HI All,

Looking to buy a 33 with sunroof, i am 183cm.

Will it be a pain in the ass?

Regards Stink

THis car is coming up for auction at around 14:30 AEST

Please any sunroof owners share your thoughts with me, if you can post your height and what your experience has been with the sunroof. I would hate to pass on this car if the whole sunroof thing is not an issue, but i would be more pissed to buy it only to find that i touch it all the time and its real annoying.

Cheers Stink

but having said that, men have a taller seated height than women and shorter legs. lol its true!

in any case if you are set on a 33 you can easily put a new seat in that sits lower (as one of my mates did!)

yeah thats what i am worried about, being just under 6ft if my hair is touching it that will be annoying.

Its a shame as there is a nice car up for auction i was going to bid on but i am thinking not now because of the sunroof.

Hi Liz,

How much of a problem is putting a different seat in?

putting in a different seat is easy (I assume!).. my mate just bolted it up and it seemed to sit alot lower than the stock seats.

why don't you look in the trading post, find a r33 with a sunroof that's for sale and pretend you are interested in it.. just to check the height.

Yeah could do that but.

I live in Townsville so not that many around and less for sale

And this car i am interested in comes up for auction today, so once i get the detailed auction report back i need to make a decision on whether to bid or not.

i had to drive around with the sunroof slider opened in my old 33 so that my head didnt hit the roof. after i while i noticed i drove leaning slightly to the left to fit my head in. after that i swore id never get another car with a sunroof and im only 187cm

HI Slippery,

Thanks for the reply, would it have made a difference if you were 4cm shorter?

Cheers Stink

Whoa, liz, are you 184? that's tall for a girl. You're the same height as me.

I dunno about the sunroof car, but in my non sunroof one, there is plenty of headspace.

Regarding changing the seat - you can get any aftermarket nice japanese seat with rail for about 500 odd dollars. It's as simpe as unbolting 4 bolts and rebolting it. STraight bolt in. Sits about 1" lower.

    • Possibly avoid using a Cometic one unless the deck/head surface are perfectly flat. I did have a look just then and forgiving gaskets such as Tomei or Nitto don't exist for the FJ20, however the Bar-Tek or Kameari ones look good and might do the trick.
    • Because pipe threads for pipe things. M threads for bolt things. Throw some teflon sealant onto it and dust your hands off knowing you did the right thing, instead of going twice around the block to achieve a result using the wrong things. Of course, all of these solutions are ignoring the fact that the minimum thread pitch we're talking about here is 1.25mm, with the 1/4" in NPT or BPS being out around 1.4mm. You will need to know that the boss you're tapping has enough thickness for at least a few threads. That's one of the reasons that 1/8" is commonly used - because the pitch is <1mm. And why would you look to use 1/4" NPT in a BSP country anyway? Ugh.
    • Just throwing around ideas, does it need to be in the compressor cover? Why not the hot side piping?
    • 1/8NPT drill size = 8.7mm. Since the hole got messed up by me, it’s probably around 9mm.    So 1/4” NPT would be next step. A drill size of around 11mm would be preferred there which is not way of my M12 (drill 10.5mm and tap M12 threads)
