Sorry but to add to the whole "I found a dodgy 260RS" part of this thread.....

http://www.j-spec.com.au/list/5766 - $24k

Why dodgy? Until I read the wiki file I was unaware that S1 came with manual. But Autec S1, manual?

Why dodgy?

sorry but i dont buy bargains when i want something safe and reliable.

ill be in the market to pay around the 30-33k landed, complied and on road.

key emphasis needs to be made on reliable. RB26+high kilometers is a no go zone personally.

no, not always

I wanted to buy a cima off jspec and i said ok ill take it and they checked and it was already sold by another importer. sometimes the car is just gone so they mark it as paid/whatever.

on another note, just coz someone bought it doesnt mean they are on these forums my friend.

what did yours end up costing on road FMI

loving the 260's very nice indeed.

hey Ken, I think you may be mixing up the owner of Autech Tsukada (the famous japanese tuning shop: http://www.attkd.co.jp/index.html ) who was here recently (i met him whilst he was in sydney) with the Nissan Autech arm ( http://www.autech.co.jp/JP/index.html ). He doesn't work for nissan autech. he has his own seperate tuning business called autech. if you know what i mean. many people think they are one and the same. but he owns a workshop somewhere up near Tsukuba, I am planning to pay him a visit later this year. I loved the 32 he had at TAS earlier this year. He certainly seems to know his shit about tuning RB26s, but I dont think he will be able to tell you how many 260rs have been made.

yeah it's confusing hey!

Going to try and head over in october/november this year for a couple of weeks. I did say I wouldn't do the jan trip again next year, but never say never. so if you are going in jan shoot me a message and let me know where/when. :O

guys

I started this thread because I really did need some info. It seems to have been highjacked by personal chats about ads and things

If you want to chat about other topics how about pms or your own thread.

im actually starting to doubt on the figure tha i was supplied in regards on the production numbers 121 unit of 260rss. Look at jspec i think theres been at least 10 units on sale. But havent seen too much of the S2s though. i might be wrong.

From what we have been told there was over 700 S1 260rs's and only 121 S2's made..i think that would be pretty accurate dont see too many S2's 260rs out there!

These figures are about in line with my observations :

1997 cars are rare but do exist ( production started around Nov)

1998 cars are much easier to find and are available in some number

1999 cars about the same no as 1998

After that they seem to be harder to find but possibly less come up for sale because people dont sell these so much with lower mileage

Now if anyone could find these production figures it would really help me (as well as being info that would interest all Rs 260 owners )

The problem is that all Stageas were given chassis numbers in the order they were made regardless of which model .

the 260rs's even have a rb25det engine plate on the firewall as they were transplanted after they come from nissan as a rb25 car (without engine). i found this on a 260rs for sale in perth and almost assumed it was a fake, but it wasnt and now a member on here owns it.

    • So could it be assumed it has been installed intentionally with potentially a power FC boost controller kit?
    • Had my rig on Matt's dyno at PITS the other day. After a few years between tunes I added a few sensors and swapped intercoolers. Result. 553hp at 26psi. Not bad for an FJ20 that was built in 2007. The problem.. It filled the overflow bottle on hard runs which leads me to believe the head gasket isn't sealing. I have a coolant pressure sensor which was reading cap pressure at 22psi and occasionally overrunning to 23/24 psi on deceleration after a pull. It was not spiking. It has arp2000 head studs and a cometic gasket. As its been 18 years in service, I pulled the engine out and head off. Everything looks good but we obviously have an issue. Where I'm at.. Years ago I had the same issue, I checked the stud tension and they were all over the place. Some at 60 to 70 and some up near 90. I nipped them all to 100ft lbs and this stopped the water push until now. I believe this compromised the gasket back then. What do I do? 2 options are..  1) I bought arp 625+s, which I could put in with a new gasket. Thinking Kameari this time, reassemble and try again. 2) strip the block, get fire rings machined in with copper gasket and try that. I do not want to push it more than 28 to 30psi. I think the turbo will be out by then anyway. (G30-770). My other concern is the long term ability of a copper head gasket. Are they streetable for years? I feel like a new gasket with the new studs will probably suffice, but I don't know. Any thoughts welcome and advice on copper gaskets and fire rings. Thanks!
    • I'm a fan of the JZX110, and the Aristo. Big cruiser cars, and with the factory cars, super comfortable and feel like you're driving an armchair! And the JZ motors are a pretty nice engine too, especially with some basic mods.   The import process, and the need to be able to trust people, and the fact there's so many scammers around is what ever puts me off wanting to go through that ordeal!
    • I don't care for these at all, but at least the underside looks straight and not rusty. A good basis for a long life. Many cars from Japan have been lifted with forklifts and f**ked almost irrepairably.
    • Yes, but it's not dumb or dodgy. You can build a perfectly good boost controller from a pressure reg, a relief valve (looks same same as a reg if all from Norgren or SMC, for example) and a check valve. I ran one for years. Only superceded with  EBC because I could get one for cheaps and wanted finer control.   THis mod is certainly not a sketchy boost mod, provided the boost is kept below the "spin to death" threshold of the turbos.
