Ive had a quick search through google for Mercedes Compliance shops and cant really find any info...

My cousin has been driving around a pretty rare (Merc dealer told him there are only about 11 of them in the country according to the Mercedes DB) 190E AMG Cosworth. Hes just bought a Dodge Charger and wants to offload it... it doesnt have a compliance plate and was imported years ago from Honkers.

Hes selling it for 5k to my Aunty and Uncle and they want to get it road registered as its an awesome little car... can any compliance joint do it? or will it have to go to a specialised merc compliancor? Is the process any different from jap imports

when i bought my r32 gtst back in the day, i bought it from a place in chadstone called "Chapmans" near the corner of warrigal rd and dandenong rd, the actual workshop was in a side st called Neerim rd, he was an importer/mechanic/car salesman, i didn't have the best experience's with him on a personal level so just beware, i thnk the main reason was i was fairly young at the time.

anyway, he had heaps of mercs in the place, and as it was a compliance centre i doubt all of them were aus delivered.

i havent been passed for quite some time and i don't even know if their still operating, however you could try and get the number and give them a call, he should be able to answer your question.

Drools! One very very nice vehicle. Took my brother to see one of these back in the UK. Only seen one here and that was parked on Burke Rd, Camberwell a couple of years back with the plate CSWTH I think.

Oh and in answer to the ques, I think it has to be a certifed complier to ensure everything is done correctly and within the law but could be wrong.

hmmmmmmmm papers could be an issue lol

it was imported years back... its a hot car... champagne metalic... 17s... sports suspension... leather (recaros i think) interior... white dials... cosworth engine (not the turbo model.... wish... i would buy if it was as he wants 5k for it)... skirts and front and rear lip... i'll get some pics and put them up. (everything is factory)

will have to look into the whole import papers thing.

Bah - the Evo 2 was where it was at.

None of the other drug dealers would even talk to you unless you had one of these babies...

    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
    • Does that German restaurant still exist in the old place out the NW end of Goulburn? When I say "out the NW end of"...I am really being vague. It was 1997 when I was last there, and the only point of reference I can recall is that it was on the opposite side of the main drag from the big merino. And when I say "opposite side of the main drag", I don't mean "on the main drag". It was either a couple of streets back from there, or might have even been out in the sticks a bit further. Was an old farm building or mill or somesuch. And when I say "the big merino" I might actually be thinking of a completely different part of town, because I just looked on maps and the big bugger is not where I remembered him to be! The food was good, consisting largely of various German mystery-meat sausage/loaf things and kartofflen.
