As above.

Boost is just as important, depends how the autronic works, if it see's detonation does it pull timing?

An overboost could spark problems

Road car, oil temp i wouldnt worry about.

Boost/Water Temp/Oil Pressue

Track - boost/water temp/pil press/oil temp

I would have 4... well... i will be going for 3 of those as the PFC will do water temp for me

one guy on SAU is rebuilding his engine after the countersunk screws in the back of the oil pump came loose and slowly got worse til it failed completely... so this was progressive.

i dont trust any of the std guages other than speed and tacho, and i know they are wrong the further up the scale you go..

Any other circumstances where the oil pressure guage has been useful?

I really feel that the guage is a total waste of time, space and weight!

it depends where you put them

in the centre console i think would be useless as you cant easily see them while driving.

i would go for, if you must have guages

exhaust temp

get a wideband sensor and tune tune tune tune the pants off it

fair enough

i could handle the 100grams for a little peace of mind that i can see how much pressure the oils has is all...

Im in the same boat as you as in I have never had a liking to a plethora of gauges.

But as power goes up the need seems to be justified.

You have an Autronic, so you also have the option of getting a digital dash that will show all vitals and in most cases data log as well. They cost a bit for a decent unit but end up the same if not cheaper than buying individual quality gauges.

split oil line on a turbo... or any other leak related.

Even under filling from a mechanic/yourself and not checking the dipstick correctly. Small mistakes are possible.

All would cause low/lowering oil pressure etc.

If the oil was leaking out say onto the road via a small split you wouldnt intially notice without the gauge.

If you did have the gauge, you'd notice at a very quick glace that it was below normal.

So rather than getting so low that the oil-low light comes on. You actually have a much better chance at spotting it. Rather than giving it some high RPM and finding out there isnt enough to go around

doesnt the skyline already have an oil pressure guage and a boost gauge? So why would anyone need an aftermarket gauge?

because they are getting old enough to be horribly inaccurate.

std boost guage goes to 1 Bar max.. im running 18psi, and since i started running that, the std boost guage just doesn't work anymore, for boost or for vacuum (by not work it sticks and reads wrong, and at full boost it hard against the top of the guage)

coz the standard ones are shyt and to me inaccurate...

FATGTS-R- u say digital dash? i have the program for my laptop but its not very convenient to have my laptop hooked up every time i wanna drive the car, ive checked the autronic website, an i can't find any info on the digital dash, or anythin like it for an SM4

    • I'm actually not sure - I think it was "Stealth Performance" (It really is near impossible to find a FEMALE 1/8BSPT to 1/8NPT male at ALL) but having the thing leveraged on a 90 degree angle on a small aluminium fitting is not too smart. Also in not too smart, I've drilled out the center of the broken fitting so there's maybe 0.00001mm of thread to bite into, so yeah. I may have to get it drilled/tapped/plugged entirely. Given I could conceivably tap a thread/adapter/pressure line in any point in the oil system I suppose it's feasible to run a line to the Nissan Sensor to keep the dash working. Do these exist in AN fittings and the like? Like an AN fitting that has a NPT (or other?) thread as well for putting a sensor in?
    • I would agree.  There will be an amount of boost you could run safely with an otherwise factory system, but it would be low enough to not be worth the cost.  And if you are reliving your 20s, you know a 'little bit' was never enough. Personally, if I didn't want to spend the money, then stick with NA bolt-ons, and maybe a tune.
    • Fuark, at least the motor survived. What brand was the fitting that snapped?
    • Wrong question. There's no point in spending the rather large sum of cash and effort to add turbo, without taking it to the "sensible" limit of the motor itself. If you have to upgrade injectors, etc, then so be it. That is a tiny fraction of what it will cost you to turbo it.
    • Measure voltage at the starter solenoid terminal when the key is at start and it has clicked. If it is really low, then the suspicion falls on the ignition switch (contacts or wiring thereof) as causing a voltage drop instead of sending enough volts to throw the solenoid all the way to engage the starter itself. If it is a decent voltage, then the suspicion is on the solenoid. Might have s horted coil, or might hva dirty contacts. Rip the starter off, dismantle, clean up contacts and inspect winding. It might not be possible to see if there is a short in the winding though. I have a spare starter here that I could measure the resistance of the coil, as a guide to about what it should be, if you need a comparison. <parts hoarder>No you cannot have it.</parts hoarder>
