I'm guessing you are talking about Kris's and Nick's cars? They are using coppermix clutches which have a different setup to most twin plates. Both clutch plates drive a single hub. They rattle less than the normal types on idle, but they do rattle a bit under light load.

haha, yeah those are the two cars. and i know about the hub etc I saw the coppermix clutches in japan in pieces when nismo launched them! there are a few other manufactures using that idea too, but i thought the reason they dont rattle when on the pedal is because of the little springs around the edge that keep the plates captive?

I'm going to assume that i have a OS giken twin clutch plate too. I recently bought an R32 GTR skyline and was told it has a twin clutch plate. Having never driven a car with a twin clutch plate I didn't think much of it. I did notice and still notice now every time I put my foot on the clutch I get a rattle sound. It sounds like rattling light metal though cause it sounds very metallic almost like a series of bells going off. When it starts to catch though the rattling goes away. What I do find annoying though is if I draw the clutch back slowly when taking off no matter what rev I'm at it kind of "judders"? it doesn't slip but it catches and release, catches and releases so you get jerked about a bit and you can keep it up for a couple of seconds or lately I just pull the clutch all the way out and take off. It's not so much of a problem at the lights but it is when going over speed bumps when you ride the clutch a bit.......well I do anyway.

Other than that rattle sound which is annoying it's pretty good. I tested by putting it in 4th gear at 60 km/hr and flooring it and it didn't slip one bit.

Are there any alternatives to get a different clutch that doesn't rattle but still has the benefits of a twin clutch plate? what's a brass button clutch plate like? any others?

My old clutch in MY S13 made a vibration around 2000-3000 rpm, funny thing was it did it, but then we removed the clutch and put it back in and the vibration went. I'm guessing it was a balncing problem or we never put the plates and sandwich plates in the right way (ie alternate holes line up hole or not??) Hard to explain but yeah look at the way the plates go in and you'll understand.

    • Plan on the day will be to park trackside. Depending on space availability we will try put a small shade tent and a few of the cars on top of the hill inside turn 3, this is an easy to get to parking area with views of Turn 2, Turn 3, Turn 4 and Turn 5 and limited other pieces of the view around the track. IMPORTANT NOTE! One consideration from previous years is from memory the trackside parking sells out before the admission tickets, for that reason I encourage anyone planning on coming to buy tickets for parking now via the official website; https://www.worldtimeattack.com/ The type of parking you are looking for is 2 Day Park & View (Access Around Venue) Vehicle Pass Only Please note this does not include admission to the event itself, remember to grab that also, and kids under 12 get in for free!

    • Good time for a carbon roof
    • Not in any way aroused by any of those, except maybe the big AMGs. And that would break my never a Euro, ever, rule.
