Anyone know what happened with the old " final inspection" forum?

Hadn't even looked on there in years went back to try find some info on there new products and much to my surprise it appears to be no more?

Was a good source of info on their gear?

Hi gents,

I have a 1998 silver GTT that spends her life outside. Can you please recommend a sealant for her to be applied with a hand applicator? Preference for durability and cost under $100. Cheers!

Use the duragloss products I mentioned in my last post, or Nanolex if you can afford it. My paint is still fine after 3 years of sitting almost constantly in sunlight. If I wasn't lazy, I'd do paint correction with some Menzerna products, but otherwise the 105 and 601 combo combined with regular washing and semi regular Aqua Waxing does the trick.

I prefer and always used Maguires Polishes and Waxes ,

Now some will likely disagree with me but one of the very worst things anyone could do is polish with a power buffer or even by hand in circles ,
this will eventually lead to crows foot and other imperfections.

I ALWAYS polish along the line of the panel, ie Nose to windscreen front to rear along the line of the bonnet.
The Side Panels the same parallel to the ground.
The reason behind this you don't scratch the base in circles and it is much less likely to develop weird scratches and that of course creates horrid reflections and can make the car look shabby pretty quick.

Disagree with the power buffer statement too. If you use a dual action random orbital polisher for your polishing, you should end up with a swirl and scratch free paint surface, it's foolproof. Rotary polishers are the dangerous tools in the hands of the unexperienced.

Re: Bowden's Own

I've bought a few of their products just to see if they are any good and to support an Aussie business.

Seems to be on pretty much on par with the other off the shelf gear, they only used to sell at Autobarn but slightly cheaper now at Supercheap. The carwash and wheel cleaner are good, the tar remover is very good but tyre shine was pretty average. Very watery and leaked out of the bottle when I forgot to close the sprayer tip, something that never happened to any other product I've had so far.

I don't seem to have any of their products last long, just get used up pretty quickly so the value isn't quite there, plus they lag behind in some areas, like no paint correction products, or sealants/coatings. The quick detailer also smells like window cleaner (ammonia) so I'm a bit suss about the formulation.

I've only used their clay bar and car wash, which I thought were reasonably good.

I brought a whole bunch of stuff from WAXIT but somehow forgot wax/sealant, can't be bothered waiting again for delivery so I'm going to try an off the shelf product.

any recommendations?

    • @Haggerty this is your red flag. In MAP based ECU's the Manifold pressure X RPM calculation is how the engine knows it is actually...running/going through ANY load. You are confusing the term 'base map' with your base VE/Fuel table. When most people say 'base map' they mean the stock entire tune shipped with the ECU, hopefully aimed at a specific car/setup to use as a base for beginning to tune your specific car. Haltech has a lot of documentation (or at least they used to, I expect it to be better now). Read it voraciously.
    • I saw you mention this earlier and it raised a red flag, but I couldn't believe it was real. Yes, the vacuum signal should vary. It is the one and only load signal from the engine to the ECU, and it MUST vary. It is either not connected or is badly f**ked up in some way.
    • @Haggerty you still haven't answered my question.  Many things you are saying do not make sense for someone who can tune, yet I would not expect someone who cannot tune to be playing with the things in the ECU that you are.  This process would be a lot quicker to figure out if we can remove user error from the equation.
    • If as it's stalling, the fuel pressure rises, it's saying there's less vacuum in the intake manifold. This is pretty typical of an engine that is slowing down.   While typically is agree it sounds fuel related, it really sounds fuel/air mixture related. Since the whole system has been refurbished, including injectors, pump, etc, it's likely we've altered how well the system is delivering fuel. If someone before you has messed with the IACV because it needed fiddling with as the fuel system was dieing out, we need to readjust it back. Getting things back to factory spec everywhere, is what's going to help the entire system. So if it idles at 400rpm with no IACV, that needs raising. Getting factory air flow back to normal will help us get everything back in spec, and likely help chase down any other issues. Back on IACV, if the base idle (no IACV plugged in) is too far out, it's a lot harder for the ECU to control idle. The IACV duty cycle causes non linear variations in reality. When I've tuned the idle valves in the past, you need to keep it in a relatively narrow window on aftermarket ecus to stop them doing wild dances. It also means if your base idle is too low, the valve needs to open too much, and then the smallest % change ends up being a huge variation.
    • I guess one thing that might be wrong is the manifold pressure.  It is a constant -5.9 and never moves even under 100% throttle and load.  I would expect it to atleast go to 0 correct?  It's doing this with the OEM MAP as well as the ECU vacuum sensor. When trying to tune the base map under load the crosshairs only climb vertically with RPM, but always in the -5.9 column.
