grrrrrrrrrrrr

the guy from VDO emailed again, and even with the nissan part number that i gave, he still says there is no VDO item!

I gave him the part number that was in the aus300zx.com website to see if he has that in his stupid computer. i have no idea why its not coming up as a listing...

will keep you posted.

Warren

ok more bad news..

the moron at VDO who is emailing me, still insists they don't have a OPS for us

he won't confirm that the 300zx sender works at all.. he is dodging the question coz he is a f**king moron

i'll have to do some more searching i think

is it 100% confirmed that its the same sensor for 300zx/R32/R33??

what about any other nissans

thanks

Just some observations that might help:

1. Genuine OPS from Nissan is around $150 (trade....add maybe $20 for retail).

2. OPS PN is 25070-30P01 (R32 GTR and GTS4, R33 RB25DET and Z32 300ZX). FAST does show an alternate number for some models (25070-55S60), but it also shows the -30P01 as the direct alternative.

3. The VDO OPS shown on the 300ZX link looks identical to the type fitted to local spec R31 Skylines (RB30) as standard. VDO supplied some parts for Oz spec R31's, inc the instrument cluster and some other sensors, basically to build up local content. Be warned that quality is not great.

well spokt to some people who have done this on their 300zx, and they have confimed that te unit does work fine, but still suffers from the same problem as the stock OPS

this leads me to believe that the problem is not the OPS unit itself, but something aboutthe way it is mounted or connected

there's nothing wrong with the stock OPS...

the only thing wrong with them is the fact that they're getting close to 15 years old and as such, are f**ked.

what happens is the rubber seal around them fails, and lets oil inside the unit itself.

from what i've heard, if you replace it with another factory one (or in this case a VDO one) it should be fine for another 15 years.

*note* this is what i've been told in terms of why they play up etc

well i have spoken to a good mate who is a member of aus300zx.com

he said he changed to the VDO sensor and it failed in 4 months

then he changed to the stock sensor and it has been ok for about 6 months so far

BUT.. he did some kind of electrical modification to the OPS before he putit back on

apparently (according to him) there's 2 plugs on the OPS, but the stock wire only connects to one of them

He grounded the other plug to the chassis... and he hasn't had a problem since...

apparently an autoelectrician told him to do this

I want to try it out, but haven't had time to try and get to the OPS

Hardcore thread bump.

Has any one used an aftermarket oil pressure sender to replace the factory unit?

I want to wire in an aftermarket oil pressure sender into the Vipec as a fail safe (if it sees less than 5psi to shut the engine down) but want to do it with a new oil pressure sender as my stock one acts up.

    • Before I get to the test day, just to finish off the android head unit. This is a demo from car start up....the standard/host system takes a few seconds to boot (same as all v37) but Android comes up quickly. In this vid I'm using the delivered launcher but have set the default to Agami since which is easier to navigate when if use primarily 5 apps. You can see the host system still takes over when required eg putting it in reverse, and you can switch between Android and not by holding the back button 3 sec. It is pretty responsive (fast) but you can see I had to press harder than expected a couple of times.  I still have the phone connected to the stock system, and that also seamlessly takes over Android music playing. v37-android-demo.mp4 The bigger reason that I put this in though is so that I can use Ecutek directly on the head unit. That gives me a dash with logging (up to 20MB only), high and low value warnings on any parameter etc etc. I've run a USB cable from the Ecutek OBD dongle to a USB input on the unit, easy. v37-ecutek-demo.mp4   The unit did freeze on the launcher the other day, I think Agami was trying to verify the license when it didn't have a data connection...will monitor and report back if there are any other problems but so far I'm very happy with the upgrade.
    • Nah that is just crappy GPS mapping, I did have a small excursion (cold tyres, damp track, surprise!), will post up that when I get a chance.
    • So 10/10 times that code is coil packs? I mean if that's the case ill drop the $400USD or so to replace them. I didn't know these cars threw codes before the issue became an issue.
