it, you need a $60 odd part and a bit of patience but it is doable

If you mean clickign by knocking, it's a very common problem and apparently its a plastic cog thats had some gears sheered of it. Also i've herd to much effort to go to for fixing.

And yeah my s1 doesn't have foggies (driving lights) theres room to put them in but you will have to run wireing as i'm pritty sure there isnt' any.

I apologise if I'm stating the obvious, but R33s have a dimmer switch fitted during compliance. This means the dimmer could be hiding anywhere - have you found it and made sure it is on max?

If you have, it's fairly straightforward to remove the dash and swap the bulbs over. Most guys ditch the 3.4W stock bulbs and use 5W instead. With the dimmer in the R33s you can't go wrong. :laugh:

yeah dash lights should have a dimmer switch/dial... most likely just to the right of the steering column. On some cars turning it down makes it brighter.

Foggies were an option. Some S1 have globes in em, Some don't. If you have them from factory you should have another dial right alongside your headlight dial. I dunno the technical terms :)

Are you talking about the lights next to the indicators on the frontbar? My ones turn on but they're not bright enough to be foggies, I've always assumed they were extra parking lights as the ones in the headlight aren't that effective

OK... series 2 SHOULD have a dimmer installed. It was required for compliance. My car has been in Australia for more than 6 years, and it has it. (funky 80's amplifier dial!)

And yes, the lights next to your indicators are your DRIVING LIGHTS... they're not called fog-lights anymore. Europeans have fog lights for... fog! And they'd be a bright yellow. Ours are just white and only light up the road immediately infront of you, and more out to the sides.

Driving lights and fog lights are weak to drive with, sure, but they are quite bright to oncoming traffic. They are supposed to be used like headlights. i.e: not in suburbian areas, and not with cars infront of you or oncoming.

Series 1's might be dimmer than series 2 though... for those s1 owners that have them.

Noone has mentioned the grinding yet, so i'll take a stab at that one. Check your engine mount on that side. If not that, check your bushes or have pedders or something check them for you. =-]

I wonder what the Road Traffic Act says about driving lights. From memory, the $70 fine was for using fog lights - I had a mate argue his way out of a fine when he produced the owner's manual that called them driving lights.

when i didn't know which places were good, i tried pedders.They knew less about skylines than the japs know about common-bogan-dores

tink its another one of those some have and some dont parts. i got them on my s1 coupe, had to take to them with a saw to fit in my cooler but still work. and i have had a aftermarket dimmer switch fitted and also the park lights next to the head light were fitted for compliancing. looks like they were drilled out with a hole saw and lights fitted.

    • Nah that is not actually a lot. Just painting my GTR frontend and the little bits to make sideskirts/nismo flare pieces work correctly/fit on the sedan/mount up correctly came to about $7000. Is it a lot? Sure. None of this is economical. Economy would be shelling the car and buying a 2010 Corolla to commute in. The perspective of all of this is different.
    • I have the re003s’ on my 06 XT Forester Turbo and I highly rate them for street wet and dry
    • I don't see any issues here. I've been saying all along this is a big job, the price reflects that.  When the car comes back perfect I'm sure it will feel like money well spent. 
    • Remember, take original quote. Double it. Then add a bit more. It's how any project goes.
    • So, I started this repair and got as far as "fixing" the holes with some fibreglass. God all those years working on boats came back quickly. I decided I'd reach out to some rust guys just to see what they would say about it. I came across a guy about 40 mins away and went to see him. He said the windscreen needs to come out, that there might be some more bits around the windscreen and he'd quote them at the time. But his quote was $300 to remove and replace windscreen and $3k for the damage he can see. He said he could respray the roof for $1200 and the bonnet for another $800 (somebody has previously rattle canned it, its horrendous). This is $5300 + any small additional bits. It's a lot, I get that and the name of one of my fave youtube channels 'Not Economically Viable' comes to mind.  I'm not being financially rational, but I've taken him up on the quote. He's opening a new shop in November with more room, so we're waiting for that. I'll leave the currently missing headliner out until then. I'm looking forward to it being fixed and having the paint looking nice again (lots of clear coat issues on the roof too). / flame suit on.
